College Admissions Essay: A Career As A Nurse

A Registered Nurse is a person who enjoys helping other people. They practically have the responsibility for many peoples lives. What’s interesting about a Registered Nurse is that they get to learn about all the parts of the human body. A Registered Nurse works in the medical field and needs to be ready with anything that comes their way. There could be a sudden death, some kind of medical issue that pops up, and even a patient just falls over and hurt themselves. As a Registered Nurse they need to be able to deal with blood, snot, vomit etc. The main thing a Registered Nurse has to be good at is being able, and wanting to help people in need.

I am Amanda Selich, 27 years old, and have been living in San Francisco for roughly 10 years. I grew up in the East Bay with my 3 siblings and was raised by a single father. Much of my childhood was spent taking care of my younger siblings. This responsibility was so demanding I was forced to drop out of high school and become their “surrogate mother”. However at the age of 24 I was able to get my GED and finally attend college. In fact this past May I graduated from City College of San Francisco with highest honors in Science and Math.

As of 2008, there were about 753,600 Licensed Practical Nurses and 2,618,700 Registered Nurses in the United States (U.S. Department of Labor, 2010-11). In the year 2018, the LPN employment percentage is expected to rise 21% while the RN rate should be approximately 22% (U.S. Department of Labor, 2010-11). This may not seem that high, but it is, when one considers that the expected employment rate for a Dentist is only expected to be 16% (U.S Department of Labor, 2010-11). Nursing is a highly respected and sought after career because every person that enters this profession is able to make a difference and is needed by the general population for his/her skills and contributions to the medical field. In this essay I will be sharing information about a career as a Registered Nurse. I will be giving a job description, the required education for this career. Talking about the projected job market for this career over next 10 years. Which school I plan to attend for program, my personal interest in this program. Discussing some possible different career paths.

My passion for healthcare cultivated because of my family. Throughout my childhood and adolescent years, I got an opportunity to volunteer helping around the nursing home where my mother worked as a licensed practical nurse. Looking back, on those experiences influenced my entire career in so many diverse ways. Learning ample amounts of wisdom from various honorable people. As a child I was always trying to help my mother, grandmother, aunts, my church take care of others in our family and the community. Once I graduated from high school I did not know if I was prepared for college. Likewise, I was not sure if I wanted to become a registered nurse and follow my mother’s footsteps. However, I did attend a technical training school and became a certified nursing assistant in 2005. During my five year gap year, I conducted research on several different areas and aspects of healthcare. Over the course of ten years I have had the opportunity to experience different segments of healthcare. From the different settings of healthcare, exploring different business opportunities offered in healthcare, and educational and technical skill trainings. These three topics really influenced my decision to pursue a healthcare career.

I think I deserve The Wright Health Partners Health Careers Academy Scholarship because all my life I have always wanted to be a certified nurse assistant. I dropped out of high school and never got the opportunity to finish high school or even get to go to post secondary school education, because I got pregnant with my first child. I never really got the chance to further my education like I wanted. I have worked as a housekeeper to support my family. My professional goals that I want to achieve in these two years are: I would like to get my Certified Nurse Assistant certification. After completing the course and getting experience as a Certified Nurse Assistant, I would like to go back to school to study in the medical field as a Registered Nurse. Finishing nursing school would have to be one of my main goals being accomplished. I hope that my

Many things will change in fifteen years. For example, technology will innovate people will grow, we would have made new discoveries, and I will be older. However, I am only 13 years old right now. I live in Tucson, Arizona with my family of seven people. I am a quiet, friendly, and hardworking person. I enjoy reading, listening to music, solving brain teasers, being active, and occasionally writing stories. I do not enjoy waking up early, hurting anyone’s feelings, and sometimes public speaking. I am very good at memorizing and learning things quickly. I can also play piano fairly well, but I prefer to be even better. This is who I am now, but my personality may become different as I get older.

I am Madison Jakob. I grew up in a small family, that consisted of my mom and brother. My mom is a single parent who raised me and my brother alone, for most of our lives. I always looked up to my mom, she works at a hospital and as a kid when my mom would get home i would always ask her about her day and all the exciting thing she experienced throughout the day. As i got older the more she would tell me all the gruesome and sad stories. She influenced by decision of wanting to become a ER nurse.

The committee should choose me for the reason that I will be diligent and study earnestly for that spot. What I can offer to the program includes my distinguishable qualities such as empathy, calmness, decisiveness, and critical thinking. The reason I chose to major in Nursing is for my passion for working in the medical field and impacting people lives. I would like to believe if given the opportunity to be in the nursing program; I will complete the tasks that are required of me for myself and my family’s sake. Another essential point is that I am a first generation college student, I struggled both academically and emotionally during my first year at Commerce. However, with my determination paired with dedication, I confronted various obstacles and prevailed to achieve the necessary grades.

Why a nurse? As a little kid, I wondered what would be my purpose in life. As a fourth-grader, I care for all animals (large and small) and thought that, maybe, dog breeding was my future calling. For multiple reasons, this was not the right path for me.

I believe that nursing is both and art and a science consisting of psychosocial and biological sciences that work together to continually improve the health care field. I believe that with the knowledge and clinical experience from the TVCC ADN program I will be able to provide the best care possible to the people in the community. As a nurse it is important to carry the attributes of being caring, compassionate, understanding, non judgmental, realistic, open-minded, honest, ethical, and moral. I also feel that it is important to maintain sensitivity to all cultures when providing care.

I was always undecided regarding the career that I wanted to pursue. As I got older and looked at many choices in careers I realized that I wanted to have a career in the medical field. Being a nurse interests me because it requires the study of the human body along with other great opportunities that nurses have in this career. I want to become a nurse because I like being able to help those who are in need.

Ive always wanted a rewarding career that revolved around helping people. I want to pursue a career as a nurse practitioner. I am not sure on what specialty I want. So given a assignment in my Introduction Health Sciences class where I have to shadow a nurse practitioner, it gives me the opportunity to explore a specialty and see what it really is like in their typical work day. An advanced practice registered nurse, by the name of Mary Carlson at Parkland Medical Center was willing to let me shadow her for a day. Carlson graduated with her BSN from Boston College. She then pursued a graduate degree from Boston University. Her official title is, Nurse Practitioner, Emergency Medicine.

Do you like helping people? I’ve always had a passion for helping people and being in the field of medicine at a young age. Being a nurse gives me a chance to potentially save a life. This profession will also help me become financially stable in my life and give me a chance to learn exciting new things. All of this will motivate me to achieve my goal of becoming the best nurse I can be.

Registered nursing is among the top 10 occupations with the largest job growth’’ according to The Bureau of Statistics but why? Registered nursing is all over the world. In every hospital you will find many registered nurses because it is a good career to get into. A job industry that will never run out of jobs is the heath industry because everyone in the world needs health care treatment. Students should look into healthcare careers id they want a successful life and career. Registered nursing need dedication although it does not take such a long time to complete this career it has its rewards in its outcomes.
