In acting and playing a sport, you depend on something or someone to lead you in the right direction. No one is a pro at something they first try, it takes guidance. In both of these activities you are there to entertain the public, but without instruction most likely will fail the objective. This is how a coach of a sports team and a script intertwine with one another. Not many people would compare these two to be similar, but if you look deeply they aren’t as different as they seem. A coach is there to help lead the way in your career, Jeff Mitchell announced, “ You focus on developing the athlete to play the game..”(Mitchell, 2012). Informing us that coaches are set upon us to help grow the skills needed to perform well in the game. They teach you the rules of the game and what to do exactly if a situation occurs happens. While with a script its job is similar to a coach. A script described by ScreenWriting.info is a, “document that outlines every aural, visual, behavioral, and lingual element required to tell a story”(“ScreenWriting,” 2016). Meaning it gives the outline of the story to the characters performing the play. Both a coach and a script help lead the player and character in the correct path. Another comparison between these two is they both set a role for their …show more content…
As time goes on and a player has absorbed much needed information from past coaches to succeed in the sport, they have a very good opportunity to go to the next level. Scouts are always looking for players who have been taught properly and have excellent talent in the game. With the script, if played correctly by the character they never know who is in the audience. A producer for a movie may like the way the actor performed and would want him/her to perform in a movie. Just because they followed the script exactly how it was written. Both leading them into a life style anyone would ask
Having a coach in life will positively influence your character and your skills. Also, having a coach doesn’t necessarily mean that your playing on a field. A coach can be anyone from a role model to a parent or guardian, a teacher, a pastor, a mentor, or sometimes even a best friend. One of the most important things for a coach to have is influence, and more important than that is that the influence he has on his players must be positive. As a leader, a coaches job is to better his players on and off of the field. This is done by developing the character of his players through encouragement and helping them understand that the game is more than just about winning. A good coach will always put the needs of his players first before he considers himself as a factor. If a coach is successful his players will develop a strong sense of self-motivation. This helps by allowing the player to
As I was assigned to read Dan Barry’s essay “A writing coach becomes a listener”, I had no idea what it was going to be about. After I read it, I was truly fascinated by the story because it was readable. Then I realized that there were some characteristics of writing that made Barry’s essay readable. And that’s why I decided to talk about several readable qualities of the prose from the following passages, which end’s Barry’s essay. One of the readable qualities that got my attention was the Barry choose the title “A Writing Coach becomes a Listener” with care.
Softball has been around since 1887. No one knows how hard it is to become a successful softball coach: “It’s a lot harder being a coach than being a player. You as a coach have to think about everyone and plan for every scenario”(Kelsey Jones). The first national championship was held in Melbourne, Australia, in 1965. In 1982, softball officially became a part of the National Collegiate Athletic Association(NCAA).
This essay will start by defining mentoring, and giving a brief understanding of mentoring. This essay will then go on to identify and evaluate a number of key factors that may influence the effectiveness of a mentoring relationship. This essay will focus on the example of mentoring within schools and a learning mentor to be more specific.
A coach is someone that has to be organized and everything that's happening around the game. I try to find players that are good enough to try to go somewhere in life and I think that would be good for my
A Coach is somebody who develops, improves or promotes changes in a persons ability and understanding. Coaches work with another person or a group of people and develops them as people using sport to progress them in their development. All coaches have certain responsibilities towards performers, their sport, their profession and themselves. Below I have identified what a coach may be required to fulfil.
A person must have specific knowledge of the sport they desire to coach, because they have many duties that come with their job. “One of the main duties of the Coach is to put together a team of the best athletes available in the specific sport” (Field, 2012, p.115). Coaches and athletes both want to be successful. This is why one of the main duties of a coach is to pick the top players out of high school. It is hard to be successful if a team does not have the proper athletes. A coach’s duties will vary depending on the size of the school. At a small school a college coach could be responsible for not only coaching but also recruiting, scouting, finance of the team, and much more, while at a larger school a coach may have their own departments for each of those duties. The main focus of a college coach is to prepare his or her players
The movie Coach Carter was about Richmond high school's basketball team that was very small and did not have a lot of money. Also the high school had needed a new basketball coach and that's when Ken Carter came in. Carter had not only taught them how to play basketball, but had shaped them into being young men and going to colleges they would dream of going to. They had made it all the way to the State Championship, but lost it to a buzzer-beating shot. How can the movie Coach Carter influence an athlete's life.
The film “Coach Carter” demonstrates many great examples of good communication between coach and athlete. I will point out a few examples of good communication from the film and I will explain why the examples I discuss demonstrate characteristics of effective communication. I will use a few excerpts out of the communication chapter of our text book, Chapter 11. I will use these excerpts from Chapter 11 of our text book to explain why the examples/quotes from the film, that I have pointed out, demonstrate good communication skills. The film “Coach Carter” is a great film about a high school basketball team that is located in a bad area of town. The

Taking the time to reflect on why it is someone coaches is beneficial for personal growth, and for creating an awareness of one’s changes in motivation, which affects behavior. Therefore, changes in motivation can be reflected in someone’s behavior and his or her well-being. Those who feel that they are coaching because they want to, will be successful, and feel that coaching allows them to acquire relationships with their players, and display more motivation for coaching. Being aware of why someone coaches their sport is an important part of reflective practice. One person’s
For as long as I could remember, I have always had an interest in acting and performing. However, growing up I was constantly overcome with anxiety that I would hold myself back from ever participating in school performances and enrolling in acting workshops. To make up for those missed opportunities, I began teaching myself by imitating scenes when I am alone, picking up on the rules and techniques by observing actors on screen, and watching behind-the-scenes videos so that when I grew older, I would be prepared for the real thing. When I finally mustered up the courage and motivation to enroll in this course, those techniques I taught myself were not only confirmed but were even enforced on us students. Skills such as character development,
When I think of coaching I think of practice planning, game planning, scouting strategizing of offense and defense, choosing my starters, little things like that. All of those ideas are valid, but that’s not the whole picture. There is a lot more to coaching than planning for a practice or a game. Many times a person who would like to coach an interschool athletic team has little or no preparation to teach sports skills and techniques. The only qualifications is often the person’s participation on his or her high school, college, or university’s team, coach of a community youth team or even perhaps as a professional player. While all that experience is valuable in one way or another, it does not constitute an adequate preparation for
The career path I’ve chosen was to become a football coach. My former football coaches inspire me to chase this career path. I think me becoming a football coach would match my personality because I would want people to do well in life and I would want students that I would coach to grow up to be the best person they can be. This career needs me to have experience with football and the knowledge of the sport of football. I think becoming a football coach would be the most satisfying career path for me because I love the game of football and what it's about.
Upon successful completion of this project I will identify an existing problem of a team that I am a part of and I will act as team leader and develop a coaching plan to solve this problem. I will use my current place of employment as an example. As team leader, I will lead the resolution to the problem and build a more cohesive and productive team.
