Civil Disobedience And Its Impact On Society

I firmly believe that civil disobedience positively impacts a free society. For instance, look at Rosa Parks. While many people believe she sat in the white seating on a bus in protest, in reality she sat in the first row of black seating. When a white man then got onto the bus, and the white section was full, he demanded her seat. Parks refused to give up her seat since she was in the correct seating area. Although she technically broke no laws, some may argue that she had once of the most influential civil disobediences in history. On the other hand, Mahatma Gandhi’s Salt March is easily recognizable as being one of the most important civil disobediences in recent history. Gandhi was followed by many people who believed in him and stood by him through his entire cause. The Taliban refused to let girls go to school, so in protest Malala went anyway. She ended up being shot in the head on the school bus because of this. She miraculously survived the attack and went on to become the youngest person to ever win a Nobel Peace Prize in 2014.
In the past couple years the US has seen many violent protests, such as the riots that took over many major cities. While many people think violence solves problems, majority of the time it only makes matters worse. Sometimes a good cause can be tainted by violence and people forget the real reason they were fighting in the first place.
From problems as small as unfair punishment at a school to something as big as unjust rulers, civil disobedience has made an impact in everyone’s life. If it were not for brave people in this world who took a stand, like Martin Luther King Jr., or the people in the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe, who knows where the world might be
