Personal Statement:

It is no accident that I have chosen Roosevelt University's, MA Clinical Psychology (Counseling Practice) program. I am particularly interested in Clinical Psychology because it is open to all kinds of people. A person’s mind and its foundation are solely based on solid principals that are both instilled and what is gathered through our experiences. Psychology attempts to explain the mental processes and how it affects a person’s present and future depositions. It is a gateway to multicultural sophistication and competence as well as considering every aspect of a person without any preconception. The MA Clinical Psychology degree will not only provide stability and purpose but increase opportunities to work with diverse groups of people. It is not a question of cultural consideration, which comes from a position of power and privilege. It is the matter of appreciating everyone equally. This …show more content…

I was able to observe the doctor, nursing staff, as well as patients during my visit. It has been almost a decade, and I still have my legal pad of all the notes I had taken during my rounds with the doctor. However, one of the things that have stuck with me since was the over use of medication. My yearning at that point geared me away from psychiatry as I believe there is a better way to treat people suffering from psychological problems and disorders. In addition, psychology isn’t the only passion of mine. I also studied music. The one thing science cannot duplicate is to understand musical behavior and musical experiences through the use of Music Psychology. One would agree that music is extremely therapeutic and can affect ones intelligence, psychological, physiological and social abilities. Not to mention the power of emotion I receive as a musician.
