Schools are ever evolving, multifaceted, and complex entities. The core business of a school is to deliver quality education programs that will allow all students to become productive and prosperous members of the larger community (Queensland, 2014). In order to build the capacity for schools to provide support services for diverse student needs, education professionals cannot work in isolation. Rather, internal and external service delivery to schools should exist in the form of the collaborative consultation model. The characteristics and stages of consultation, merged with the interpersonal style and identifying features of collaboration, are fundamental to the collaborative consultation model and its successful application within education
ASCA National Model has Mindset and Behaviors guidelines for student success. These guidelines facilitate what a professional school counselor role is in schools, given 35 standards set forth as priorities. Professional school counselors have an important role in assisting students with their education as they focus on the 3 domains of the guidelines which enlist Academic, Career and Social/Emotional Development. This paper will focus on the areas a counselor needs to excel in, to show leadership and understanding of their profession. The areas include the following having a professional organization to belong to, clearly understanding ethical codes, ability to work with multicultural, GLBTQ students, importance of group work and career development.
In Orwell’s 1984, he displays psychological manipulation through Oceania’s government which it uses to control its citizens. This includes the use of propaganda, control of content, and ethnocentrism. The Party’s methods of control relates to real life events repeated in history such as the Nazi Regime from 1933 to 1945 headed by Adolf Hitler and common patterns in cultural history.
The book Barbarians by Terry Jones was a nice change of scenery. It was not like reading your everyday textbook, but more an illustration of all people who were not Roman. Jones helped me understand simple things like the term “Barbarian.” He also helped uncover the mystery that I had not even realized existed about the Romans. I would have never even realized that Rome was not the greatest, without reading and understanding some of the key points discussed in the book. There were parts of the book that kind of drug on for me and reminded me of a history text book. But there were times I felt like I was actually a part of the Roman society, as well as others. This began to peak my interest to dive deeper into the history of these civilizations.
The process of writing this paper has given me the opportunity to reflect on my beliefs about school counseling. As I am just beginning the school counseling program and my beliefs are still evolving, I have a foundation to build upon as I learn more through my coursework and experiences as a practicing school

Collaboration supports children to engage meaningfully with each other. When children collaborate with their teachers and peers, they effectively combine together to join in a deep and wilful desire to co-labour or unpack a series of events on topics of interest and importance. Collaboration has the capacity to provide rich learning environments for children with diverse, corresponding motivations and learning practices. It also produces new engaging challenges and opportunities for children to express their thoughts and feelings. ‘Inter-professional working in education’ is a term given to a group of professionals from different agencies with a variety of specialist backgrounds working together, for educational purposes, to give children with different difficulties and levels of learning the opportunity to reach their full potential in education. The term “refers to interaction between the professionals involved, albeit from different backgrounds, but who have the same joint goals in working together” (Leathard, 2003, p.5). In schools all over the world today, School Counselors are crucial to assisting students, parents, school administrations, and the community. I believe that creating an effective counseling program that supports the counselors’ role in education will foster a close interaction between students and counselor to achieve success in their personal/social lives, academic achievements, and college readiness careers.
School counselors collaborate with other school personnel such as teachers who will help implement guidance lessons in the classroom. As a school counselor it is important to keep the teachers motivated to help implement these programs. Resource teachers typically work the special education students, collaborating with resource teachers ensures that all students are included in the comprehensive program. The resource teacher can help provide alternative to working with students in an inclusive manner. The principles and assistance principles of the school typically serve on the advisory committee, they provide resources to the program, and help communicate the important of the counseling program. School psychologist are there to assist with mental health services, doing assessments, and working with the school counselor during crisis situations. School nurses provide health services to the students. They monitor student medications and note changes in students behavior or effectiveness of the medication. Secretaries are equally important in the collaborative model. Secretaries are typically the first person a parent will come in contact with when entering the school. They are the ones that create that first impression (Erford, 2015). Community agencies can provide additional support to students outside of
Interprofessional practice is a collaborative practice where multiple health professionals work together in health services to provide comprehensive services to their patients, families and communities to get a more effective result by improving the quality of work. The collaborative practise is basically used by the nursing team or other health care workers who are the member of interprofessional team. “A call for interprofessional team and collaborative practice development has been sounded across Canada because this model is viewed as the way to ensure that all professionals and providers can practice to the full potential of their role and competencies” (Potter, 2014). Interprofessional collaborative practice is a way to ensure that human health resources are used properly which help to decrease the duration time for achieving a quality care.
I am going to tell you about my pet wolverine. He is a dog his nickname is woovy. He is very crazy if you say taco bell he will run up and down the house. He isn't bad last night we left him outside of his cage and he was really good usually he would go to the bathroom around the house. He is only 1 and is potty trained he is very intelligent. He loves chasing squirrels. He is very protective for a small dog he is only chihuahua mixed with a doxie so pretty much a wiener dog. He is a small dog with a big bark. And I love him for that. I hope you u like my dog he is the cutest thing on earth. But if you come to my house he will try to scare you away from outside you might think he is a pitbull but he isn't.
School counselors have a key role in advocating for academic success for each student in the school. The advocacy makes the counselors have a leadership role in encouraging and promoting school reforms. The advocacy efforts of school counselors aim to eliminate obstacles preventing the development of students and to create chances for all students to learn. It also aims to ensure students have access to the school curriculum that fits their needs. School counselors collaborate with other people within and outside the school to assist students meet their learning needs. In addition, advocacy promotes positive and systematic change in schools (Trusty & Brown, 2005).
Teacher Collaboration measures the degree to which teachers engage in constructive dialogue that furthers the educational vision of the school.
Collaboration between teachers is a key component to professional development that will lead to higher student achievement. There is a need for schools to set up time for teachers to be able to collaborate together. This allows for teachers to help each other, matchup content, teach each other new and best practices, troubleshoot student issues just to name a few of the areas that collaboration time can help foster within a school. The key is to build time for teachers to be able to collaborate during the school day or week. This collaboration time needs to be between grade levels, departments, and cross curricular when needed. For many schools this is an afterthought to the school schedule or a fleeting thought after the master schedule is completed. A principal needs to keep an open mind to any strategy that will enable the teachers to be able to collaborate for the good of the students and the school.
Fundamentally the role of the classroom teacher is to implement strategies to support, engage and extend the learning of all individuals. In order for this to occur we need to also consider how we involve, collaborate and communicate with parents, fellow colleagues and specialised teachers. Ashman and Elkins (2008) state that teachers need to make themselves aware of the support systems they can access or create to support the needs of all students. This in turn will ultimately enhance teaching potential allowing teachers to fully maximise learning for all. I personally believe that collaboration is not only essential to the professional growth of teachers (Cramer & Stivers, 2007), but a vital key when acting in the best interest of the students and their families.
