Colegula, I feel the same that “voting poles under the best circumstance can’t be trusted”. The voting process must share fair amount of detailed information about how they are conducted. The general rules of caution must apply at any poll consumer. With many industries beginning to get in the making of poll machines, makes the voters begin to wonder. Colegula, rapidly advancing technology and falling cost of computers it is easy to get into polling business. As a consequence, the opportunity to see the results of poorly conducted poll has become more frequent. The problem is exacerbated because journalists and others who report on public opinion are not generally well trained in assessing poll results of today. This process cannot always
With looming elections, polls with independent samples were taken to obtain the following data concerning the number of people who favor two different major
Tied was such a beautiful story, that started out very dark and tragic and ended so happy like a fairy tale. After reading what the book was about I had to read it. I’ve read 3 books from author Carian Cole and I’ved enjoyed everyone of them, but this one has to be my favorite.
Undoubtedly, the last 80 years have brought the biggest change to the election process - polling. Beginning with the Gallup poll in 1936, the industry has become a titanic business, growing unregulated by the United States government. Frequently, polls have come under fire for their inaccuracy, or for their role in blocking the Democratic process (the 2000 and 2004 elections come to mind). Nonetheless, the 1992 election was not notable because of alleged bias, but because of what the polls said about
For several decades, the American people are skeptical if their votes count due to various voting method. The election process is divided with dissatisfaction and inaccuracy in governmental elections. Set from the voters addressing how they vote, it still means a lot to them because it is what gets the people voice heard. There are voters that are uncertain of trusting the candidates that will make their laws and regulations, however many voters are still incline they have the power to vote them out from office. But when different types of voting equipment’s have their own problems it becomes prevalent to voters. There are ways of voting that would sometimes fail and the discovery of fraud in the voting process can make people question the American election. The rights and privilege to vote is what many Americans believe is the most essential part of being a democracy nation and an American. By keeping the American citizen trust the voting operation system must work properly and establish that the people’s votes are counted for. The American election administration is facing the new generation of technology that is designed for the usage of voting. The management of hardware and software can be a great challenge for many upcoming election throughout the years ahead. Today, there are several methods of voting equipment’s that are used for the election system. They’re
In John Fund’s reflection, the Department of Investigation went through a procedure to see how easy it was to commit voter fraud. The DOI had sent out agents to show up at 63 polling places all who “pretended to be voters who should have been turned away by election officials; the agents assumed names of individuals who had died or moved out of town, or who were sitting in jail. 61 instances, or 97 percent of the time, the testers were allowed to vote.” (Fund, pg 353) After gathering this evidence that voter fraud was possible and way easier than it seemed, they published a report which accused the city’s Board of Elections voting
There is a significantly low percentage of people who commits voter fraud on purpose. A quote from the text states “1 case of a dead person voting (Alan J. Mandell) because poll worker got the deceased man’s name mixed with Alan J. Mandel”, which is who he was casting the vote for. This proves that the election is not rigged invalidates the statement by Donald Trump by claiming that Obama got most his votes from deceased people in his election. There are more incidents where there was an accidental voter fraud. For example, according to the Philly Voice article it stated, “Action News identified some 2,000 cases of suspected voter fraud”, Schmidt said. “Due to time restraints, the Election Board agreed to investigate 20 of them selected by the news organization.” In the end the 20 cases came back that voter fraud was not committed. Also that “the other cases involved an election worker scanning the wrong name or a voter mistakenly signing under the wrong name.” This shows even the most likely to commit a crime wasn’t voter
Jose Marti once said, “The vote is a trust more delicate than any other, for it involves not just the interests of the voter, but his life, honor and future as well.” Although many do not realize it, placing a vote for someone is a significant action, as Marti points out. One vote does make a difference, and who is elected has an influence over an innumerable amount of things. This is why
Elections, if only due to their colossal size, are difficult to measure. The 2000 presidential election Florida recount exemplifies the issues associated with vote counting and the often unsuccessful implementation of technology to remedy a centuries old process. Technology in the election process is often accompanied by great skepticism, and blunders are not uncommon—see Mitt Romney’s
There is a collective action problem in the case of limited poll workers because this position is vital for the voting process to be efficient for everyone, yet there are not enough individuals willing to take on the task. In this case, the interests of individuals do not coincide with the interests of the group. Individuals are rational and act in their own self-interest; however, this does not always measure well in regards to the societal component. This is an issue because there are not enough individuals who view poll working as in their best interest. They rationalize whether it would be wise of them to become a poll worker. Perhaps the individual already has other commitments such as work or school, or maybe they do not want to go through the long work hours, but whatever the case may be they do not commit to the job. This lack of interested individuals ultimately hurts everyone as the voting polls will be understaffed and not running as efficiently. The voters might have to face long lines and confusion due to this lack. This
J.J Strossmayer who holds a P.H.D in law research found that empty and invalid ballot papers (defined as blank or spoiled votes) are one of the biggest problems of the countries that have a compulsory voting. During Brazil’s 1990 elections voter turnout was 76.57%, but 40% of the votes were deemed invalid. (Mackerras & Mcallister 1999) (Evidence: Statistics) In Ecuador’s 2006 elections 40% votes were
In order to determine if the poll is weak or strong, it is important to assess the ways in which the information/data for the poll is collected and how authentic it is. In order for the results, or conclusion, to be strong, the inductive generalization must not contain any fallacies. The sample size must also be large enough to represent a population, so it is not biased. A strong poll would show that the population was selected randomly, with consistently strong statistics, and a low margin error . A weak poll on the other hand, would be one
The essay refers to the undecided voters and the way the media and politicians try to attract them before the Presidential elections. The author puts it in perspective telling us a personal story that happened when he was a child, his mother gave him the great responsibility to make the choice on the country's future, something that should not be taken so deliberately.Unfortunately this happens very frequently on election days, some people do not realize that a single vote counts, it is a reality observed today that a low percent of the active voting population do not practice their rights when it is time of the President's
“Given that someone who is dead, is in jail, or has moved isn’t likely to complain if someone votes in his name, how do we know that voter fraud at the polls isn’t a problem?” (Fund, 1) With the amount of the general public that have been held accountable for committing voter fraud I can say that it exists. The Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now is an organization that, while it intentions are for the good and public, has been known for participating in several cases of criminal activities, during election their members are arrested for voter
Besides that, there were complaints about the use of indelible ink in the 13th general Election. Oppositions and clean-polls activists reported that the ink could be easily washed off (Election ink under scrutiny in Malaysia, 2013). To avoid the issue of phantom voters and to reduce human error when checking the voter’s information during the election a new modern polling
No ballots can be misplaced and there is no need for poll workers to help a voter out by looking over the voters shoulder, then making changes where necessary (Voting Technology Project). People are looking to protect their privacy and make sure that there vote is one of the votes that really count. The problem is that it is not safe to have a paper or receipt type thing printed out for a voter, this type of thing could lead to a wide spread buying of votes by the separate sides. Buying votes is obviously something neither side wants to see happen.
