It is my strong desire to attend Fielding Graduate University APA (American Psychological Association) accredited doctoral program in clinical psychology. I have always been intrigued by the human mind for as long as I can remember, specifically the psychopathology of it. I truly enjoy conducting psychological research, learning about psychopathology and how to treat it. While conducting research and learning, it is important to remember that the purpose of psychology isn’t to predict a person’s thoughts, actions, and behaviors, but to understand them. There are dozens of events that occurred in my twenty-five years of life that led me to this meaningful choice of pursuing a doctorate. The two most significant events were when I was in the …show more content…
As the small group grew larger, I achieved great satisfaction in the effects that it had on the participating soldiers. This confirmed my thoughts that I had found my true calling. The second event that affected my decision was when I returned from my second combat deployment in Bagram, Afghanistan. Upon returning there were hundreds of soldiers who requested to seek mental health treatment for a variety of reasons, including loss of a loved one, night terrors, and suicidal thoughts. Although every soldier that requested mental health treatment was able to meet with a mental health professional, such as a licensed clinical mental health counselor (LCMHC), a licensed marriage and family therapist (LMFT), and a licensed professional counselor (LPC), there were still dozens of soldiers that weren’t diagnosed for months because of the lack of clinical psychologists who was required for specific testing. Understanding that there was a need for something that I was passionate about ultimately made me decide to pursue a doctorate because I plan to conduct research during the program and after licensure. A Ph.D. is a research degree that requires conceptual and theoretical knowledge; it is not enough to regurgitate …show more content…
To complete any of my goals, I first need to gain acceptance into the program. My next goals are to finish the program and be a teacher's aide for at least four semesters. Upon being accepted to the program, Fielding allows students to complete the program in the minimum amount of time of five years. Fielding also allows doctoral students to become teacher’s aids if they meet the requirements and are selected by the approving staff members. Contributing back to the school is important to me because it creates growth. After completing the program, I will have the necessary education needed to complete the Examination for Professional Practice of Psychology (EPP) exam and become licensed as a clinical psychologist, which will allow me to pursue my professional goals of working at the VA Behavioral Health Center in Temple, Texas. Fielding’s program will also allow me to continue conducting research on the neuropsychological effects of cannabis and the effects of childhood exposure to neighborhood violence in Dr. Kristine Jacquin's forensic neuropsychology research lab. After a thorough review of more than forty Ph.D. programs in clinical psychology, I have chosen to apply to Fielding Graduate University because my goals fit with the program. Due to the knowledge and training specific to clinical psychology that Fielding will provide and the six values that include academic

I am proud of the hard work and impact I have made while working for Emerald Coast. However, having only a bachelor’s degree in psychology greatly limits my career advancement opportunities within the field. While working in the hospital, I have decided to apply to graduate schools to further my education and fulfill my career goals.
When I first started my college journey I initially majored in Biology. Not knowing what I wanted to do, I was influenced by my advisor to enter the biology field. After my third year, I decided not to pursue biology anymore, and that’s when I discovered my passion for the Psychology field. After receiving my undergrad in psychology, I knew that I wanted to get my masters in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, but I had no idea of how broad this area is. This week assignment granted me the opportunity to interview someone who has been in this profession for 25 plus years who has worked in all sectors when it comes to mental health counseling. It allowed me to learn the pros and cons of this field and it even gave me more insight and clarity on exactly what I wanted to do. I found this week assignment to be very informative and I believe it is necessary for anyone that’s interesting in entering in this field. I am grateful for the knowledge and advice that I received during this week assignment.
When I declared a psychology major during the second year of my undergraduate career, my objective was to attend medical school and eventually become a psychiatrist. I enjoyed the psychology classes in which I was enrolled and found them to compliment the premed curriculum I also wanted to study. I reasoned that a major in psychology would provide insight that could later be useful in my planned studies of psychiatry. Although I decided against going to medical school, psychology remained the primary area of focus of my studies with the ultimate career goal of becoming a clinical psychologist. While my long term professional plans include achieving a PhD and becoming a clinical psychologist. Pursuing a masters degree in

My purpose for seeking to pursue a doctorate degree is to enhance my knowledge of theories, research methods and assessment as it relates to psychology. More specifically, I would like to fine tune my skill set of executing varying concepts and techniques derived from theoretical discourses applicable to my work as a Psychologist and in so doing, obtain credibility within the field and among colleagues. I also believe, like Abraham Maslow in his theory of Human motivation, in becoming a lifelong learner and achieving intellectual self-actualization. I felt like my esteem needs were met through completion of a Master’s degree and am now compelled to aspire towards higher study; thus doctoral pursuit. Through my journey in completing a Master’s degree in Counseling psychology, I acquired internship experience and continue to obtain a wealth of firsthand experience within the human services field from years of working with students with behavioral, emotional, and social problems.
I recently completed a Master’s degree in Counseling psychology through a mentored low residency program at the American International College in Springfield, MA. More specifically, I aspire to develop a more
Before proposing a course I believe it is vital for one to first understand the concept military psychology. The practice of psychology or psychiatry in the military has been around for decades. The military needs psychologist to help choose the best men and women possible to serve and protect. Also, the psychologists must ensure the enlisted are in the best mental and emotional shape possible. It is considered to be a “unique situation” in which not only are these individuals practicing psychologist or psychiatrist they are also most times active duty military personnel. This unavoidable circumstance causes the situation to be significantly different from private practice and other outside settings. For example, clients become comrades
I am a thinker, writer, traveler, translator and a perpetual psychology student. I am not the one to get into things impetuously. Over the last few years I have explored different interests and inclinations and have realized that Psychology is my true calling. My personal penchant for health psychology or behavioral medicine stems largely from my credence that there is a strong connection between psychological and physical wellbeing. I want to explore this association in detail by linking health psychology topics with social psychology. My purpose for applying to a research oriented MA program of SDSU is simple: I want to experience the dynamics of psychological research – it involves brainstorming a research design and methodology,
