As an athlete a coach has the most impact on you over any other person. Teammates can leave and not change the makeup of the team, but if a coach decides to no longer coach, then the entire team can fall apart. A folding team is the worst situation for an athlete and that is exactly what happened to me.My coach, who I had known since I was seven, witnessed her proposal, and attended her wedding, finally was pregnant with a baby girl. The newly discovered fetus created an exciting time for her and her family as well as us players. With our head coach of three years finding out she was expecting, our team folded, I had to find a new team to play for, some great athletes left the game for good, and her coaching career ended.

The new team decided to branch out from a larger organization and were looking for older girls to help the younger players. I thought my softball career was going to put on hold for a year and would affect me playing in college, but I began to play with them in August. My old team had shown me my first college interests. It gave me my first college visit and softball practice. But, this new team gave me the opportunity to play college softball here at Concord. Our coach leaving us without a team did not end our careers, it just forced us to decide if we really wanted to play in college.
A coach’s impact has more of an effect on athletes than most would expect. When our coach decided to leave the team some of my teammates decided to leave the game as well. Our softball team was like a close knit family that spent every weekend together on a softball field. When the news broke that our coach was pregnant some players had the difficult discussion with their parents about leaving the game. Although most of the girls who play travel softball play to go to college some just play because they love the game. Those girls who did not want to play in college thought it would be better and save their family money if they just stopped playing altogether. When our coach decided to leave the team, some girls left the game they loved with her.
The pregnancy of our coach proved difficult for us as players but the road ahead for our
Coaches teach athletes skills and sportsmanship and I would want to teach that to my athletes in baseball. Most coaches evaluate their opponents to determine gone strategies. Also ,its important to monitor each and every athletes progress ,and help them to get better when I became baseball coach I would want my team to feel like they are good and we will work on getting better. When considering a career in coaching ,one should explore the general responsibilities , the vacation and the training requirements.
When a passion dies, it is the most heartbreaking thing there is. A coach who has killed my passion has their favorites, makes me feel worthless, and only cares about the girls who she thinks are the best. No matter how hard I worked in practice, it would never be good enough for them.
The biggest difference between good coaches and bad coaches is how they influence and handle a their players. A good coach can push a kids out of their comfort zone to make him/her play better. Good coaches also make the players a better person in society and help them gain confidence. A good coach is a fair coach who sees all of his athletes as equals even when some athletes are superior to others. A bad coach does the opposite of what good coaches. They have a negative effect on the children they coach. Bad coaches can make practice a hostile environment pushing the kids to their mental and physical limit. Bad coaches also cut down their players confidence rather than build it
The relationship between an athlete and a coach is an unique and (humble??) one. It’s all about learning, growing, and overcoming failures to its successes. About looking forward to the future together in the game and beyond the life of sports. The interaction between them should be upheld and agreed upon, to be held together. They are the most influential character of the competitive environment. I believe in the value of a coach.
Overall, I would say that my career goal of becoming a high school athletic director has not changed. I very much enjoyed the tasks and environment of working in an athletic department. The only downside that I observed were the long hours due to having to be present both at all home athletic events, and in the athletic office during the school day. Other than that one downside, I think that I would really enjoy being a high school athletic director. This job would allow me to fulfill my desires of changing the lives of young athletes and promoting the importance of education.
Through all of my research, one thing was constant; the single most important thing that a coach can do is build a relationship with their players. When coaches take their time to get to know each and every one of their players, the chances of the athlete respecting and responding to the coach are much greater. Giving the athlete a feeling of belonging, importance, and welcoming will increase their confidence and most likely their level of play as well. In his article, Scales explains how developing positive relationships results in athletes not only with better athletic ability, but also with better emotional control, social skills, and connection to school and community (20). One of the most important characteristics of having a relationship with the athlete is caring for them. Florida Tech swim coach thinks the most important
Our group wanted to be various kinds of coaches. Two of us want to be football coaches and one of us wants to be a gymnastics coach. However, in the end we decided to go with football since majority won, and then with the college setting.
These coaches are mostly about winning for the team and creating a team culture to help the program be successful. Most of these coaches have the best interest for their athletes and are a father figure to them also. A high school coach is a very selfless person they juggle teaching and coaching and are underpaid compared to the hours they put in. But, they do this job because it is a passion and what they love to do. But, ever since the rise in technology such as twitter and instagram these high school athletes that have a shot to play at the next level they have reached out to personal coaches. These athletes have been told by these personal coaches that they will look after their individual game and will help themselves. Which might be true and some of these coaches really do make these players better. But, what these athletes fail to realize is that these personal coaches are not free. They will not help these players out
Having a coach in life will positively influence your character and your skills. Also, having a coach doesn’t necessarily mean that your playing on a field. A coach can be anyone from a role model to a parent or guardian, a teacher, a pastor, a mentor, or sometimes even a best friend. One of the most important things for a coach to have is influence, and more important than that is that the influence he has on his players must be positive. As a leader, a coaches job is to better his players on and off of the field. This is done by developing the character of his players through encouragement and helping them understand that the game is more than just about winning. A good coach will always put the needs of his players first before he considers himself as a factor. If a coach is successful his players will develop a strong sense of self-motivation. This helps by allowing the player to
Coach Gary Gaines, Permian high football coach, showed a key role in leadership. Once Boobie Miles was injured, he knew in his head that he had lost one of his best players just looking at him in pain from the sidelines. Once the team got in the locker rooms he checked on Miles and the doctor said his knee was not in shape to continue playing; Gaines took it upon himself to, instead of telling his team that Miles was in critical condition, told them that he was going to be alright and instead of worrying just keep playing the best they have been and that they can get through it as a team. Whether the team knew he was lying or not, he was still positive about losing a player and continued to coach as he did (page number here). In addition, Coach
Adjusting your schedule after being in a sport for most of your life is the most difficult aspect of leaving the team. “Having more time to work on my personal life and school life was something that created a stress free schedule for me. The hardest adjustment was not having a team to work out with every day, but I quickly was able to create my own workout,” Dorsey
Overcoming the fact that one day you will not be able to play your sport is one of the hardest things all athletes must one day go through. It is a fact of the game that one day your eligibility runs out or if you are one of the lucky few who play professionally, your body’s years of health do not last forever. Coaching just to be around the sport and spread the joy that sport gave you for so many years. My coaching philosophy relies extremely heavily on this information. I have always been a person who is passionate about the things I love because I do not believe in not putting your whole heart into something. The most critical component to success in whatever sport you love lies in honoring the game that so many before you loved and excelled at. Excelling and honoring the game means having respect for everyone involved with the sport. Giving respect to your coaches is something I learned from the beginning. Being respectful and having a positive attitude learned at a young age is something completely taken for granted until you have adults who can neither adapt nor be flexible when something does not go their way. Sport is a form of education in that it teaches you similar life lessons that will be useful for far longer than the amount of time that you spend actually playing it.
Taking the time to reflect on why it is someone coaches is beneficial for personal growth, and for creating an awareness of one’s changes in motivation, which affects behavior. Therefore, changes in motivation can be reflected in someone’s behavior and his or her well-being. Those who feel that they are coaching because they want to, will be successful, and feel that coaching allows them to acquire relationships with their players, and display more motivation for coaching. Being aware of why someone coaches their sport is an important part of reflective practice. One person’s
Every champion athlete needs a good coach. The greatest basketball and football players need coaches to guide them. If you go to a foreign country, you need someone who knows what they’re doing to give you the guidance that you need.
My topic is similar to yours. I have always been intrigued to examine the relationship between coach and athlete. In my experience, I have found coaches who provide positive support and are constructive with their criticism are more enjoyable to play for and give the athlete a more positive experience. Coaches that come across as condescending seem to push kids away from the game. It is important that the student-athlete has a positive experience, especially student-athletes at a young age. I feel if a student-athlete has a negative experience at the interscholastic level he or she will be less likely to stick with the sport.
