There are numerous debates about the pros and cons of climate change and what are the causes and effects of climate change. There are those who argue that the rising levels of atmospheric greenhouse gases in our environment are as a direct result of human activities. Some activities that are at the top of the list include but are not limited to the burning of fossil fuels, the cutting down of our forest, these activities are causing significant and increasingly severe climate changes which include global warming. Global warming results in a rise in the sea level, longer summers and more severe winters among other issues. For decades now, global warming has been a recurring issue. The term “global warming” first appeared in geochemist Wallace Broecker’s 1975 Science magazine article, “Climatic Change: Are We on the Brink of a Pronounced Global Warming?” and since then dozens of more studies have evaluated the effects of the global warming. But what is global warming? Well global warming is the effect of greenhouse gases on the earth’s surface temperature. Greenhouse gases are gases like carbon dioxide, methane, and nitrous oxide that become trapped in the earth’s atmosphere. These gases raise the earth’s temperature. Human activity on earth, such as the burning of fossil fuels, add more gas to the atmosphere and excessively warm the planet. The US, being only one country, cannot stop global warming alone, but it can and should do its part to reduce emissions. However, we cannot just immediately stop all emissions. The main obstacle between us and a green energy economy is economics. Most of the energy sources we use either emit a large amount of CO2 and/or Methane or they are not economically feasible to switch to. Solar energy, however, maybe be the one energy source that can both eliminate emissions and provide energy to the country at a cheap price.

Climate Change is a serious social issue that can have devastating effects on human health, the Earth’s climate, and other organisms that live here. Climate Change is caused by increasing Co2 levels in the atmosphere. Because of climate change, there has been an increase natural disasters including hurricanes, tornadoes, droughts, and thunderstorms. These Natural disasters are life threatening and are a serious issue.

As a global community, we are faced with many challenges, however climate change is a primary concern. The impact that climate change will have on populations is severe and worsening, and it is largely our fault. Human activity such as burning of fossil fuels, increased population as well as deforestation has caused an increase in gas emissions within the atmosphere, resulting in global warming (NSW Government, 2017). Fossil fuels such as coal, gas, oil, petroleum and liquefied petroleum gas are used in everyday life for transportation, electricity and heating (Origin, n.d.). Worldwide, we use a vast amount of fossils fuels every day. In fact, worldwide, we use around 89 billion barrels of fuel, daily (Origin, n.d.). This vast amount of fossil fuel consumption is drastically effecting our environment and worsening our climate and as a result, our current population, our developing and island nations as well as our future generations will significantly be affected.

The most significant event to indicate climate change is the melting of the polar ice caps. The area of sea covered by the Arctic ice at the North Pole has shrunk by 10% in recent decades, and the thickness of the ice above the water has decreased by about 40%. On the other side of the world, the ice sheet above the Antarctic continent has become unstable. Glaciers are retreating all around the world. Since 1979, glaciers in the European Alps have lost about one-fifth of their volume, and the loss rate has clearly accelerated since the 1980s.

Climate change and the impact it will have on the Earth are a real and increasing cause of concern. Rising sea levels and sea temperatures, increases in the frequency of extreme weather events and increased acidity in the ocean are some of the things that will have a devastating impact on human agriculture. Unless something is done to change these things, lesser developed countries; many and most of which are majority Islamic, will face food shortages, disease and famine, resulting in people displacement, mass refugees and death. Islam is practised worldwide, majority of those countries where the Islamic faith is practised, are poorly developed countries.

The Earth’s temperature is rising, the oceans are warming, glaciers are retreating and because of this, our sea level is rising and more (Climate Change Evidence). The climate changing has the potential to completely damage our world. Animals, plants, ecosystems and our health will all be affected. Changing weather patterns are already wreaking havoc in coastal areas and areas prone to flooding. While other areas are experiencing droughts and wildfires (The Threats of Climate Change). Human activity on Earth is to blame. We are causing a “greenhouse effect.” Burning fossil fuels, coal, oil, driving cars and more are attributing to this (Climate Change Causes). Yet, with all this evidence in hand, climate change is still a hotly debated topic in our society. However, a study in 2010 found that 97-98% of climate researchers that are most active in their field all agree that human activity is the primary culprit for global climate change. This same study also found that the proficiency of researchers that do not believe humans have caused climate change is "substantially below" that of researchers who believe that humans have caused the climate to change (Climate Change Procon.org). Instead of increasing funding to research, or putting forth funds to establish clean energy, our President, Donald Trump, has slashed the budget of the Environmental Protection Agency. Climate change is a concerning problem that is happening to our planet right now, due to human activity. We are damaging our planet through the burning of fossil fuels which are causing greenhouse gases. We use these fossil fuels every day in cars, planes and many other activities and the effects of this is the warming of the Earth’s surface and oceans – the surface temperature has increased 0.8°C over the last hundred years. [1] Oceans range over 70% of Earth’s surface and have many important roles in the survival of our planet. They release oxygen and take in carbon dioxide, transport nutrients and are home to many populations. Climate change is affecting aquatic systems through the melting of polar icecaps and therefore rising sea levels. The coral reefs are endangered due to climate change and we are also more likely to have rapidly changing, severe weather conditions such as heat waves, droughts and floods. As a result, climate change is very damaging for aquatic environments both marine and freshwater, which effects the habitats for endless different aquatic organisms.

Droughts, lengthy hot spells, heavy downpours, floods, and other extreme weather events are occurring more frequently and intensely every year. Around the world, research teams are analyzing these trends, noting the changes in temperature, rainfall, ice mass, sea level, and many other variables recorded by weather measuring devices. The trends are undeniable: the Earth is getting warmer. Polar sea ice and glaciers are melting, the sea level is rising, and as the oceans absorb more and more carbon dioxide, they are becoming measurably more acidic. Why is this happening? What is the cause of all this global warming? Mostly consisting of water vapor, the atmosphere is a natural layer blanketing the earth and creating what is known as the “greenhouse effect.” Normally protecting the planet from temperature extremes, when heat-trapping gasses accumulate in the atmosphere this creates an unnatural “expansion” of the greenhouse effect. The result is global warming.

I have been researching the topic of climate change and its implications locally and globally and I have concluded the following:

Global warming is a naturally occurring phenomenon within our planet that needs to be reduced because it is affecting us in many harmful ways. It is one of the most current and widely discussed factors. It has been impacting us negatively in ways such as biodiversity and climate conditions. Several current trends clearly demonstrate that global warming is directly impacting on rising sea levels, the melting of ice caps and significant worldwide climate changes. Over the years, scientists have conducted experiments to understand the causes and effects of global warming and they have searched for solutions. They have warned others about the dangers of pollution and human activities and have urged others to do something about it. In short, global warming represents a threat to all living things on earth.

Global warming, often confused with the term “climate change,” is a problem of worldly proportions that knows no limits, caused in large part by human actions. If it continues unchecked, its effects will be felt around the planet, from human society, to the environment, to the world economy. The purpose of this research paper is to understand the topic of global warming, its causes and effects, in order to help understand better what can be done to stop it. Global warming, as it stands, poses a monumental threat to the planet and all of its occupants; while mega polluters do not have an incentive to stop greenhouse gas production, we can, as individuals work towards the solution, greenhouse gas reduction, by improving our awareness and implementing the day to day measures necessary in achieving this goal.

Global warming is already taking place. It stopped being a prediction. The temperature at the earth’s surface has averagely increased by around 0.60 C.Both the oceans and the air are warming. It is believed that the greenhouses gases’ concentrations in the atmosphere have increased dramatically since the periods of pre-industrialization. This condition is caused by the activities of human beings most especially through the burning of fossil fuels such as natural gas, oil, and coal (Wang & Chameides 1). Deforestation is also another cause. This essay will discuss what global warming is, its causes and effects.

I am going to be telling you about 5 independent variables that are contributing to the cause of a problem the world is currently faced with, global warming. What is global warming? Well, global warming is a rise in the Earth 's average atmospheric temperature that causes corresponding changes in climate and that may result from the greenhouse effect (which I will talk more about.) Which is when our ozone layer has a hole which gradually increases, and increases heat from the sun. This causes major problems such as the polar caps melting and increase of temperatures on Earth.
