The Movement for Black Lives Everyone across the globe has heard of the Black Lives Matter Movement. This movement wasn’t created to put down any other races. It was to show the government that Blacks will not stay silent while the police are gunning down innocent people. This movement has gained allies and enemies. The allies have done so much to keep this going. The enemies has done nothing but become the very thing we are taking a stand against. People must understand that this movement is too bring notice to what's been going on on and off camera. “See, “Black Lives Matter“ is trying to highlight that there is demonstrable evidence that black lives matter less than white lives to the criminal justice system (and the American government …show more content…
This major movement needs a Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. or Malcolm X. Someone that isn’t afraid to have a target on their back because of the truth that they are speaking. We wouldn't have gotten anywhere if it wasn’t for them. The leaders of the Civil Rights Movement are what we need right now. It’s easy to stand up and act together but the Movement needs a leader. The Black Lives Movement is so controversial because it is backed up by some many people. For the blacks that don’t support have found truths that swayed them away from that specific movement but the cause for this fight is all for the same reason. Blacks, and other ethnicities that have the clear vision to see the issues with the mistreatment understand. Police Brutality is everywhere and it effects all lives. This is why so many Americans are against Police …show more content…
Research on law enforcement and racial conflict” by John Wihbey and Leighton Walter Kille, provides facts on police brutality and also gives insight on the racial conflict. They talk about how the FBI Director James B. Comey stated in his February 2015 speech, “..., I asked my staff to tell me how many people shot my police were African-American in this country. I wanted to see trends. I wanted to see information. They couldn’t give it to me and it wasn’t their fault. Demographic data regarding officer-involved shootings is not consistently reported to us through our Uniform Crime Reporting Program. (Wihbey & Kille
Suspicion that a black person will always have the wrong intention and have a malicious plan when walking around a neighborhood, or whatever the case might be, is unjust and based on prejudice. As more of our black sisters and black brother’s lives are being taken away, the public begins to take this issue more seriously attemting to prevent from any more lives to be taken away by the police force, which is meant to keep us out of harm’s way and make us feel safe. Black lives matter is no longer maintained as a popular hashtag in the media, but it comes to live as a movement. Police brutality creates a black lives matter movement where our society unites to protest, regardless of economic status, religion, race, or sex.
Another factor in conflicts with this nation’s police force is the differences in races between American neighborhoods and their police force. In order to reduce the presence of racism in law enforcement, the race and ethnicities of the police force must be representative of the population they are responsible
The Black Lives Matter movement is a waste of time, money, and political effort. The article, “The Flag is Drenched With Our Blood”, is all fluff. I understand people are very very very easily offended, but please, why are we still bringing up slavery? (I can feel the hate seeping through my computer). Written like an english essay, this article fails to mention as it does in the other, “Hard Data, Hollows Protests”, how most of the violence is blacks to blacks. How the statistics are taken in the slums of beaten down parts of cities all across the US. And in regards to police brutality only on the rarest of occasions do we see the abuse of power over manipulation and false accusations of the plaintiff. Even spoken in class, we discuss how
Should one even have to have the Black lives matter movement? It’s ridiculous that the human race has separated their kind into smaller groups and making them less than others. One could argue that all lives matter. As long as they are human lives of course. The human race in itself is so so selfish that they exclude other animals. However as one can see in Brent Staples’s essay and Clint Smith’s Ted Talk, black lives have been thought of as dangerous and bad.. Kids are being told to act like adults when they’re not. It’s difficult to not see a child be just that, a child. It’s sad that humans stereotype each other based on simple rumos or just one incident. The sad part is that the young
"No one will dispute that slavery and Jim Crow were horrible and inhumane; no one will dispute that discrimination still exists, though only a delusional person would deny that America has made radical, dramatic, inspiring progress in the last 40 years.” This is very true. Even though, slavery and segregation seem very far away, it hasn’t even been a century since these events. I think that our country is in the identification phase of helping African American. You watch the news, and they often exaggerate white on black crime. For awareness, this is great, however the image you get is somewhat deceiving. People, then make the assumption that our most of our white officers are racists, and we need to help out the community. So in my opinion, some people are protesting black lives matter for the wrong reasons. Moving forward, the African American community’s transgression needs to taken into consideration heavily. Many government moves have shown great promise, but where there is a good effect being produced, there is an inverse effect happening somewhere else. The United States have created many laws and bills to make this a better country, but “seven out of ten” times, African Americans get the short end of the
Today in the United States of America, there are many different people from many different ethnic backgrounds. The Black Lives Matters movement is stirring up racial separation, rather than promoting reasonable solutions. Their dishonest anti-police views are causing police everywhere to second guess themselves.
In my research paper I will be addressing a movement known as “Black Lives Matter”. The topic of my paper will be discussing the oppression of African Americans in America. I will approach this topic by researching civil rights movements from the past that are similar to the current black lives matter movement. My research methods will include analyzing interviews from activist who participated in civil rights movement, reading articles and books for information on the topic. I will identify race issues in America between African Americans and whites. The goal of this research paper is to prove that the Black Lives Matter movement is the start of a new civil rights movement.
As a result, other organizations such as Blue Lives Matters, and All Lives Matters erupted too. The Blue Lives Matters Movement was created to protect police officers and their families. The All Lives Matters Movement was established to ensure that all lives matter and not just black lives. The argument between Black Lives Matter or All Lives Matter has been a heated discussion on social media for some time now. Indeed, all lives do matter, but the number of blacks killed from in the past five years says otherwise. Black Americans have a different experience than other races in the United States. Even though today, everyone in American are “supposedly” given the same opportunity to prosper, some hurdles are put into place for black Americans than any other race in the United States. Black Americans are more likely to get stopped by police than white Americans. Such acts as buying a house, car, or applying for a job position may be more difficult for an African American with the same credentials as a white American. People who do not understand how the Black Lives Matter Movement is an establishment to help aid the oppression of blacks without belittling other races are like that because they do not experience the “black experience” in America. Not to say that white people aren’t killed by policemen, but white Americans aren’t targeted by policemen. During the mass shooting of the church in Charleston, South Carolina committed by Dylann Roof, for example, he was labeled as “mentally ill”. When the shooting of the Sandy Hook elementary school in Connecticut happened, the shooter was also labeled as “mentally ill”. When blacks are killed wrongfully, usually a picture of an old mugshot appears as the cover face. Surveillances and voice recordings of murders of unarmed blacks on national television are displayed. Officers involved in such cases received little
It shouldn't be a race thing black, white, Hispanic, whoever; no matter what race or color cops is, they will always be the bad guys in the black's lives matter's eyes.”. As a result Black Lives Matter has promoted the generalization and hatred of a group of people; similar to what the Ku Klux Klan had done to minorities' in the past. Stereotyping and grouping people to characterized all as one, racism in itself. The same issues BLM fighting against, however they are doing on-to others. Police agencies have statistical data that show, "Despite making up just 13% of the population, African Americans committed half of the homicides in the United States for nearly 30 years." DOJ (department of justice) statistics show that between 1980 and 2008, African-Americans committed 52% of homicides. In 2013 alone, African-American criminals committed #8% of the murders in this country. By the way, Black Lives Matter may influence other racial groups to form and organize their beliefs in violent and similar ways that they have recently paved the way for. The fear already installed in every one of everybody, leads to your "Fight-or-Flight" response to eventually activate and cause complete chaos among people of all different racial, political, ethical and religious
Whether there are homicides, riots, or any other cases of destruction, America has faced problems that we need to solve. A problem that America faces is the Black Lives Matter movement. Does this movement include violence and havoc? Absolutely! Black people who assume that their lives matter instead of anyone else’s are entitled. Not all African Americans are entitled, and there are black people who know that this movement is wrong. Derryck Green, a member of the national advisory council for the National Center is qualified to speak on this subject. He agrees that black lives matter like everyone else, but he thinks it is pathetic how many African Americans turn a peaceful protest to a violent one. This movement is misguided by many citizens in this country. Do you think you
In an overview by the Conduct of Law Enforcement Agencies, they have done dozens of investigations nationwide. Their results include: “increased transparency and data collection, community-police partnerships, steps to prevent discriminatory policing, independent oversight, improved investigation and review of uses of force, more effective training and supervision of officers” (COLEA). Although this type of progress is seen, opponents like to recognize and highlight such research done by the Bureau of Justice Statistics that most crimes are committed by African-Americans. But they must understand that police officers are required and expected to submit themselves to a higher standard than the rest of society. The rules enforced by the Federal Government for police misuse of lethal force, on a bias standpoint, towards African-Americans helps police realize the reality of their
For decades black Americans have been treated as animals, looked at as if they are monsters, and killed like bugs. Actions like Police brutality and racism is what caused Black Lives Matter. The creation of the Black Lives Matter was a response by the black community to give a voice to black Americans affected by the increase of wrongful deaths due to the law enforcements and vigilantes across the country. This has been going on for so long that it seems like we are stuck in the past. For years, even decades black Americans have had to live the struggle of being equal. Even when things are going good and we think we finally have the same rights, something happened to change that. It is time to shed a light on the real purpose of Black Lives Matter and why they are important to today's society.
Black Lives Matter should not be something people are protesting against because no matter what, Black Lives do matter. We were put on this Earth for a purpose like everyone else for a purpose and I refuse to believe that purpose was to be silent and submissive about the mistreating of our people. For years during slavery and the segregated times black people were afraid to have a voice because of the simple fact that they were not allowed to. Now that we are allowed to we can and will use it. We must use it to get points across because we have learned that no one is going to do it for us but ourselves. We have the chance to do somethings out ancestors and in some cases our parents couldn't even do so I and many others feel that it is our duty
I stand here today to present you with the issue that needs to be addressed immediately: racial injustice and police brutality. America is base on the fundamental principle of equality and freedom to be individual. However, this cannot happen due to the unjust to we, the blacks. Our ancestors helped through the civil revolution, many great people- such as Abraham Lincoln, Martin Luther King, President Obama that try to create equality for people. America is a place where people of different color love and accept each other despite their differences. Throughout history, black people being treated brutality that led to the death of many innocent blacks who were killed by police officers, and we need to put a stop to this. People will always hear that their black male or female were killed by a higher authority figure; however, they still face no consequences. Most of the time the police officers that are not held accountable for the killing of unarmed black males because no criminal charges are pressed against them. There are still police officers on the street, discriminating blacks because they do not believe that blacks are equal to them. Many police officers that will kill even a young black male or female and then get a away with it. Yes, all human lives are valuable, but today I am specifically addressing the black lives matter movement. Blacks lives matter movement is important because we are addressing the white supremacy in our nation. It is an cry out for help
This nation is reeling from a series of high-profile police shootings involving people of color and racial bias is the reason police officers interact differently with whites and people of color. It is crucial to address how racist ideologies were woven into the fabric of American culture which link directly to slavery and laid the foundation for racism in this country. Racial bias plays a pivotal role and defines the differences in human behavior which vastly effects America's law enforcement communities. It is imperative to resolve the crisis and restore trust
