Claiming Versus Receiving An Education

Some teachers have up to 30 plus students per class and up to 6 or more classes each day. This can pose a challenge with the teachers on how effectively they can work with students on a one-on-one level. Unfortunately, a situation can also arise in which the teacher does not necessarily bother with teaching students and are not bothered if they begin to fall behind.

As a high school student, I am dismayed to say that I believe much of my time has been wasted fulfilling the demands of classes that were not valuable to me. I believe it would be smart to acknowledge that students may sometimes have preexisting knowledge that is adequate for a subject and that they should be allowed to “Test Out.” All schools have required classes that any student who want to graduate must pass. I have spent countless hours filling out papers and doing busy work, all of that being time that I could’ve used to pursue my personal interests or god forbid, get some sleep. I understand that this is not the usual case but I think many of my classmates would agree that they have experienced at least one class in which they didn’t learn enough to justify an entire semester or year of sitting in a desk.

My Plans are to attend Our lady of the Lake University, I chose this college because I like that they have small classes so it allows me to interact more with the professors, that they are a private school, and most importantly because it very convenient for me I do not have to relocate to another city because I live nearby. If a student knows what level their paper or assignment has to be at, they might not perform to the best of their ability. A student may just turn in what will get them a reward and not push themselves. School is about going outside of your comfort zone so you know what you are capable of. If a student just does the bare minimum, they may never know what else they are able to do.

In a transitional setting, a university will have instructors who will lecture all semester long and have you complete two tests; one mid-term and a final exam. As well as have a set time and place for the aforementioned lecture to take place. In some universities attendance is not a requirement. They want you to pass the test in the middle and at the end of the year. You could be in a class with as many as two-hundred plus people which makes it almost impossible for the instructor to reach out to students who are having a hard time.

B. Day 1: The subject look very disinterested at class. While the teacher was discussing about the code of conduct in class regarding cell phones the subject was on her smartphone. The teacher made us repeat the words to our classmates. She sat there and still proceeded to look at her phone. She doesn’t seem to be interested of the class. Day 2: Mr. teacher gives the students the first 5 minutes of class to write in their journals. The teacher also gives the students prompts on the board if they don’t know what they want to write. What is the difference between claim and receive? Rich writes “One of the dictionary definitions of the verb “to claim” is to take as the rightful owner; to assert in the face of possible contradiction. “To receive” is to come into possession of; to act as receptacle or container for; to accept as authoritative or true” (23).
