To compliment the hybrid cloud, I am enabling the effort to move to Storage as a Service with the capability to evolve into a hybrid environment. As the senior operations manager, I have intimate knowledge of the agency technical implementation for Iaas, Paas and Saas. In my new position as Director of Infrastructure Services, I am leading a Software-Defined Infrastructure (SDI) effort which is a technical computing infrastructure entirely under software control with no human intervention. My goal and I have achieved some small victories, operates independent of any hardware specific dependencies and is programmatically extensible. Our SDI approach removes IT complexity and allows the enterprises to achieve new levels of performance by increasing speed, agility, security, scalability, and portability. All of this is required to meet USPTO’s evolving DevOps effort. The USPTO SDI will deliver multiple IT infrastructure environments independently as separate collections on the same underlying hardware. Learning from the tried and true approach of the virtual machine, which is the emulation of a particular computer system, USPTO SDI is focusing on developing a new solution capable of providing isolated infrastructures entirely in software.
