The instructional setting is in an 8th grade class at Wasatch Jr. High. Wasatch Jr. High is located in Salt Lake City, Utah in an affluent neighborhood on east side of the city. Wasatch Jr. High is a part of the Granite School District. Wasatch Jr. High attracts students from all over the valley and is a very high achieving school. The student population is 85% Caucasian, 8% Asian, and 5% Hispanic (Granite School District, 2015). The 8th grade class is made up of 51 students. There are seven special education students in this class and no English language learner students in this class. The seven special education students will require more time on assignments and some individual attention from me to help them complete their tasks.
This week I did both an interview and a small observation of my third grade host teacher's classroom. I was first able to interview my host teacher. Miss A does use many of the techniques for teaching words that were listed on my observation form. Specifically she uses crossword puzzles, dramatizing, word sorts, possible sentences and dictionaries. She also uses many techniques that are not listed on the observation sheet as well. She does a lot of repetition with her students. She has them right there words in rainbow colors, in vowels and consonants colors, in alphabetical order and many more that I didn't see. Miss a believes that " they are all useful for different students. Some students feel like crosswords are helpful and others feel like pictures are helpful" () I would completely agree with her statement in this regard. I do think it's good to have many different options for the many different students you have in your class. Miss a believed that there were a lot of benefits to wide reading. She make sure that the children are provided with a variety of texts especially her students who are ELL students. She mention specifically that it "helps build their schema for Content areas such as social studies and science and the vocabulary that goes with that."()
On Thursday, November 3, 2016, at approximately 10:51AM, I, Officer Larry Thomas was dispatched to Hooper, right at the bus stop, in reference to two males fighting.
This officer was traveling north in the 700 block of N Broad St and smelled a
During the experiment of boys, I observed three men in the 20s who were talking about homework last weekend. During this experiment, A was on his computer talking about finances. B and C were locked into their computers without looking at A. The connection between the men seemed disengaged, as the DVD described. Most of what Deborah Tannan found is that the boys would sit at an angle. However, the participants had a couch, sitting besides each other. When they watch a movie, they would still talk and listen to each other, but would look at each other rarely at times. It lasted for a few minutes because they went to go eat together. In summary, they talked about sports and compared their teams over each other.
My partner and I had a lot of fun with the sensory activity that we planned and it went very well. The kids at KITE also really enjoyed it. We had several sensory bins with different colors and textures, and then allowed the kids to make their own bag with objects hidden in it to take home. One of our sensory bins was filled with black sand mixed with glitter and it seemed to be the favorite for most of the participants. A key concept that was reinforced through the experience of running our station was the importance of grading an activity up or down to create the “just right challenge.” We made sure to have several options available to increase or decrease the difficulty of making their own sensory bag so they would be engaged during the
For one week, I observed my roommate doing his regular activities. In respect for my roommate, I will not use his real name, I will call him Tom in this essay. Tom is a Hispanic video gamer, he works part time helping his friends run a doggy day care. If he is not at work, he is at home playing video games all day long. He did attend community college in Portland, Oregon has very little education. Tom wants to obtain a degree, but he feels he is old and disable with back injuries. He is the age of 37. Tom is single and never married. As I talk a little more of my roommate, he loves his video games. It seems like gaming is his happiness.
During my morning at Gray-New Gloucester Middle School, I sat in on a wonderful special education classroom. I started my observation at 7:15am which was great because I was able to observe the students coming into school and see how they settle in and see their morning routines. The students came in and put their bags away and got out their folders and pencils and sat down at their assigned table. Each student ate their breakfast along with working on their morning work. Their morning work was a worksheet having to do with subtracting money and working with decimals. While working on their morning work each student was very calm. I was able to talk with the teacher a little bit before class and she explains to me that the students in her class either have autism or an intellectual disability. While we waited for the bell to ring their was one little girl who took an interest in talking with me. She was showing me her stuffed animal and telling me his name and what they like to do together. It’s really great having the students interact with you even if its just as simple as that.
During the number talk students shared freely about the fraction strip. They shared how the denominator number gets larger but the size of the parts gets smaller. They were able to explain this. When asked to find fractions that were equal in size but had different parts, they wanted to use different sizes together such as ½ equals ¼, 1/8 and 1/8. We had to prompt, are all the parts the same, how could we make them the same.
During my observations in week eight on March 1st at two fifteen in the afternoon, the teacher called on John to read an excerpt from the reading and John was having trouble pronouncing words. Students began to laugh and read any word he mispronounced, the teacher then read louder than John causing John to stop reading and the teacher finishing the excerpt. This opportunity would have been great for John to practice reading vocabulary words he often has trouble understanding and pronouncing. The second goal for John’s guide to progress would be to give him the opportunity to speak out loud and exercise his public speaking skills. Silvia Rico states, “Talk to the students in the classroom about how students have different learning experiences/styles
For the last week I have been observing the behaviors and patterns of a fellow ACPHS classmate. The person that I have chosen to observe is also a freshman. He is the roommate of a friend so I see him a lot, but haven’t had the chance to communicate with him besides a hi/hello here and there. There are two major things that I have noticed in his behavior and patterns.
Observing Mr. Bradbury class showed me the foundation tools of what is needed to be a successful teacher. The sport that I observed in Mr. Bradbury’s class was Badminton. Mr. Bradbury connected student’s prior knowledge by relating the paddle they use in badminton to the paddle they used in pickle ball when they used it freshman year. This correlation would help students get a better understanding how to hit with a badminton paddle. Mr. Bradbury emphasized on having a high success rate in his class. So, the first task he assigned was to stand in general space and connect the birdie(ball) with the racquet without hitting it. this introduces the motion students will use to hit the birdie. He asked the students to practice doing this five times. Once the students finished
The objective of my survey is to examine different ways add different flavors that would attract a more variety of age groups Cardon, P. 2013). As a whole, I would like to attract customers of all income levels. I would especially like to add a different topping that would attract the younger group (Cardon, P. 2013).
Participants (n=8) were all females ages 19 to 22 in all years of college. They were randomly recruited from a psychology class at Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana. Every person in the class made an experiment and had 8 other random people from the class participate in their experiment.
A major part of the college social scene is revolved around alcohol use, drinking, partying and going out. That is why bars particularly have become a popular attraction for college students to migrate to after a long week of classes. Stress from the syllabi and the eagerness to socialize are factors in the motivation getting college students out and about. My curiosity as a college student myself, has led me to study other college students’ behavior when they go to bars and “distress” from arduous schoolwork. In my research, I observe and compare how students behave in a bar setting in two different locations: West Hartford, Connecticut and Charleston, South Carolina.
Over Fall break, I made arrangements with an old teacher of mine to visit him and observe his classroom. This teacher is Mr. Cianciotta and has made a huge impact on my life. Mr. C was my chemistry teacher sophomore year of high school, my physics teacher junior year, and my AP chemistry teacher senior year. Having him be my teacher for 3 years really influenced our bond. He was by far the most loved teacher in my high school, and really put in the extra effort to help us students. Since I have graduated, Mr. C got a job in a different high school, one that I am very familiar with because a lot of family attended this school. I contacted him a few weeks prior to coming home and he told me he would let me observe his classroom with no problem at all.
