Colin Kaepernick: An Act Of Justice?

On August 26, 2016 Colin Kaepernick “Took a stand” by not standing during the National Anthem before the preseason game. This angered many fans, including African American fans. Many videos have gone viral, of fans burning Kaepernick's jersey. In one video the man was recorded saying, “if you don't love our country, get the [] out of it. You should never play another down in the NFL. Move to Canada." Although, Kaepernick broke no rules, Officials are still thinking about penalizing him. Kaepernick says that he will not honor a flag for a country that oppresses people of color. Colin Kaepernick, San Francisco 49ers quarterback, started much controversy against America when he remained seated for the national anthem during a preseason game against the San Diego Chargers. Kaepernick seems to had developed an enmity against America. He feels that he and fellow African American athletes should not show patriotism to their country because of the unfair treatment their ancestors went through throughout history. Although Kaepernick does have a point about the racial discrimination colored people went through throughout American history, he still has no right to disrespect his country. Kaepernick himself is not black, he is white, but he is just drawing attention to himself.

12 days have gone by from the start of free agency and Colin Kaepernick remains unsigned. Spike Lee believes the fact that Kaepernick, who has played for the 49ers since 2011, is unsigned "smells mad fishy." There are more than a few people who believe Kaepernick’s lack of a contract is a grand NFL conspiracy and Kaepernick is being blackballed for his National Anthem protests last season. Any front-office conversation about Kaepernick must to begin with his poor play, he also showed some flashes of the player he once was last year, but nowhere near enough to override all the bad film he’s amassed in the last two seasons.

One day in a NFL preseason game Colin Kaepernick decided to take a kneel during the National Anthem and it created a national controversy. Many respected people agree with what he did and I agree too he made a statement for what he believed in. Many athletes before him made these kinds of statements for a cause that they believed in.

Many speculated the Dolphins would sign the much younger and arguably more talented Colin Kaepernick. These days though, Kaepernick is surrounded by controversy following last season after kneeling and refusing to stand during the National Anthem before every NFL game in silent protest of the 'Black Lives Matter' movement.

One of the bigger discussion in the NFL this year hasn’t necessarily been about who’s going to win the super bowl, but about how Colin Kaepernick has been making it a point not to stand during the national anthem. He has been sitting during the national anthem to shine light on the recent killings of unarmed black men. Kaepernick’s choice to not stand is seen as very controversial and many do not agree with it, but as any other citizen of the United States he is protected under the Constitution. Laurie Halse Anderson the author of “Speak” is saying peer pressure is dangerous and harmful to the person that is being pressured like Melinda she was pressured into going to the party and she ended up getting raped.
