Taking a Closer Look On Thursday November sixteenth the experiencing humanities class took a trip to the Joslyn Art Museum here in Omaha. We took a little over an hour to walk around the museum and check out all of the art work. There were many different displays. Everything from sculptures to paintings and woodwork to needlework. I have only been to the Joslyn one other time in my life and that was during my fifth grade year of middle school. Our art teacher took our whole class to the museum for a field trip. I remembered seeing some of the artwork in fifth grade, but this time I payed much more attention to the individual pieces. Each wave and each cloud has life. It is said in the description that Philippe Jacques de Loutherbourg was appointed painter of the king of France. He was the youngest member of palace in France at the age thirty-one. The description explains that he painted scenes of travelers being attacked by bandits and shipwrecks, as well as landscapes, mythological, religious, and historical subjects. Therefore, this particular painting includes all of his best talents. Illustration for Fisk Cord Tires is also an oil canvas painting. This painting is mounted on Masonite and was illustrated by N. C. Wyeth in the year 1919. The piece includes a variety of colors and a large contrast of darks and lights. There is an extreme amount of detail up close, but the background starts to fade out. Although, there are still small things, like the clouds in the sky that are still etched with detail. In the painting there are three indians on horseback, one pulling a child in a sled with another child on their back. They are riding in the mountains and there is a ford kicking up dust on the path next to them. This particular piece jumped out to me because this is exactly how I pictured the american civilization in the beginning.As mentioned before this piece is also extraordinary because of the colors used. The indians are shadowed in the dark while the car is cruising through the sunshine. This to me shouts moderation. Like the well known phrase,
