Nurs6008: Framing a research question.
Research Question
Are patients who present to ED, then leave without being seen by a physician at greater risk of experiencing an adverse outcome in the 7 days following presentation, compared to patients to who are seen and discharged?
The question was formulated using the following PICOT structure.
Population = Patients who present to ED.
Indicator = Leaving without being seen by a physician.
Comparison = Patients presenting to ED who are seen and discharged.
Outcome measured = Adverse patient outcomes.
Time = 7 days following presentation.
Proposed study design
A cohort study would be most appropriate to address this question, as a cohort study compares large populations

Databases and Keywords.
I have determined that Cinhal via ebsco is an appropriate database to search to systematically review the current literature on this topic, it is appropriate as it is focuses on nursing and allied health literature, allows narrowing search results by language, source type and date of publication.
Additionally I have found Medline via OvidSP to also be appropriate, this database compliments the literature available on Cinhal by including medical and a greater number of multidisciplinary sources, furthermore Medline offers an extensive range of search narrowing facilities, such as allowing searches of both title, abstract and text body.
I will use the same keywords for both databases as I have found them equally effective on either, my selected keyword and keyword combinations are as follows.
“Without being seen”
“Without being seen” AND “Adverse”
“Without being seen” AND

You are to locate and document research databases that relate to a significant clinical nursing issue of your choice. The research databases may be labeled as such, or may be collections of research studies, reports, articles and/or findings that are not specifically called databases. Please note: Individual journals and journal articles do not meet the criteria for a research database, and therefore, do not qualify for this assignment.
The author undertook an electronic search were used to collect the literature. Three electronic databases were used; Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature (CINAHL), Medline and PsychInfo. These three databases were chosen as they are often used by nurses, allied health professionals, researchers, students and nurse educators to research their subject area (Aveyard, 2014).
As part of the literature review, the Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature (CINAHL), Google Scholar, Cochrane, and EBSCOhost databases were used in the search for sources to be utilized in this DNP project. Evaluative criteria were used to determine quality, suitability, and coverage of selected articles. For instance, the aspect of

Research is a process of systematic inquiry that aims to develop, refine and expand the body of knowledge of the chosen area (Polit and Beck, 2010). Nurses are expected to be able to understand and increasingly conduct research in order to base and develop their professional practice, guide their interventions and utilise the best available clinical evidence (NMC, 2008).The UWE e-search engine was used to search for research articles as it had a lot of databases relevant to my chosen topic. A cross search was conducted as this enabled me to conduct search through various data bases at once, Firstly, I searched on ‘your subject’, which gives specialist advice, research tutorials and web sites for different subjects, I choose Health and Social Care as my subject, searched for databases for health and social care. I searched the British Nursing Index (BNI) via Proquest because BNI is a UK nursing and midwifery database, covering over 240 UK journals with English
For the literature review an electronic search was undertaken of articles published in English using the Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature (CINAHL), PubMed and Cochrane databases from 2009 to 2013 were searched for medical subject heading terms, both individual terms and combination of the following
As the health care environment is becoming more complex, and technology is developing rapidly, the expectations of nurses has increased more than ever before. Times are rapidly changing and to keep up with these changes, nurses are moving away from providing care based on the ways it’s always been done towards research- and evidence-based practice. The purpose of this paper is to define the importance of Evidence Based Practice (EBP). It will give examples of research in practice. And finally, will examine the barriers that prevent research utilization.

The purpose of a systematic review is to attempt to find, evaluate and synthesize high quality research relevant to the research question. A systematic review uses carefully developed data collection and sampling procedures that are put in place in advance as a protocol. (Polit, 2012). A systematic review must contain the following: a clear inclusion and exclusion criteria, an explicit search strategy, systematic coding and analysis of included studies, and a meta-analysis if possible. (Hemingway & Brereton, 2009). Systematic reviews are conducted by nurse researchers to avoid reaching incorrect or misleading conclusions that
Literature Search Paper Research allows an individual to investigate a subject in order to discover facts and theories. The facts learned from the research are applied to his or her everyday use. There are various databases found that assists with research, however not all provide researched and scientific data. As a baccalaureateprepared nurse, it is critical to use a database that provides scientific data in means of articles and journals. The Cumulative Index to Nursing and Applied Health (CINAHL) is a comprehensive database search
