In the film of Claudine though they are many issue that was presented in the film the one which stood out the most are the following:
• A single mother struggling to raise her 6 children as she battles the unfair welfares system. As I apply the General Intervention Model these are the steps that as a social worker, I will do:
Engagement: As a social worker working with Claudine I would first introduce myself, my department and role in her case. I would also reassure her that I will provide a safe environment in which she will be able to speak with me without being fearful.
Assessment: In Claudine’s situation, I would try to gain useful information so that I will be able to assess the situation. I would like to know about the ages of her

I will work on setting up support groups for her in which she can relate to mothers who are single and battling the welfare system. I will also plan on getting her other resources in stress management.
Implementation: I will make sure the plan is in place and working effectively for Claudine. This will be done by checking in with her and monitoring her process.
Evaluation: At this stage, as a social worker, I will make sure that Claudine is follows the steps that she has to take to improve her situation.
Termination: In this stage, as a social worker, I will bring to Claudine attention a natural contract, and list the reason for us to terminate since she is following the step such as attending the support groups as she learns a different approach to reduce the stress level for her family and the demands of being a single mother.
Follow-up: As the social worker this will be done with Claudine to make sure she is improving and doing well with her

Assessment: In Claudine’s situation, I would try to gain useful information so that I will be able to assess the situation. I would like to know about the ages of her children, if they are in school, the grades they are receiving and how involved she is in their life. I would also want to know about her health, stress levels and what is her coping mechanism for caring for the 6 children. Also what other support that she received whether it is from family or friends.
Planning: As a social worker, I would come up with a plan based on the issue. I will work on setting up support groups for her in which she can relate to mothers who are single and battling the welfare system. I will also plan on getting her other resources in stress management.

CPSW did a home visit to meet with Ms. Berner and to discuss about her safety plan since the children are moving with her on10/29/16 from the foster provider. Ms. Berner was late for her appointment and CPSW waited a 40 minutes for Ms. Berner. Ms. Berner apologized for being late. CPSW explained Ms. About safety plan. Ms. Berner understood and she signed them. Ms. Berner stated that she will be doing a house arrest for two weeks and the recommendation of her criminal court is to obey law and continue taking her medication on time and seeing her therapist. Also, cooperating with her PO and CPSW. CPSW consulted with the supervisor and she has approved both children to move back with Ms. Berner. Goal 1-2
4. describe actions to take where any concerns with the agreed care plan are noted
In conclusion to Belinda has been facing many problems in her life. There are ways to help her overcome her problems. It will take time but it’s not impossible. She needs to remain focused throughout the treatment plan and willing to be committed to it. The main priority is to provide enough support and help for her and her unborn child. Than following up with making her stronger as a person and capable of taking care of herself. Her family can be involved and by
Through interviews with welfare workers and recipients, Hays demonstrates the high costs welfare has had on the moral, economic, physical and mental well-being of poor women and their children due to what she considers to be the conflict between the two opposing aspects of reform: work values and family values. She believes that these conflicting values and the inherent weaknesses in the Act contribute to serious and ongoing problems for welfare recipients.
During an initial assessment an individual’s ability and communication methods are established. This is done when an individual arrives into care. Everyone involved in the care of this service user is made aware of their needs and preferences regarding communication and any changes are recognised during reviews and shared with the team to ensure the individual’s needs are met.
Right now, LaJoe is on section 8 I have no knowledge if she works or not. If she does, LaJoe is not making enough money to support herself and her children without government assistance. The first step in helping the family moving out of poverty is finding out if LaJoe graduated from High school or have a GED. If she does not have either, I will start planning for her to take GED classes, then eventually taking the test for her GED. After getting her GED, I would have her go to training that helps her build skills for the work field. For instance, the training will provide individuals with basic computer skills, resume building, professionalism, professional attire, etc. From that point on or while is in training, I would have her started applying for jobs. Once she has a job, I would have her start looking for locations to
Discussed at weekly social meeting, it was discussed how Jack was doing and the parental involvement. Mum was not engaging with the nurses, she showing very little interested in getting involved in Jack’s care. Social worker to get in contact with the named social worker t discuss where they are in the process of taking over care, and weather they found suitable foster care
As the family seemed to move from place to place their last though would be to set their children in school. With the help of a social worker, one would be able to help make the transfer of a child’s documents from one school to another smooth. This type of work for a social worker who works in the public school education field. Another basic need the parents did not provide was emotional support. With the help of a social worker a child could be provided a counselor, which can help the child relive some stress or whatever barrier that seems to bother them.
The number one priority for this family would be to create some type of income. Jane Smith, the mother, is currently unemployed and did not work long enough to receive unemployment. She has two small children, but she receives no child support from their father. The program TANF (Temporary Assistance for Needy Families) distributes cash assistance to needy families. The amounts awarded range from two hundred dollars to nine hundred dollars based on the size of your family and the state you live in. At this point, any amount of income would be great for this family. Jane could possibly use this money to find a stable housing.
It is important to discuss the history of the emergence of this social problem. I will discuss the essence of poverty as a social problem and how that has affected how welfare is distributed among single mothers. Some factors that contributed to this social problem are the economy and he increasing amount of people who lived in poverty. The government felt that it was necessary to be proactive about the growing issue of poverty. The government was also taking a look at how money was being spent and how that contributed to the nation’s debt. As a result some policies were put into place to address those issues. Many programs were on a trial and error period to determine the success rate of that program. If the social program had expenses that seemed to add to the deficit then those programs were either revamped or eliminated. It is important to examine how Welfare has changed from the Colonial period to present.
The purpose of my role was to make an assessment, having had a brief induction of the assessment process used by my link worker; the preferred models used in this service were the ‘questioning model’ and the ‘procedural models’. Research published in 1993 by (Smale et al), identifies three different models of assessment, the ‘questioning’, the ‘procedural’ and the ‘exchange’. These models are still seen as the main models of assessment in social care. Although I initially mirrored my link workers technique, the ‘questioning’ and ‘procedural’, models, my analysis was that this model generally reflects the workers and agencies agenda. However on reflection my critical analysis reflexivity the third domain of critical practice advocated by (Glaister
Alice needed an assessment of her needs and to have a care plan that is regularly reviewed by professionals. Assessment is the decision making process, based upon the collection of relevant information, using a format set of ethical criteria, that contributes to an overall estimation of a person and her circumstances (Barker, 2004). I was going to get most of the information from Alice. Barker (2009) suggests that wherever possible information should be obtained directly from the person, either in the form of some kind of self report or via observation. Good communication and a systematic approach to data collection are needed for a successful assessment.
Intervention using this model can include, at a minimum, social support and education groups for single mothers or groups that focus on improving financial situations for mothers in poverty. Each group focus is on a different struggle that influence everyday living for single mothers in poverty.
Second goal: Patient, assisted by the social worker (MSW), will be able to identify, communicate by phone and utilize in her favor the community resources to obtain more information and/or support with the cost of her medication cost before her next doctor appointment, in three weeks.
For this end of module assessment I will be looking at the case study of Safia Nazir, her husband Nazir Rashid and their 3 children Taqi, Asif and Amina who live in Scotland and have been bought to the attention of social services for various reasons. I will be demonstrating my understanding of what the social workers role would be in relation to this family, including the skills and knowledge needed to meet the family’s individual needs. The social worker in this case study is called Shona and what I have read of her and her initial steps to work with the family come across as appropriate and professional. I will go into more detail about Shona’s work and my understanding of her role later in the assignment and make potential comparisons or reflect on what I may or may not do differently. I will consider issues in relation to my personal and professional values and will also refer to policy and practice from English legislation; as this is my country of practice. I will be focusing on early intervention and the initial steps in social work, such as making contact, meeting and the initial assessment.
