When I watch the iconic Clemson "Moments" video, chills rush through my body and goosebumps rise. That could be me next year; experiencing those moments. Touring the campus in February, I got that moment. It is the one that every high school senior has no words to describe when they have the realization they have found their new home for the next chapter of their lives. I am by no means a crier, but I teared up on my Clemson tour thinking I have found the place that is the fit for me. I can fit in here I thought to myself. No more little Winchester, this is exactly where I want to be and exactly where I belong. It is one of weirdest, yet most exciting feelings that I could be a Clemson Tiger; spending four years through rigorous work and research
From before day one, all our minds were set. This was the year to win a State Championship. I can’t exactly explain it, but right from the start I knew we were going to do it. I was never so sure about anything in my life and I never doubted it once.
We’ve all had that time in our life that we were ready to give up, or quit because we didn’t care about anything anymore. Life seemed like it was getting to tough and nothing right was happening. This happened to me one time in particular that I can remember. In my senior year of football I had came across an injury in my knee. I had torn my meniscus in my left knee. It was one of the worst pains I had experienced in my life. I thought my final season was over. After learning from the doctor that I could still play but I would have to endure the pain when I played. While we’re in high school we start to get in these situations and have these sorts of feeling such as giving up and not caring what happens to us but that is not the answer to
Cold harsh winds in the air on the day of that 11th day in April 2002 in Roslyn, New York. Besides the awful weather, I was born that day. My life contains of my wonderful family with all my brothers, parents, and even my dogs. I also like to do my hobbies which consist of golf, fishing, and the racetrack. The 3rd thing that is very close to me is my New York football Giants. My exceptional family, my hobbies, and the New York Giants all explain my life.
My freshman year we entered playoffs with a hopeful optimism that in our first year in 3A, the largest division, we could make a statement that we were here to stay. In the end, the game didn’t go our way. There were some questionable calls made but in the end, it is what it is: we weren’t good enough to win. A tough reality but often times you learn more from a loss than from a win. Sophomore
You don't hear everyday a high school team winning state championships that often, but at Archbishop Wood it's sort of common. I proudly can say I am one of the few that has not one, but two state championship rings under my belt. As a sophomore AND a junior in high school, my basketball team accomplished being State Champions two years in a row. The first year we won was one of the best experiences of being apart of a team. After losing in the state championship the year before, we knew we had to somehow get back the next year and make sure we'd come out with the trophy. As the new season began in November of 2016, we played in the Nike tournament of champions in Arizona. The trip was one of the most memorable trips ever with the best group of girls. We had a blast,
Tidewater Titans baseball team was at its highest peak and we had been unstoppable. Coach Derrick, Coach Tony, Coach Perry, and Coach Darren had all led the team to multiple championships that year. Ever since the beginning, there had always been a problem with Coach Derrick. He had always thought his kid, Grayson was better than the rest. Grayson had taken my position at shortstop in my batting position and the line up. I was left to second base the second less likely place the ball could get hit too.
The day College of Faith football team played, Missouri S&T was in the fall of 2015, it was cold. At the time me and my brothers on the football team came off a big lost to the Cougars of St. Francis. The St.Francis Cougars Are located in Fort Wayne, Texas. They are a very big school, the cougars were undefeated the whole year round. After the 65-0 lost to the cougars, we the College of Faith, had a game against Missouri S&T. I felt like a raging superstar on field, I had 8 tackles, 1 big blindside sack and 1 pass deflect, it was very cool and also sunny. Unfortunately, we got demolish, the whole team quit.We lost 64-0 Football taught me to value my life more and be more ongoing to learn new things.
Before coming to UGA, I was a huge LSU fan. My mother went to LSU, so I was exposed to LSU football at an early age. I loved watching LSU football on Saturdays, and still do. I would spend most of my Saturdays during the fall on the couch with my dad and brother watching LSU play. I remember how nervous I was for the 2008 BCS National Championship between LSU and Ohio State. That night was one of my most memorable nights. With my love of LSU football, I felt as if I could never learn to like another team.
It was week 8 and the Panthers (white) had recently lost to the Panthers (red). Thus, that was the worst season that the Panthers (white) had had in the past 3 seasons. Meanwhile, we did not have a game in week 9, so the coaches, Klinger and Howell, made us practice from 5 PM to 8 PM Monday through Friday. In practice, one day we found out that we were going to play the Dragons. Consequently, we all knew we had to win or we would be the only team that had not won a game by week 10. Coaches Klinger and Howell trained the defense against the offense constantly. Finally, the defense could anticipate the quarterback’s decisions and the offensive line would protect the quarterback long enough for him to throw the ball to a wide receiver. In summary, the coaches knew we were ready to defeat the Dragons.
A week before the second district game and my family and I were eating at five guys at Tiffany Springs. We had just sat down with our food when a guy came in that was dressed in his 2017 senior hoodie and sweatpants. He was waiting for his food when I got up to refill my drink, He asked if I went to Smithville because he saw I was wearing a smithville sweatshirt.
When I walk around the University of Georgia campus, I feel that I have found home. In such a short time UGA has impacted my mindset and goals. UGA is a place I feel inspired to grow, learn and build relationships. A year ago if you would have told me I would find a place that feels more at home than anywhere I’ve lived, I would not have believed you. The past year of my life before getting accepted into UGA was one of the most difficult years of my life. I had left some toxic relationships, experienced health scares and was lost in where I wanted to go for school. I applied to several Universities, received acceptance letters, but none of the acceptance letters made me excited. UGA was the last application I was waiting to hear back from
. The kansas Jayhawks are way better at basketball than football. My favorite play for them right now would be Frank Mason the Third. He is their point guard. On football for KU i don't really have a favorite player i don’t really watch college football. In NFL my favorite team in the New Orleans Saints. My favorite player for them would be either Mark Ingram or Jimmy Graham. For soccer I don't have a favorite because i don’t watch it. In hockey my favorite team is The Pittsburgh Penguins. My favorite baseball team is the New York Yankees.
It was great talking with you. I always enjoy meeting someone from SC. Plus you are a Gamecock fan like myself. I went to the A&M game last year when they came to town. Hopefully this season is better than the last one.
Another divisional matchup, another chance to turn our season around, another loss! I am afraid we can now officially kiss this season good bye, especially since Winston has not been playing well at all and is now out for a couple of games because of his shoulder injury.
I would like to share a short anecdote about an amusing incident that happened to me. Two years ago, I was selected to officiate at my first Georgia State Cup, a large soccer tournament held over Memorial Day weekend with teams competing from all across the state. The four-day tournament was held at a university in Columbus, GA. For the referee crews, it means long days officiating many games with few breaks. Typically, evenings are relaxing, however, as all the referees stay in the same dorm together, sharing humorous stories and building camaraderie.
