Fans think that people are misinterpreting these lyric and topics that the singers discuss. When singing or talking about their use of drugs and alcohol, they are not trying to glorify their behaviour or influence others to follow their path. On the contrary, artists such as Lil Peep are sharing their experience with addiction and trying to help people understand that the decisions you make affect your future as well as the
In the global popularity scene, hip hop now rules, and is a dominant cultural form in many parts of the world. Rap gives voice to every culture that produces and circulates it, not just African-Americans. As a new force, rap levels the playing field, opening doors to new cultural players, and ripens for new corporate snakes to pounce on. Circulating ideas, images, sound, and style, it is becoming central to the new multimedia global culture and is an expression of a multicultural world with no borders and limits.
If someone has a bad habit people judge them and base the way they view them because their bad habit and not by the good that they have done for themselves or their families. In this song by Wiz Khalifa, he tells us how people talk about his bad habits by saying, “What they don't talk about the kid that came from nothin'; Who stuck to what he believed in and turned himself to something great; They should use that story to motivate; But instead they'd rather focus on the fact that he's a pothead; Not the fact there's not a lot where I live, 25 and not dead.” In these verses, Wiz Khalifa is saying that in his life people don’t talk about how he has gotten away from the bad places in his life. Fans, disbelievers, media, and whoever else want to focus on his bad habit of smoking, and they try ruining his reputation because of that. Khalifa
What is country rap? Country rap is a mixture between country and rap music. The country lyrics match with the hip-hop beats. So when did country and rap mix together? You could say country rap goes as far back as the 1960’s. There are many differences between country and rap but there is also so many similarities.
Part of why is that cool has become the dominant theme of children’s marketing. Part of the genius of cool is its versatility.” Tara Parker-Pope writes in an article in the New York Times called, “Under the Influence of …Music?” she states, “Only 9 percent of pop songs had lyrics relating to drugs or alcohol. The number jumped to 14 percent for rock songs, 20 percent for R&B and hip-hop songs, 36 percent for country songs and 77 percent for rap songs.” I cannot believe some of the superstars that will record lyrics equivalent to this. Whatever happened to the morals Americans found acceptable to have in this country? That is what Americans would love for people of influence to explain to
Hip-hop culture began to develop in the south Bronx area of New York City during the 1970s. It had a significant influence in the music industry. Hip-hop music generally includes rapping, but other elements such as sampling and beatboxing also play important roles. Rapping, as a key part in the hip-hop music, takes different forms, which including signifying, dozen, toast and jazz poetry. Initially, hip-hop music was a voice of people living in low-income areas, reflecting social, economic and political phenomenon in their life [1]. As time moves on, hip-hop music reached its “golden age”, where it became a mainstream music, featuring diversity, quality, innovation and influence [2]. Gangsta rap, one of the most significant innovations in
Thesis:Rap music does not promote violent actions by teens because rap music is a very diverse genre, it is mainly for entertainment purposes only, and part of the music is involved in anti-violence efforts.

Besides Waka Flocka playing his street based, gang related music, he also contributed elcetro/techno remix music to relate to an opposite ethnicity since he had a diverse group of fans. As a big fan of Waka Flocka when he first broke out in 2009 with Flockaveli,
In the early days, Hip-Hop was primarily related to the rhyming, rhythmic spoken word art form known as rapping. Rapping is, in fact, not a new method of creative expression. The ease with which young people can participate in this form of creativity seems to have helped the phenomenal growth of this genre of music and expression. Review of rap music lyrics and styling from the early to mid-1970's, when Hip-Hop began, reveals several aspects of the musical genre that appear to have had significant appeal to young people, particularly those in urban communities. There has never been one all-inclusive form of rap music.
I think you made a great point! I too believe that your ideas of the continuous change of atmospheres and lack of moral values play a major role in the “gang world.” For example I know many people personally who do not have any moral values, does not care about anything, and has no goals in life, so they commit all if not most of their time and dedication to their gang. Also atmospheres are constantly changing and gangs are always migrating to new areas, which often leads to new recruitments. I also agree with you that “gangsta rap” music as well as the videos has made violence and the gang life seem socially acceptable to live the lifestyle they are living. This often leads to people wanting to be like the rappers or ultimately forming
J-rap music is too often mistaken as imitating the orthodox genre of rap, and it’s not. Although, influenced by old-school rap, J-rap is still unique. A lot of rap music produced today is commercial, and the artists are making their riches promoting negative images to the youth of today’s society. At one time, rap music served as a medium to empower youth in a positive way. However, today rap is giving far too much praise to criminal deportment and meantime, while American rappers continue to advocate gangster rap singing about guns, drugs, and sex J-rap, on the other hand, doesn’t. When it comes down to Japanese artist rapping about mind altering substances “beer and marijuana” is in their lyrics, but harder substance such as “crack cocaine
Hip-hop as a whole, consists of DJs, who make the beats and scratch records, rappers who rhyme lyrics to the beat, graffiti artist who use spray paint to make art on building walls, and breakdancing to the music. Shortly it advanced, serving as a platform for urban youth to discuss things they faced on a daily bases from their crime ridden neighborhoods to struggling for a meal. Hip-hop consists of many different styles and flows like bands like Public Enemy used militant style lyrics to uplift the black community and send political messages while artists like LL Cool J sang smooth love ballads boasted about his talent. Later came gangster rhymes that glorified murder, misogyny, and other topics of the sort. Groups like A Tribe Called Quest and De La Soul use their own style on hip-hop with mellow flows over sophisticated jazz beats while rapping about culturally and politically conscious topics.
Artists have mentioned, paid homage to, and warned against the pitfalls of drugs, from lean, to Xanax, to cocaine, to marijuana, to molly and yet a clean culture still hasn’t become popular to the hip hop audience. From warning against abuse to promotion of the abusive lifestyle the message of hip hop has changed the most through the decades. A new accountability must be installed into artist who promote use because they are the ones that influence more people to use and abuse thus causing further overdose crisis. Until this happens, the issue will remain silenced and so will the victims, whether that be the artist themselves or the listener, who are insecure about getting help, losing popularity, or their
With help from my professors I discovered this book through MnPALS Plus and it was on shelf at Metro State’s main campus so I decided to check it out. I searched up rap and hip-hop through MnPALS plus and tried to get as close to my thesis as I could. This book talks about the culture and where rap music originated from. Both topics that I lack knowledge.
For many years, the youth have been known for singing along to their favorite song and taking that song as whole and using it as their motto for life. It may seem that sometimes these kids do not know what is being said in the music but this shows that they do know what the lyrics are saying. According to Franklin B. Krohn and Frances L. Suazo in their article “Contemporary Urban Music: Controversial Messages in Hip-Hop and Rap Lyrics,” many teenagers and minority groups view rappers as their spokesmen because of their ability to speak in street language and bluntly express their frustration (Krohn, 1995). Unfortunately, hip hop lyrics usually tend to talk about drugs, sex and violence leading kids to think that everything they hear is okay and that is how they have to live their life. Yet, there are artists out there who take their lyricist skills to give positive lyrics and messages in their music, but these songs are not often played in the mainstream.
I changed my mind about rap music. Growing up, I never really liked it, the quick beats, the vast usage of inappropriate words not equipped for my adolescent ears disgusted me. I associated rap music as being "dirty," only discussing explicit topics and having no real meaning. While everyone else in high school was blaring Drake and Lil Wayne in the parking lots, I was perfectly okay with listening to Demi Lovato or John Legend. During my sophomore year of high school, my friend kept pestering me to listen to the Hamilton soundtrack, and even though the songs were raps, I realized I loved it. Eventually, I started to not associate all rap music as detrimental and discovered that some rappers rapped about important messages of adversity, conflict, and pain. This lead me to listen to Chance the Rapper's "Coloring Book, " Childish Gambino's "Red Bone and J Cole's "4 Your Eyez Only." I realized that rap is just poetry with accompaniment, poetry that has the rhythm and style to bring generations of people together.
