Through thick and thin bestfriends are always there for eachother. In the novel The Contender Alfred Brooks struggles to become a contender and reunite with his best friend James. Alfred is a high school dropout and has a job at a grocery store that’s going nowhere. James, his best friend is also a high school dropout but he is messing with the wrong crew. Throughout the story, Alfred begins to train at Donatelli’s gym to become a boxer. Later in the story James, who has been doing drugs, goes to rob the Epstein's store , where Alfred works, and almost gets caught. At the end of the story Alfred finds James in a cave with a cut arm that was caused by the burglary. James asks Alfred for a fix but Alfred, the contender, takes him to the hospital

In society, people tend to follow the people's footsteps and apply new characteristic or methods that they obtain from there person. In the story, Into the Wild, Chris McCandless was a boy who favors several literacy heroes. He was able to understand each hero and apply there knowledge that they obtain from other people. He was favoriting Henry David Thoreau, Jack London, Leo Tolstoy and much more. Henry David Thoreau was an American poet and an essayist and wrote numerous books based on his philosophy. However, in the book, he plays a crucial role in giving Chris McCandless life lesson throughout his journey. Jack London is a worldwide celebrity and a famous novelist and journalist. He also has some characteristics that Chris has also obtained from him. In addition, Leo Tolstoy was one of the greatest Russian authors of all times. He has inspired Chris with some of his quotes which reflects him during his journey. There are more heroes that Chris mentions in the story but these are three which he tends to reflect more on.

We all change whether good or bad. It is in us to make decisions that shape the way we act towards everyday occurrences. In this cases Chris Theodorakis changed immensely. Chris went from a unconfident recluse to an outgoing professor. This just shows how fast you can change to become a better person for yourself.

Professor Crawford is a assertive human. He does not like to be corrected. The first time Jamal turned in an essay Professor Crawford doubted that he wrote it by himself. Crawford doubted Jamal because he was African American. Jamal is an extremely talented writer and Crawford knows, but he refuses to accept the fact and continues to bring Jamal down. Crawford wanted to see if Jamal can come up with his own words so he made Jamal write an essay with his supervision.

Chris McCandless is the main character from the book Into the Wild by Jon Krakauer, he is a idealistic man who beliefs that life should be spent out in the wild. He took a journey all the way to Alaska by himself leaving his whole life and family behind to pursue his dream. On his way to Alaska he faced many obstacles and got through them with the help of several people whom he met throughout this journey. Jan Burres, Ronald Franz and Westerberg are some of the people whom Chris interacted with leaving them behind with different impressions on each of them.

The main idea in West Moore's novel, “The Other Wes Moore” is about the different paths that people take, despite going through similar events. Author Wes Moore founded a homogeneous circumstance between himself and the Other Wes Moore, who was in prison for convicted criminals. The Other Wes Moore and Author Wes Moore both experienced a tough childhood. They both grew up in downtown Baltimore and was raised by single mother. Succumbed to their curiosity, they both got involved with drugs; however, individually, they ended up taking different roads towards their future. Author Wes Moore became a successful business leader and juxtaposed to Other Wes Moore, he was sentenced to life in prison for robbery. The novel is presented to us that tragedies

Arthur Bauer was hanging out with his friend Erik Fisher. He knew that he would be unpopular if he did not obey Erik. Recently, Arthur even killed a man named Luiz Cruz. He always hated to carry out these evil plans, but he felt forced to do it to protect his status. The first thing that Erik got Arthur to do was to make fun of the death of his old friend, Mike Costello. “Ha! Do you remember the picture of his face! Priceless!” Erik laughed. “Pretty soon we’ll get to see the close up!”

Shane Burcaw grew up in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania and he’s your typical 21 year old guy, but the only difference between him and the other guys is that Shane was diagnosed with spinal muscular atrophy when he was two. Since he can’t walk on his own, he’s been in a wheelchair. Shane’s blogger with enthusiasm for writing about his life and all of his crazy and spectacular moments that happen. It takes time to learn a new thing especially for Cole Matthews. Cole grew up with a roof over his head but not the parenting that he should of had. Both of Cole’s parents are drinkers, and when Cole dad is drunk he beats Cole for no reason. As Cole grew up he learned of that and thought it was ok. So he started doing it and beating up kids and breaking the law. Cole beat up a kid named Peter so bad that Peter is now suicidal and he has a stutter. Instead of Cole going to jail, he went to a circle of justice and the circle of justice decided that Cole needs to be banished to a island for a year. Well Cole is on the island he changes his physical thoughts, Taking other people's ideas, and looking out for others instead of just himself.

“I love you, and I am proud of you, And, Wes, it’s time to stop running,” (96). In The Other Wes Moore the author shares how he became so successful, and for that, he owes his mother. His mother, Joy, was the most important role model in his life.

“There’s a thin, blurry line between humor and tragedy,” Christopher Paul Curtis. In many cases people don’t even see across the line that Curtis has pointed out. Many people only see the humor or the tragedy, or the good and bad of the world. In the book The Watsons go to Birmingham-1963 by Christopher Paul Curtis, Kenny Watson only sees the good in the world until he meets Rufus and goes to Birmingham, Alabama. Kenny doesn’t recognize any of the real horrors in the world because his society has filtered everything in his life.

Chris McCandless: Ignorance Is Not Bliss Judith Kleinfeld (2001) defines a dumb jerk as: ”a person who is futilely questing for something meaningless or worthless. A person who is woefully unprepared for a trip, who clings to misguided, self-righteous principles, losing friends and hurting themselves and their family in the process"”. This accurately describes Chris McCandless, a 24-year-old man who set out on a journey to find himself as he travels across the country, only to end in the complete and harsh wilderness of Alaska. Another part of the definition that McCandless fits is losing his friends and hurting himself and his family; moreover, during this hiatus in his life, he meets many people and creates strong bonds with them, only to destroy them after ignoring their advice about the Alaskan Tundra.

Christopher Johnson McCandless graduated from Emory University in 1990. The son of well-to-do parents, it appeared that Chris was prepared to embark on the next chapter of his life. He had been editor of the student newspaper, earned honors with a double major in history and anthropology, and seemed destined for law school. Determined to rewrite his story, Chris eschewed conventional expectations. He divested himself of money and possessions and immersed himself in a new identity: Alexander Supertramp, Alaskan Adventurer. Four months after beginning his trek into the wilderness north of Mt. McKinley, Chris's decomposed body was found. When the details of his story emerged, many people thought Chris was mentally disturbed, calling him a "kook," a "nut," and "a half-cocked greenhorn," among other things (Krakauer, 1996, pp. 71-72). Had Chris's story had a happy ending, he would probably be described differently. He brought the tragic ending on himself, and people called him crazy. "Crazy" is a non-clinical word often used to describe someone with an underlying pathology. In this sense, there was nothing wrong with Chris McCandless. What he did suffer from was the enthusiasm and over-confidence of youth. Combined with poor planning and insufficient skills and experience in the outdoors, his "affliction" became fatal. McCandless made bad decisions, but he was not crazy.
