There has been many long term effects from the civil war in El Salvador. The war lasted about 12 years from 1980 to 1992, and El salvador is still dealing with old issues from that time. It was the darkest times in El Salvador’s history. The inequality of social classes, poverty, and military rule led Salvadorians to revolt against their own government.
At first people coming from monarchy and anti fascist groups joined the movement but the number of supporters increased exponentially in the next few years. Civil people didn’t have experience or good military strategy at the beginning so they learn how to fight at their experience with hundreds loses. They organized them forces in little armed groups spread in the countryside and woods; insurrections in the factories and surprise attacks. their main goal was catch up the national insurgent that they will achieve in a couple of year of hard, bloody work.
“The people of Nicaragua were suffering oppression. This made us develop an awareness which eventually led us to commit ourselves to the struggle against the domination of the capitalists of our country in collusion with the United States government.” (Daniel Ortega 1974) As has been discussed throughout the semester thus far many countries throughout Latin America have experienced a political revolution in some way, shape, or form. In the early 1970’s Nicaragua joined the long list of Latin American countries to experience a revolution when the Frente Sandinista de Liberacion Nacional (FSLN) lead by Daniel Ortega successfully overthrew the Somoza dynasty. Many people often times have a misconception of what exactly a political revolution
My dad was born in the small Central American nation of El Salvador, more specifically in Anamoros located on the east side of the country. He lived in the countryside so he often played with their animals, spent most of his childhood swimming in the rivers or playing soccer with his friends, and would frequently hang out with his grandparents in the afternoons. In 1980, when he was about 12 years old that all began to change, he and all those around him needed to be more cautious about their surroundings.
El Salvador is a small, Central American, Hispanic speaking country, which borders with Honduras, Guatemala and the Pacific Ocean and has currently a population of 6.4 million. In the late 1880s coffee was the major export product and it became 95% of the country’s income. This wealth although was unequally distributed and as a result it was concentrated only on the 2% of the population.
The history of El Salvador begins with the time period in which indigenous peoples resided in the country. According to Roy Poland, in Culture and Customs of El Salvador, El Salvador was conquered by the Spanish in 1524; the spanish found the country was divided into three states (13). The spaniards hegemonic influence finally converted El Salvador into a Spanish colony after twenty six years of indigenous resistance(Poland 14). Such conquest brought violence, diseases, and poverty to the indigenous people. The invasion of El Salvador by the Spanish also resulted in mestizaje, racial mixing. The colonial period lasted until 1821(Poland 14). El Salvador finally became independent from Spain in 1821 and joined the United Provinces of Central America in 1823; however, in 1840 El Salvador gained full independence (Eileen Garron Batres 6), One of the most important crops in El Salvador during the 1800’s and 1900’s was coffee; during the 1900’s El Salvador was the third largest coffee producer internationally (Susan B. Hecht).
From 1979-1992, a civil war took place, pitting the lower class, El Salvadorian people against their own government to fight for their new opportunities. In order to help the people of El Salvador create these opportunities for themselves, the US troops went in and trained the common people how to fight and how to use the kind of weapons that our military uses. In the middle of the war we left the people to use the training witch we thought they we use to fight against their economy but when the war ended, the people of El Salvador were left with the skill taught by the best military in the world, violence and war. This left them with many conditions that lead to gang violence.
On the other hand, it has also made me less of the selfish person who I was before into an increasingly caring person. For an example, I put people before myself now because in El Salvador the people go beyond for their loved ones and friends. They go home with very little and still manage to have something and be happy. I do not hesitate to help more as well. When I had seen how much the kids do for their parents, I realized on how lazy and ungrateful I was to my mother. It made me want to get a job and help my mom with bills, which I did so exactly. Years later, what I have done to help the people out there is sending a huge box full of anything my family and I did not need every six months and filling it up with as much as we could.
As a result in war that affected El Salvador,Guatemala and Nicaragua, refugees moved northward. Many of them ended in Los Angeles, living next to gang rivals such a gang called Barrios of East Los Angeles. While the Mexican gangs continued to live in the in the local underworld, as the war-hardened immigrants quickly organized themselves forced to join group to survive knowing it’s the only way to survive , but the strongest of which was Mara Salvatrucha 13.
The Latin American revolution did not fulfill the goals of the revolution. Although they gained independence from Spain, the social construct did not change. This is the opposite of the Haitian Revolution. In Haiti, the slaves fought against slavery in many violent protest including burning of plantations. Ultimately, the whole social construct reversed from French officials and les grands blancs on top and the slaves on the bottom to les grands blancs not being a part of society and the slaves on top. In the long run, the large plantations supported the whole economy of Haiti and once slavery was abolished, the small farms did not come close to the same profit. In this way, the economical impact of the revolution was not successful, but the
Revolution started to take over the world. The French Revolution started to happen, and ideas of enlightens started to spread. Latin America’s Spanish King was just removed, and the Creole generals started to lead wars of independence. Now was the time to begin a Revolution. The uneven distribution of resources lead to conflict and Revolution in Latin America by geographic luck, advanced weapons, and unfair social class.
The Civil War in Nicaragua was one of the defining events from the 1980s, and it also happened to be a defining event in my personal life and that of my family. The argument in question was over the nature of the revolution in Nicaragua, and the political motivations of the Sandinistas. I said that the situation in my home country is not as black-and-white as it has been presented in the media. I believe the situation that gave rise to this argument is rooted in a lack of accurate media coverage. Because I am from a Nicaraguan background, but also have one American parent, I can present a unique perspective that illuminates both sides of the argument to show that neither the Sandinistas nor the Americans had the best interests of Nicaragua at heart.
Salvador Perez or Stephen Curry? Take your pick because they are both good athletes. However, they play different sports. The two athletes play in professional leagues. Salvador Perez plays baseball while Stephen Curry plays basketball.
The Civil War was a major event in our nation’s history that would affect the country for years to come. Both good and bad came from the political, social, and economic reforms that would fall upon the United States in this aftermath. This paper will detail how constitutional amendments, Jim Crow laws, and Scalawags and Carpetbaggers were lasting effects of the Civil War.
When a revolution begins, there is always a cause behind it and most of time it 's the government 's unfair treatment to its citizens. Inequality can come in many different types, such as
