An example of how coincidence plays a part in the lives of Romeo and Juliet is the meeting of Romeo and an illiterate Capulet servant. As Capulet's servant is sent to invite a list of people to a party, he realizes that "I am sent to find those persons whose names are here writ, and can never find what names the writing person hath here writ" (1.2.42-44). The servant then happens upon Benvolio and Romeo, who read this list for him. After learning of this party, Romeo and Benvolio decide to attend in order to help heal Romeo's heart that has been broken by his one sided love. It is at this party that Romeo and Juliet meet for the first time and immediately fall in love. If the servant had not run into Romeo, then Romeo would never have known
Throughout the play “Romeo and Juliet” there are multiple coincidences such as Romeo’s love for Rosaline, his encounter with the illiterate servant, and the moment he set his eyes on Juliet. Many events in the story would have been alters if these coincidences had not been present and show they played an important role in aiding the story’s progression.
For example, Juliet had a vision of Romeo in a tomb as he climbed down her balcony, but she didn't take any action to stop him or even warn him. Similarly, when Romeo arrives at the Capulet party, he recalls having a dream where misfortune chased him for attending the party. Furthermore, the Nurse and Friar Laurance suggest to Romeo and Juliet that their “love” is dangerous and careless and that they should be careful with their actions. For instance, the Nurse tells Romeo's identity Juliet, and how as a Montague, Romeo is her enemy, but Juliet says that last names don't matter even though this last name brings danger to her and her family. In addition, Friar Laurance tells Romeo that his love for Juliet was quick and unexpected, and that maybe Romeo should think carefully about “loving” Juliet.
In this passage by Friar Laurence, he uses the contrasting ideas of ill and well to show the control Juliet's parents have over her life.
In the streets of Verona, Romeo comes across a slave who cannot read. He asks Romeo to read the list of a capulet party and decides to go knowing it was an enemy's party where he intentionally goes to see his ex- lover but meets Juliet instead. “God gi go - den. I pray, sir, can you read?” (Shakespeare 192). It was fate that Romeo and the servant met and that Romeo happened to read the list to the Capulet party. If the servant had never asked for help, Romeo would have never known about the Capulet party where he unexpectedly met the love of his life. “The measure done, i’ll watch her place of stand And, touching hers, make blessed my rude hand. Did my heart love till now? Forswear it, sight for I ne’er saw true beauty till this night” (Shakespeare 201). Romeo falls in love at first sight with Juliet by how beautiful she is before even know she was a capulet. Even though their families were
More specifically, the events leading up to Romeo and Juliet's meeting are a perfect example of
Even before Romeo and Juliet met, fate had already made plans for them. When they would meet, they would forget all about their past about who was a Montague and who was a Capulet, all they would focus on would be the love of each other. For example,
Many people in the previous century took suicide as a way out or worldly pressure two destined lovers in Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare did the same. They are lovers from quarreling families and due to the scenarios and never ending destruction they are forced to self-destruct Shakespeare uses different methods in writing this tragedy e.g. the verbal tricks, side characters and coincidences. There are many coincidences in Romeo and Juliet. They are both nemesis from quarreling families and they r in love. The party night is the day Benvolio wants to cheer Romeo up.
See, if there were for some reason two of you, there would soon be none at all, because one would have killed the other! You would fight over the stupidest things like who has a single hair more on his face; you got
In the play Romeo and Juliet, there are many different connections between my life and the story. But, I have chosen to make one of the most obvious connections in my life, which is my friend Colin and I, connected to Benvolio and Mercutio. Benvolio (Colin) is caring and loving, and wants to keep his best friend Mercutio safe at all costs. Mercutio (Me) is joking and risk taking, always trying to find something to do. The characters that are similar to my life from the story Romeo and Juliet are Mercutio and Benvolio, who have a similar connection to Colin and
Some people say that the word hate is a strong word, but I believe that the word love is an even stronger one. Love can consume you to the point where you can’t think straight, it influences your decisions, it controls you. Romeo and Juliet weren’t the only examples of a love story gone wrong. Cyrano de Bergerac was also put through the miserableness of being in love.
Romeo and juliet Is hate stronger that love. This is Romeo and Juliet a love story by William Shakespeare In romeo and juliet hate is shown to be stronger than love because hate makes you do crazy things honestly … like hurt someone . hate gets in your mind and you cant control yourself and things happen , but in the end you have to deal with the consequences . There are some people who might argue that love is actually stronger than hate . Their main piece of evidence would be in act 1 scence 5 when they fall in love at the Montigues ball where Romeo had first seen Juliet .
How to Murder Without a Second Thought How often do people look at a situation where they must make a decision, and they overestimate the threat at hand? Although people generally realize the opportunities presented to them, when people are presented with an issue or something that is threatening one of their opportunities, they panic. There exists an urge in society to overreact to everyday problems, and cause otherwise needless drama over the situation in order to increase social standing. There also exists unnecessary stress, worry, and an arms race to see whose life is more difficult that comes with this unnecessary drama. In The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet, Shakespeare shows another drawback to this everyday action.
The first connection that came to mind when I read chapters 9- 12 was the story, Romeo and Juliette by William Shakespeare. Both Romeo and Juliette were star crossed lovers and from different tribes in addition, they still loved each other. However, their parents and their tribe members would tell them to stop seeing each other yet, Romeo and Juliette continued. Romeo and Juliette connects to The Chrysalids because of Anne and Alan.
It is not merely a coincidence that Capulet’s servant allowed Romeo and Benvolio to assist him in reading the names of those going to Capulet’s mansion the same night. It is by fate that the serving man asks Romeo for assistance. Romeo was destined to attend Capulet’s party, where his fate will lead him to the love of his life. Upon his decision to attend the party Romeo says “Some consequence yet hanging in the stars | Shall bitterly begin this fearful date” (I iv 114-115) It is then that Romeo predicts what fate has in store for him, showing that it is fate that leads the two lovers to meet, as Romeo says it himself. The final deaths of the lovers is the "consequence" that Romeo talks about and that the bitterness beginning the pathway to
