Leap of Fear Fears get in the way of people's lives. Les Brown was once quoted saying, “Too many of us are not living because we are living our fears.” Everyone deals with fears, it just comes down to how you handle them. The sun was shining through the sheer, transparent curtains in our condo room. I could hear a quiet murmur coming from the porch, knowing people had been up since six, drinking coffee and chatting. I got up and carefully folded the blanket I had been sleeping with. I walked into the kitchen. My aunt and my mom were sitting at the island, which took up the majority of the spacious kitchen. They each had a loaf of bread and were making turkey and ham sandwiches. I said hello and grabbed one of the pancakes in the middle of the island and tore a piece off and walked to my room. I knew were going out on the lake and grabbed a swim suit. After about an hour of packing everything we needed for a day of boating, we all squished into two cars and my sister and I climbed into the boat, which was being hauled behind my uncle's truck. “Ready to go,” my uncle shouted out the window from the front seat of the truck. “Yep,” my sister replied, as she sat down. The drive down to the lake was only about five minutes, but I enjoyed it. Sitting in the boat you got lots of airflow which felt good since it was almost …show more content…
Once the bottom of the boat was half emerged in the water, my uncle hopped out of the truck and started unhooking the boat from the trailer. When it was unhooked Cullen, my cousin, started the boat and we backed into the water. We glided across the water. The water near the boat looked pink because the red color of the boat was reflecting. We headed for the dock, so we could pick up everyone else. I dexterously tied the buoy to the handle in a tight triple knot and placed to over the edge, so while we were waiting the dock wouldn't scratch the
Fear is one of the most basic and vital aspects of human behavior. To our ancestors, it was often the only thing that kept them alive, but today, with less and less things in the natural world people have to be afraid of, it usually just keeps them from working towards their goals. Fear can prevent one from pursuing their dream in that it forces us to be afraid of the future and can act as a catalyst for people giving up.
“Though he was afraid, he now knew that fear came in many degrees and types and peculiar categories, and he knew that his fear now was not as bad as it had been in the hot afternoon, when poor Billy Boy Watkins got killed by a heart attack.” Fear comes in many levels, some of these levels are hard for people to endure without going crazy. This is one of the toughest topics to talk about, because no one wants to admit to being afraids. However, at one time or another people are scared of something and some people are frightened more often than others.
Fear. Fear never changes. I remember when it all started, it seemed like such an innocent joke and then when it spiraled out of control we kept going along with it, as if no one would notice that we were the one that pushed the wheels in motion. We tried to stop it, we really did, well I did anyway. But we are a cruel race, millennia of instinct is not wiped away by the advent of the modern era, hidden beneath our designer clothes still lies the visceral animal whose only goal is to survive. And in such instances where we are driven to look out for only ourselves the animal awakes. For what we did to that poor boy and the rest of that campus was nothing short of bestial.
The boat departed at thirteen hundred hours exactly. As I stepped onto the colorful, traditional Maldivian boat my thoughts began to run wild. As the boat began its thirty-minute course, I also began to think about all the things that could go wrong. For example, I began to think about how a great white shark would come up from the dark unknown and swallow me whole or bite my leg off. My thoughts were interrupted by the guide shouting,
As an early birthday gift, she had inherited her uncle’s 50ft sailboat and she was ready to take it into the gulf. Weather reports suggested clear skies for the next few days and Mia was eager to finally take control of the reigns and sail a boat on her own. Of course, her favorite person in the world would be accompanying her on this trip.
They say that there is nothing to fear but fear itself, yet I tend to disagree. Our world is packed full of things to be afraid of. As a child, we are afraid of the dark or monsters hiding underneath our beds; but, as we grow with wisdom and age, those fears become bigger and more worldly. We fear things like terrorism or illness. The fear that consumes me most is that my best might never be enough.
When you ask a person about fear, the shallowest answer you can get is the fear of cockroaches, spiders, rats, worms and loads more. But that’s not what I call the real fear. From what I’ve witnessed and experienced, there are two types of fear: The first one is the pesky fear, and the second is the treacherous fear, as mentioned. The pesky fear is the type that only bothers you for a short amount of time and won’t really stop you from completing progress. For example the ones stated above, fear of roaches and spiders and many more.
So about 1pm we got his 32 1/2 foot boat ready and got it off the boat lift and we cruised down the canal for a bit then we were at the river, then my grandpa asked me
It all started one morning around nine O clock. I got prepared for the long day ahead. First, I got breakfast from my mom. Then, I placed all of the rods and fishing tackle in the truck. My dad and I hooked the boat up together and headed off.
“Heck yeah! We’ve made it. All we need to do is find the boat.” Jim eagerly begins to look up and down the river. “ I think I see that ole abandoned sail boat! I remember parking just above it!”
Fears are natural, they are the bodies way of protecting someone from harm. For example, if someone is afraid of water, it is probably because he or she cannot swim and the brain is sending signals not to go into the water! Fear occurs in all stages of life. For example, a young child could be afraid of the dark because it may think there are monsters. As people get older they learn to have different fears.
Fear is an emotion produced by the brain to avoid a potentially bad situation or it is also anxiety caused by the presence of danger. Fear is caused by a threatening situation. Winston Churchill once said, “ The only thing we have to fear, is fear itself.” This famous saying shows that fear affects people as much as they let it affect them. The way I deal with my fears is to try to overcome them or not let them get to me. But it’s not always easy.
There is an important event that happens in every person’s life. That important event may be a number of things. Such as someone winning the lottery or even having a tragic loss in the family. My important event in life was the day I conquered my fear of heights. Everyone has some type of fear or phobia that absolutely petrifies them. Whether it’s a fear of snakes, swimming, or even germs, it can be conquered as I discovered.
An hour later my mom, sister, dad, and I were in the car with all our stuff in the trunk.
With the help of several fellow shipmates, we were able to time the waves just right and lift him from the fishing vessel to our CG boat. On the ride back to the station, where an ambulance was waiting to take the elderly man to the hospital, I continuously monitored his condition, checked his vitals, and made sure he was as comfortable as possible, all while the boat was getting tossed around by the waves. Though there was a language barrier, I made a conscious effort to constantly reassure the gentleman that he was going to be
