a) Coca Cola was invented in May 1886 by a pharmacist in Atlanta after he wanted to find a substitute for the morphine he was addicted to. John Pemberton created the recipe at a drugstore in Georgia; Pemberton’s Eagle Drug and Chemical House, and named it coca wine. This recipe was a non-alcoholic innovation of the famous Vin Mariani European coca wine that was popular in those days. It was registered in 1885, and in 1886, he developed Coca Cola after Atlanta passed a legislation prohibiting alcohol. In the 1880’s carbonated drinks were considered healthy so they started selling Coca Cola as a patent medicine for five cents. It was claimed by Pemberton that Coca Cola cured many diseases like drug addictions specifically morphine, headaches and dyspepsia. A couple years later, Coca Cola was being sold by three separate companies and a verbal partnership was formed. Now, It also has licensed agreements to produce and sell DPSG (Dr Pepper Snapple Group) products in North America. They have a joint venture with Nestle that sells Nestea products in Europe, Canada and Australia and a strategic partnership (owning 50%) with the company Aujan – which is the largest beverage company in the Middle East. During the first year, nine coca cola bottles would be consumed in one day. Now, more than 1.8 billion Coca Cola drinks are consumed daily worldwide.
