Even though she was at her house, she still hurried to get to school for the feeling of satisfaction and safety instead of staying at her house which is filled with fear and discomfort. Barry uses the main character’s actions to convey that the narrator only feels comfort when she is at school and that she always urges to be there. Secondly, in the passage that follows, Lynda Barry writes the narrator’s thoughts to show that just the sighting of someone’s safe haven can relieve panic. “ All I knew was a feeling of panic, like the panic that strikes kids when they realize they are lost. That feeling eased the moment I turned the corner and saw the dark outline of my school at the top of the hill” (Barry 1). The quotes conveys that just when the protagonist sees the outline of her school the feeling of discomfort simply disappears. The narrator’s mind finally went calm, as shown through the thoughts that went through her head. Thirdly, in the next excerpt, the author uses first person narrative to express the thinking of the central figure of narrative. “It’s only thinking about it now, 28 years later, that
Since that time donation has been the only way to increase the current supply of transplantable organs. Some people are uncomfortable with the idea of organ donation due to misconceptions and lack of knowledge. In fact, organ transplant recipient Dr. Phil H. Berry, Jr. points out that there would be less deaths of people waiting for transplants, “if Americans would overcome their reluctance to become organ donors” (29). Organ donation whether it is upon your death or giving a part of a liver or one kidney while you are alive is a charitable gesture towards your fellow man and could give meaning to the end of your life. The mere act of donating could bring more peace to your loved ones at the time of your death and as a result, you could give
At Hailsham the outside world is represented by the woods surrounding the school. Kathy recounts that “there were all kinds of horrible stories about the woods” (Ishiguro 50). This quote shows how the woods and the outside world were viewed as scary and haunting to the students. The woods also represent the unknown that the students will have to face after Hailsham. The woods reinforce the idea of Hailsham being the students’ sanctuary, moreover, their only certainty in life. This preconception that Hailsham is safe and the rest of the world is dangerous and frightening supports why the students would never rebel. Even after leaving Hailsham, their fear of the unknown encouraged them to accept donations because it was all they knew, and it was their only remaining link to

Some people remember elementary as all fun and games. Others barely recall it at all. I remember it like a “cottonfield across the road…on the outskirts of Memphis” (Sanders 1). Isolated and lonely. It wasn’t exactly the happiest period of my life. “[My classmates’] faces in memory are utterly blank” (Sanders 1), but the memories are not. The words that were said. Tears that were shed. Although it was a hard time, the events of those years affect me to this day.

My Sisters Keeper was an interesting story that makes you explore your feelings about what is ethically acceptable when it comes to saving the life of a or your child. Parents often plow ahead with their ideas or plans without considering the impact their actions will have on the other children or child. There are three children involved in the movie. Jesse is the oldest, Kate is the middle child and the one that is need, and Anna, the child that was scientifically designed and conceived with the intentions of being a donor, lifeline for Kate. The unique circumstances surrounding all three of the siblings results in numerous developmental issues. These issues hinder their psychosocial development leaving them trapped in different stages of Eric Erikson’s developments stages. Jesse is in Autonomy vs Shame, Anna is in Identity vs Role confusion, and Kate winds up in Stagnation vs Generativity.
