Civil disobedience is an open act of revolt against the unjust law or government in a non-violent way. Of course, it is not always done in a non-violent way as portrayed in the movie. Alan Moore’s film V for Vendetta shows how a symbol can live on past the person and how it gives hope for the people. V who claims to provide the truth and leads a revolution is considered a terrorist for most part of the movie. The government is using fear to control the society and V who is the symbol for the oppressed uses actions to create justice in which he believes that is unjust. In V’s revolutionary speech whenever it was fixated on him the camera was at eye-level. This means V is connecting with the people and delivering them the truth through an emotional way. The people are confused to the message of “truth” and becomes curious on how to act against the unjust government in which they live in. Throughout his speech he mentions that words will always retain its power no matter how someone else wants you to perceive them. It provides truth for the beholder and safety for their own personal record. The people with power sees V as a nuisance and must be gotten rid of before he jeopardizes the government they had made. He is the embodiment of fear, hope, and truth that he gives towards not only the oppressed but the government as well. Blowing up buildings to provide a symbol towards the people and how they should unite and fight the unjust system they live in. Creating fear in the government in what they established but also creating fear into the people for not knowing the truth behind all his chaos. Providing truth to those people has created hope in revolting and creating a revolution against the people with power and how wrongly they use it. Giving an idea towards those minds and letting it grow to where they are not afraid anymore.
