“There are many different views on climate change, and how people view it. Climate change is a debated topic by many different researchers and scientists. Some people think we are causing it, some people think modern technology is causing it, and some people think that it isn’t even happening at all. Creationists don’t deny climate change, but what they do deny is, The worldview-based assumptions that determine secular scientists’ interpretations and conclusions about the evidence” (Foley, Avery. “Science Confirms Climate Change!”). As Christians we need to use the earth in ways that benefit humans because we have been given dominion over the earth. “The Lord God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it and keep it.” (New International …show more content…
The issue with climate change is between Christians, and people who believe humans are the problem of why climate change is happening, and getting worse. Although Christians know that God is making climate change happen for a reason, there is still an affect on the way humans take care of the earth. Numbers 35:33 says, “You shall not pollute the land in which you live, for blood pollutes the land, and no atonement can be made for the land for the blood that is shed in it, except by the blood of the one who shed it” (New International Version). Man (Secularists) say that earth has been here for billions of years, and the Earth’s temperature has been stable for over ten-thousand years. Now that observational science shows that Earth’s climate is now changing, secularists assume that human activity must be the cause of this change in temperature. But, these models are unprovable assumptions about Earth’s history. Methods such as the tree ring and ice core dating that are used to give these stable temperature readings are also unprovable assumptions” (Foley, Avery. “Science Confirms Climate Change!”). “Now, according to God’s word, we get a very different picture of Earth’s history. The Bible says that the earth is not billions of years old, but rather only six-thousand years old. Originally, there was a perfect creation where there was a “perfect climate”. This climate was …show more content…
We cannot do anything that drastic to the earth because it is not ours to do. Of course, helping keep the earth cleaner, and healthier will help climate change, but nothing is going to stop climate change if it gets out of control. We have been given dominion over earth, but proper stewardship of what God gave us means that we need to take care of the earth. But, we should never care more for the earth over the people who inhabit the earth. God cares about nature but cares far more about people. So, as christians, we need to start with God’s word, not man’s word, when it comes to Earth’s history. God was there from the very beginning and since he does not lie, we know that the record he has given us in His word is the truth about Earth’s history” (Foley, Avery. “Science Confirms Climate
Do you want your child to have a higher risk of skin cancer or other terrible diseases? Do you want your child to never be able to play outside with all their friends? Nobody wants their child to have an unhealthy life or be sad because they have no friends to play with. Everyone wants to hope for their child to have a happy and healthy life. Humans not thinking about how the world’s climate change is dramatically changing does not make the climate not change. There are many scientist that have proven that climate change is happening and it has been happening for many, many years. Understanding what is happening
Unlike other problems in America; abortion, gay marriage, etc. climate change has a strong scientific consensus about the need for action. One can make a good case that abortion is good or bad. But can’t argue that based on the evidence, climate change is not happening. And just because most climate scientists believe that climate change is happening, does not mean that that any certain policy is the “right”
Beginning with Mark Hendrickson’s argument, he recognizes that the climate is changing. He wrote in his article “Climate Change-Hoax or Crime of the Century” that the Earth has emerged from a Little Ice Age not that long ago, and it would be worrisome if the climate around the globe was not warming
Just the fact that the Pope has ignored the warnings of Catholic presidential candidates and is trying to fight climate change is monumental. Global warming is a global issue. No matter what religion or ethnicity global warming will affect everyone. Earth is the only known planet capable of supporting life. How embarrassing will it be for our generation if we wipe out life because of our ignorance. Earth has a marvelous ability to rebuild and return to a healthy state. After each of the five mass extinction events Earth was resilient enough to survive and so did life. After the most notorious, the Permian Mass Extinction, less than 4% of life survived. Miraculously Earth rebuilt its ecosystems and was able to sustain life. The causes of the
David Jenkins, a Christian Science writer, believes that God created planet Earth with a climate plan in mind. He references from the Bible to support his claims. Jenkins has a thought that just because God made something does not mean it was meant to be used up by man, but maybe to remain where it was originally placed. He explains that the high use of coal by people seems to be what is causing the increase in global temperatures and we need to reduce our need for fossil fuels by finding better alternatives to energy. Jenkins acknowledges that other parts of life are also being affected by such high temperatures like food shortages and water droughts. He believes that religion and nature go hand in hand to make the world work. Mr. Jenkins believes we need to respect God’s design for our planet and take into consideration how it was intended to be treated.
This article presents worrying examples in ecological ideas regarding the problems of social justice and the environment such as global warming (Kao, 97). Search the importance of theology in the care of creation and suggests being aware of their problems at the micro and macro level. Kao gives a disturbing approach as culture and community has a Christian and / or theological responsibility to this issue, including us as individuals. Kao is operating under a Christian's ethical understanding and relationship with the environment in environmental concerns. The correct list of certain actions and principles that can and should be used by the Christian communities to fight climate change awareness, open windows to open for discussion and possible
As climate change is inherently a scientific topic, any claims regarding it should be founded in, well, science. A moral case may be presented as well, such as “We need to ensure that the earth will be a better place for our forebears.” Science should be discussed under the lens of morality supporting the creation of data and information, allowing the data itself to be questioned. Whether or not the data is ideologically motivated should be part of the discussion as well as the data that exists. However, there needs to be conflicting data to prove unethically collected data wrong. Should this be impossible to fulfill, it should be assumed that the data is sound until another data set proves it to be misleading or inaccurate. Arguably, this process may be seen as a fallacy itself; specifically, the Ad Ignorantum fallacy. This fallacy occurs when an argument is assumed to be true because there is no counter-argument. There is one key difference. This system expects to have conflicting arguments vying for superiority. It doesn’t require something to be true because nothing has proved it wrong, it expects it to be true because it hasn’t been proven wrong
To solve environmental problems, the ethical approach is often the most effective approach. When faced with tough issues, many rely on the help of their moral compass. Appealing to someone’s morality can often enact change. These changes will last a lifetime. Evangelical Christians believe that taking care of the Earth is their responsibility. They also maintain that the environment was created by God, therefore, Christians need to take care of and protect it. Two main points of Evangelical Christians are that “that earth and everything in it belongs to man” and “the material world is unimportant or evil”. (Psalm 24:1). This is saying that Earth belongs to man, so it is man’s responsibility to take care of Earth. This also shows that the Earth has other purposes than just serving human needs. The next quote, “the material world is unimportant or evil”, shows that being materialistic and having the most stuff is not what is important in life. Instead, it is more
We typically view climate change as an ongoing thing that can be prevented before any repercussions start to affect us. McKibben states that the indigenous, pure and rural world that our predecessors lived on was Earth. Now, with the swell of industrialization and corporate greed, Earth is no longer and now we have commenced the beginning of earth two, or Eaarth, the dystopia. Humankind’s ignorance and profit-seeking intentions has completely desecrated the world in which we live today. Yet, we think we’re all environmentalists, because we carpool and recycle. As long as there are unregulated companies who continue to drill holes in the ground for profit, we cannot call ourselves eco-friendly. This is why going green has been
Climate change is not something we think about everyday and can be a complex and confusing topic to research or understand. Many of us do not understand the daily implications of climate or what the future climate may look like. Regardless, most people have strong opinions on the climate change topic and many are adamant about their decisions. All across the world, people wonder, is global warming a threat to our lives as we know them? Is the majority of it caused by humans? While some sources say that 97 percent of climate change scientists agree, other sources say it’s more like 40 percent. That is a very large difference in statistics that ranges from almost 100 percent to well under 50.(percent quote) There is still a large amount of controversy
Most of the blame for climate change over the years especially after the 1850’s has been placed on humans. As long as modern humans have roamed the earth, they have been upsetting the natural balance of the earth. People have did this by clearing areas of land, killing animals, polluting water, etc. Before the “modern human”, people like the Native Americans cared for the earth. They respected the land and the people that cared for it. Unfortunately, people don’t care anymore. Until recently, people did not care for the earth. People did not realize the harm they were causing it. Now we know how detrimental things are that we continue to do and used to do.
Warning! If you live in New York City there may be a chance that in some years New York City will completely be submerged by water. This is being caused by global climate change. In various parts of the world global climate change is taking a toll on the environment. According to NASA, there has been about seven cycles of global warming and then retreat back to a stable phase in the past six hundred fifty thousand years. However, as of 1950 the level of atmospheric carbon has not been cycling, it has just been increasing. So, for those people that argue the Earth will regulate and adapt to the carbon levels, has yet to have a valid argument because there are no signs of atmospheric carbon levels slowing down. There are many effects of global climate change, these include but are not limited to, global temperature rise, warming ocean levels, shrinking ice sheets, sea level rise, and many extreme natural events. If we backtrack to the years 2013 and 2014 there were back to back tropical storms and hurricanes in New York City. Hurricanes are a very rare site in the Northeast of United States. Around those years, there were a few months that just had constant tornados in the Midwest. According to NASA, the main cause of global climate change is the trapping of the sun's rays by the greenhouse gases in the atmosphere. In the reading I had to present to the class, many scientists were studying how the sun was heating up the Earth. As early as the nineteenth century, it was evident
A meeting discussing global warming and the ongoing climate change (and the impact CO2 emissions have on the growing problem) has been in session in Peru for the past few days. Dozens of world leaders are gathering to discuss possible changes that can be implemented to halt the increase in temperature seen around the globe. However, many prominent scientists have stated that it may be too late for these world leaders to make any significant impacts (Associated). These scientists, and many other people around the world, believe that humans have contributed significantly to global warming, and as a result mankind needs to do whatever it can to combat this ongoing crisis. Nearly 3,500 miles away from Peru, United States Senator James Inhofe is in Washington D.C., representing Oklahoma in the United States Senate. Senator Inhofe is one of the loudest preachers of the belief that global warming is not the dire threat that so many scientists make it out to be. Inhofe has claimed that it is “arrogant for people to believe human beings are able to change what He (God) is doing in the climate” (Tashman). The Senator believes that only God controls the climate and the environment, and to even think that humans are impacting the earth’s climate is misguided (Tashman). These two opposing viewpoints bring with them questions of religion, politics, human responsibility, and ultimately the fate of the planet. On one side, there are those who say that the science is so concrete, and the
The issue is simple and rather obvious; climate change is real and a problem. With a changing climate comes rising sea levels, hotter days, and stronger and wilder storms, and long painful droughts. What most people can’t seem to agree on is whether or not human activity is playing some role in it. From media outlets to internet forums, the debate is being fought on all fronts. Most of these arguments, however, are just personal opinions and poorly-made observations from the comfort of a gas-guzzling SUV. Honestly, it doesn’t take a genius to look up a legitimate scientific paper and see the data for yourself. Human activity is influencing the global climate in a negative way, with plenty of evidence to prove it and very little disagreement in the scientific community.
Climate change otherwise known as global warming has been an ongoing issue for decades. Beginning in the 19th century, climate change has increasingly affected Earth and its atmosphere. Rising levels of carbon dioxide are warming the Earth’s atmosphere, causing rising sea-levels, melting snow and ice, extreme fires and droughts, and intense rainfall and floods. Climate change has and will continue to affect food production, availability of water, and can add to many health risks in humans and animals. In fact, in an article by Justin Gillis titled, “Scientists Warn of Perilous Climate Shift Within Decades, Not Centuries” he focuses on a paper written by a former NASA climate scientist, James E. Hansen, explaining the effects of climate change on Earth today. Although many believe Hansen’s theories in the paper are quite far-fetched, the author mentions, “Despite any reservations they might have about the new paper, virtually all climate scientists agree with Dr. Hansen’s group that society is not moving fast enough to reduce emissions of greenhouse gases, posing grave risks” (Gillis). Gillis validates the fact that climate change has been rapidly expanding throughout Earth and society has not been able to reduce it fast enough. Many negative risks are being posed and will continue to mount if the issue of climate change is not taken seriously. Although climate change negatively affects nearly all aspects of Earth, it poses a big
