While at the American Academy of Religion conference in San Diego California last year, I attended an event for prospective students hosted by the Chicago School of Divinity entitled, “Coffee with the Dean.” There I met Margaret M. Mitchell the then Dean, and John Howell the Coordinator for Recruiting & Admissions, of the Chicago School of Divinity. After expressing my various research interests to Dean Mitchell, she said that my research interests were a perfect match with several professors at the Divinity School: Alireza Doostdar, Michael Sells, and James T. Robinson. After thorough research and visits to numerous religious studies programs, I am confident the Chicago School of Divinity is the best place for me to pursue my academic and professional goals. I am determined to become a stellar candidate for their program by enhancing my graduate school application. Strengthening my graduate school application entails taking more specialized courses in my fields of interest to demonstrate my engagement with contemporary …show more content…
I hit the intellectual apex and exhausted all resources offered at my undergraduate institution, I am now looking for rigorous training in an environment of self-motivated, independent thinking individuals that will continue to catalyze my intellectual growth. During my career as a Graduate Student at Large, I plan to take three to six courses chosen from the Divinity School, the department of Near Eastern Languages and Civilizations, and the Harris School of Public Policy. I am highly receptive to feedback and plan to be in close contact with the GSAL advising team for direction on class choices, unit load, and helpful resources offered by the university. Moreover, I hope to receive guidance on preparing my graduate school application to the master program at the Chicago school of Divinity, and to similar programs
Earning my undergraduate degree from Seattle University has opened a lot of doors and has expanded my ability to reflect on my life, my intellectual progress and my purpose to find direction. My persistence and determination to advance my education is to increase my knowledge, to become a successful leader and to enhance my contribution to society. In order for me to have a true academic rigor, I believe having the integrity of the Jesuit teaching could help me understand and guide me through the process. I have always found a personal and a professional sense of purpose from a Jesuit tradition.
My former position as the Woods College of Advancing Studies Manresa Experience Graduate Assistant at Boston College, included piloting a common formation experience program for non-traditional students. The program was aimed at providing non-traditional undergraduate students with the opportunity to engage in and foster their professional, personal, and spiritual discernment. The program was guided by three themes: What is my vocation, calling, and purpose? What does it mean to be a Boston College Student? How do we incorporate faith into our decisions? The overall hope for this program was to cultivate a sense belonging for Woods College students within the school itself and within the larger Boston College community.
Crossways our University Campus, Instruction Centers and online programs, our vast story of unity and prudent stewardship is uniquely woven into our academic curriculum. As location of their generic education set, all our undergraduate students occupy courses in establishment and belief, with no Religionist or Catholic-specific case requirements.
A true scholar is one who is able to extract from a learning experience, a holistic and well-rounded interpretation and a world view. Enrollment at GCU, presents the student with an opportunity to pursue that ideal. With the embodiment of the four pillars offered; “academic advancement, Christian camaraderie, extracurricular excellence and wellness and well-being”, (Grand Canyon University, n.d.), one is given the best opportunity to become an even more well-rounded individual. This is what makes the difference by comparison to a non-faith-based university; a belief and a system that operates on the premise that a “quality education coexists with faith in the 21st century” (Grand Canyon University, n.d.). Here, there is a focus on delving
Situated in the diverse city of Houston and the only Catholic university in the city, I believe that the University of St. Thomas will provide me with innumerable opportunities to study communications and psychology, as well as prepare me for graduate studies in dance movement therapy, which is my ultimate career goal. St. Thomas seems like a perfect fit for me, especially the smaller class sizes and the individualized attention students receive. I believe that I will be able to succeed there as a student, thriving alongside like-minded students and learning from intelligent professors. I particularly love St. Thomas because of it’s affiliation with the Roman Catholic Church, a religion I have actively been involved with my whole life. Growing up and in the Chicago area, I was privileged to attend a Catholic school. Faith, service, and life’s purpose are a few of the topics I enjoyed learning and discovering. Graduating
Attending graduate school can be is one of the most significant times of a person’s life. It is a time when God will begin revealing to you who he has called you to be. I believe that God has developed each person with innate skills and abilities. I believe that Christian based education and training will cultivate Gods calling for me, in and outside of the classroom. Attending a Christian based school
Fresno Pacific University would help me develop professionally and personally. By continuing my education at FPU’s biblical seminary, I would gain a deeper understanding and application of theology and psychology. FPU will provide me the knowledge and tools to further my career/goal of becoming a MFT. FPU offers a mixture of theology and psychology courses that suit my personal and professional goals. I am excited about the program’s integration of psychology, theology, and practicum courses that are offered. The availability of faculty and astonishing education that FPU offers is the reason I have chosen to apply to Fresno Pacific’s MFT program.
My academic expectations of Vanguard University, are to be taught how to pursue knowledge, grow in character, deepen and strengthen my personal faith, and be be equipped for a life that is Spirit-led and Christ-centered. The ability to think is powerful, and I am giving my education over to Vanguard’s hands. I need and expect Vanguard to teach me how to think in a way that helps me to glorify God in all that I do. To go even deeper, thinking well doesn’t simply benefit me, but the world as well. I expect Vanguard to teach how to live for purposes higher than my own self. I hope to not only grow in knowledge, but to open my mind to see more clearly, act more justly, and love much more deeply than I ever thought possible.

Our challenging curriculum combines the best contemporary learning models with a reflective spirituality that fosters students’ knowledge – both of the wider world and of themselves. Our location in the dynamic city of Boston plays a vital role in exposing students to a variety of experiences; our extensive Jesuit network expands their horizons across the globe.
The university is a liberal arts school, and displays those values abundantly through its professors, scholarships, and clubs. Washington University in St. Louis places great emphasis on studying abroad and pursuing in-depth research within one’s particular field of study. These two factors set the university apart from others. The diversity and inclusion of all types of students, regardless of religion, race, or ethnicity, is immensely appealing. There is no doubt one would receive an education of high regard from Washington University in St. Louis. However, some of the values Washington University in St. Louis upholds cannot be supported by one of the Christian faith. Although a degree from Washington University in St. Louis takes students to unbelievable levels of success, and provides opportunities students never would have obtained without attending Washington University in St. Louis, sometimes one must give up the influential name and high prestige for God’s greater plan. David Platt said, “Radical obedience to Christ is not easy... It's not comfort, not health, not wealth, and not prosperity in this world. Radical obedience to Christ risks losing all these things. But in the end, such risk finds its reward in Christ. And he is more than enough for us (David
I desire a collaborative and interdisciplinary program because I seek creative solutions to the challenges of our time. I want a flexible rigorous and intense intellectual environment because that energizes, challenges, and brings out the best in me. I see its programs, tremendous faculty resources, and intense intellectual culture as good fit for me. To be given the honor and privilege of studying at UChicago is a desired journey, which I hope to pass it forward in the future. A UChicago education will mold and set me up for success in accomplishing my career goals in teaching at higher education, making significant contributions in Hebrew Bible and Women’s studies, as well as the unfolding of slowly seeing my dreams of establishing a Divinity school, top university and community centers in the poorest areas of my nations a possibility.
Now, as I prepare to take the next step in my education, I am armed with the same readiness and excitement. As I seek an institution that is conducive to achieving my ongoing goals of academic growth and professional success, I look forward to bringing my talents and qualifications to my new graduate degree program. My research leads me to believe that the next important leap which I take will be elevated by admission to this institution, whose scholastic programs, campus community and qualified faculty appear to be a perfect match for my ambition.
