Classroom Scenario Analysis Patricia Hough ELL240: Linguistically & Culturally Diverse Learners (ACV1524A) Professor Catherine Tapia July 13, 2015 Classroom Scenario Analysis As educators, we are responsible in providing quality education and learning strategies that will help English language learners (ELLs) develop and progress in both academic and social skills. Ell students face many challenges that include social abilities, interactions with others, and participating during lessons and academics prove to be very challenging. Unfortunately, this increases anxiety levels, which results in high effective levels for Ell students, which leave them feeling, lost in their efforts to express themselves, which increases their feelings of not belonging and the fear of being misunderstood. As educators, it is imperative that we put in the time and effort to understand where our students come from and that all students learn differently, obtain information differently, and progress at different paces. Our responsibility is to understand the different strategies and techniques that can help Ell students gain the confidence in learning, speaking, and understanding the English language. Throughout this paper, I will be identifying the many strategies present in the ‘Classroom Scenario’ from the Pathways to teaching series: Practical strategies for teaching English language learners.
