I am rarely daunted. Some are intimidated by my independence. My desire to challenge myself is where I find myself thriving the most. I enjoy a challenge and rise to the occasion. Studying abroad will challenge me in a way I have never experienced before. I will gain a new sense of self-confidence and self-awareness by living and studying in Europe. I will be forced to grow academically, professionally, and personally in ways that are unable to be learned at The University of Michigan. Different styles of teaching will develop a more holistic understanding of the communications field which will deepen my understanding of my major and provide an invaluable resource as I head into my professional career in advertising. Professionally, I will
Former baseball player Tommy Lasorda once said, “The difference between the impossible and the possible lies in a person’s determination.” The journey of our life is full of winding paths and concrete obstacles whose sole goal is to slow us down, and to attempt to block us from reaching our ultimate goal in life, whatever that may be. These barriers are there for several different reasons, whether it be mental or physical. Sometimes these obstacles are motivated by fear, other times they exist simply because we have to make a decision, and that decision can be life changing. But through our determination, and through our perseverance, we can achieve what these barriers told us was impossible, and can pursue the path in our life that leads us to our ultimate self. Throughout my life, I have had thousands of barriers stand in my path. And the only way I was able to defeat them was through conquering my fears, and breaking my limits in order to achieve excellence.
Each individual is created to live their life uniquely. Each person has their own beliefs and opinions. They shape how one perceives others and how one affects others whether it be personally, locally, or globally.
Riding a unicycle is probably pretty interesting. I originally wanted my parents to get me a pogo stick for christmas because they never got me one when i was little, but they couldn’t find an adult sized one in their budget. So they figured something else that is equally strange would suffice, and it really seemed to fit my personality. The reason I started my essay with a reference to my unicycle is because it shows some good aspects of my character. Since riding a unicycle took multiple months for me to master, it shows that I am persistent, even if I fall a few times. Though riding a unicycle is interesting and fun, it’s not my main priority. I’m extremely passionate for film and theatre, and there are a few things about me that really do a fantastic job at getting me ready for a career in acting.
I am not the average person coming out from Alief, Texas. I grow up in the gang infested neighborhood that I called home the leawood apartments after living with my father for three years me and my older brother moved in with my mother and little sister in leawood we started by living in a one bedroom apartment. When we moved into the two bedroom apartment I shared a room with my older brother while my sister shared one with my mother.
“Creativity is contagious, pass it on.” Albert Einstein, famous physicist, had once said this. It’s true, as when others are producing ideas or creating solutions to things, you in turn start to think of your own. Yet, a lot of the times when I think of this statement, it reminds me of myself and art. In my free time, I love to look at other’s art and see their reasoning behind the picture – and then find myself start drawing the next second, feeling inspired by that particular artists reasoning. Every day if I can, I’ll look at all sorts of works by artists – sculptures, paintings, sometimes even dolls! Weirdly, I find myself always going back to the simple drawings on a paper and then making a few drawings of my own. Thus bringing a
I think that makes me stand out the most amongst my peers is how determined I am. My life hasn’t been easy to begin with. Both my parents passed away by the time I was ten years old and I began supporting myself at the age of 16. When I started college, it was a tough transition for me. While most students my age were having fun and enjoying being away from their parents the first time, I moved myself down to Pullman and started work the same day.
I’m worn out. You know those days when you pushed yourself too hard. You know those days when you think you pulled a muscle, because you’re sore to the inner bone. You know those days when you forget to stretch before you run. Well, today is one of them. I got up and realised that my leg hurt really bad, but no amount of stretching could help it. I sat down and my leg feels like someone just cut it off. I sit there in agony, I’m worn out.
I was born on September the 7th of 1994 in the San Francisco Bay area, not very far from Silicon Valley. The year I was born President Bill Clinton signed the North American Free Trade agreement with Mexico and Canada which helped to stimulate economic growth about twenty years ago. Living in California made my Dad the open-minded liberal that he is today, and because of his love for discussing politics I was raised listening to him have friendly debates with my very republican grandpa over every economic issue from climate change to healthcare. For about a year and a half after I was born my parents, older brother Daniel, golden retriever sandy, and I all lived in a classic colonial style home just south of Santa Clara Valley. My father was the breadwinner in our family working as an engineer for Portola Packaging. A job he was offered not long after graduation from a small private engineering school in upstate New York called Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. My mother also worked full time but as a loan underwriter. After being offered a great relocation package by Portola to the east coast my parents quickly decided to pack up our house and move to Pittsburg Pennsylvania. In addition to being closer to our extended families they also believed that raising a family in Pennsylvania was far
My creativity can best be described as experimental. This is evident in everything I do creatively. My paintings often delve into abstraction, I enjoy the fiddling with eclectic sounds of mixed meter music, and my inspiration is the playwright Samuel Beckett. Because of my style of creativity, this causes me to see concepts and ideas in a differently than other people would. I try to think critically about everything I do: what the motivation is behind different actions, why things have to be the way they are and how they could be different.
Who am I personally, after 50 years of being me, I am still a work in progress. I grew up in a tiny ski resort town, on the Appalachian Mountains, in New Jersey. My father grew up in New Jersey, but my mother is from Havana Cuba. My father never graduated from High School, but my mother did. They did not believe in higher education, especial for girls. They wanted us to get married and start a family, I always knew that was not for me. So I followed my dreams and traveled the world. Meeting exciting, educated people all along the way, my travels showed me all the things that I had been missing out on living in a tiny town. By traveling, I learned how to live independently, be frugal, and enjoy life, that is what made me a strong woman. My weakness is, that I wear my heart on my sleeve, I am temperamental, and no confidant.
Born in a country where education is poor, life is hard, and opportunities are very rare, I was fortunate to come with my family to the U.S in search for a better future. I was only eight years of age when my family had to go through much hardship in order to bring my brother and I to this country. My good fortune was accompanied by many challenges such as learning English, getting to know a wide variety of diverse people and adapting to my new environment. It was a hard beginning for me, making it difficult to find the road I was looking for. The people that really support me in every struggle I have experienced ever since I was born are my parents who were and continue to be my biggest influence. I am blessed to have such a supportive and
The pursuit of attending college has been a personal desire and goal for as long as I can remember. While maintaining a rigorous academic course load, I also had a passion for excelling in my music endeavors. My superior GPA and yearly testing scores broadened my career choices but made it difficult to discern whether I wanted to pursue something in the field of medicine, education, or music. The academics, experiences, and activities that I have been involved with throughout my life, definitely have shaped and encouraged me to think deeper about what it is that I would truly love to excel in on the college level and pursue as a life-long career.
Every individual choice made throughout someone's entire life ultimately come together to make up who they are. Personally the situations I have been in, the people around me, and the activities that I participate in have affected me the most. Since I was a small child, I have had a negative home experience overall. Through the challenges that have been placed before me, ranging from struggling with parents who are addicted to drugs to becoming adopted, I have never given up on the dreams I yearn to achieve. I have learned that with hard work and tolerance nothing is impossible. The determination to complete all that I intend to do has been one of my most prominent traits. Not only has this mindset allowed me to thrive in school, but in athletics as well. I have become more ambitious because of the competitions, and most importantly, more selfless because of the teamwork that is required to partake in the organization.
It`s strange the way we look back on the past. How we consider the advice we would tell our younger selves, `you`ll be okay,` or `he does not define you.` The idea most prominent in my mind was put forward by my father, `Life is all about taking chances.` The words seemed to ricochet off of me, as if his mouth was a gun and I was wearing a bullet proof vest.
Four years ago, as a freshman in highschool, attending a liberal arts school was not important to me or my aspirations. I just knew I wanted to go to a “good” college. I did not learn what liberal arts really was until I was a senior in high school, and even then, it did not play as much of role in my college decision process as it should have. To me, it just meant do I want to learn about more subjects, or just my area of study. I had this form or thinking just one year ago, but now, as a member of a liberal arts institution, I am finding a new appreciation for the importance of a liberal arts education in my life because of the society that we live in today.
