1. In definition, a risk factor is circumstances that coincidingly increase the conditions and opportunities that increase juvenile involvement in a crime. While preventative factor decreases the opportunities and circumstances for juveniles to be involved in or commit crimes. a. risk factor preventive factor Risk and preventative factor are two ends of a spectrum when it comes to common themes of juvenile routine activities, ranging from the institutions they are intrusted to, and their guardianship in public and private spheres of influence. These are combined and extrapolated by individual risk factors (Wasserman, et al.), which can be less fixed or determinate when compared with more spectrum and controllable environmental determinants. 2. Of the weekly readings, the one pertaining to British labeling theory was the one I found the most interesting. The historical use of the word "hooligan" was key in my opinion of cementing the cultural and internal labeling that is the basis of the classical labeling theory developed by Tannenbaum’s dramatization of evil. Where in the community, Victorian elite, as a need to create "moral panic" and place the community against the criminals in the 1800's to modern day. I'm aware of labeling, most criminological in fact, being cross-cultural but it's strange for me to think of labeling being a problem in another country as structure as Britain. The reason for this personal discrepancy is due to how labeling has developed differently in culture and in language. Hooligan is a mostly outdated or seldom used word in the American English vocabulary and only for specific type of juvenile, not all. It's more common culturally in the US to use the descriptor delinquent which is more in tune with the terminology of the Juvenile Justice
