Defining climate change is crucial in the process of building agreements among scientists, policy makers and the public. The UNFCCC defines climate change as a significant change in global climate patterns caused by the alteration of earth’s atmosphere due to high carbon emissions. Climate change is a timely, controversial and significant topic. Global temperature has been increasing since the start of the Industrial Revolution and climate specialists have put forth an array of compelling evidence to prove the actuality of climate change. Climate change is already a threat to our planet’s population and economy; it is an issue that requires effective and long-lasting action. Our government has a responsibility to reduce carbon emissions through large-scale technological investments as we transition to a low-carbon economy. Carbon capture storage has proven to be an effective method of improving air quality during this transition while minimizing economic impacts. DEFINING THE PROBLEM Following the Industrial Revolution in the early 1800s, carbon dioxide levels began rising with the increased burning of fossil fuels. Carbon dioxide is considered a greenhouse gas, which traps solar radiation inside of the atmosphere. The natural greenhouse effect keeps our planet from freezing over. However, increase concentration of human-generated greenhouse gases such as carbon dioxide, methane and nitrous oxide are now the major force driving climate change causing a 1.4°C increase in
