College Athletes Should be Paid
You have heard many people talk about their favorite college team for any sport and why they like them. While they get to enjoy the game, there are college athletes working to get through college and play a sport at the same time. They take on their schoolwork and are involved in the sport they take part in every day. I believe college athletes should be paid. Their sport is an everyday job. It keeps them busy giving them little time, compared to other students, to study. The scholarships they get for the sports only cover part of their college tuition, plus they hardly have any time to get a job to make money to provide for themselves.
These student athletes

They have to take the time out of their day every day to be involved in their sport, whether it is practice, weight lifting, or games. They need study time outside of practice so they can succeed in their classes. If they were to get a job, it would cut out of their everyday study time which would more than likely cause them to get bad grades in their class and keep them from playing their sport. Let’s say a student athlete gets a job, but they have to work late at night because a normal college athlete will condition or weight lift in the morning then go to class until about three or four pm, has practice, and sometimes a mandatory study hall. The athlete would go through the next day exhausted because they are up late at night working to make money so that they can provide for themselves. If these student athletes were to make money from their performance, other than scholarship money, they would have more time to study and be provided …show more content…
It would allow them to provide for themselves and teach them life lessons. Some athletic programs would not be able to afford to pay the student athlete, however. On the other hand, the NCAA and CBS signed a $10.8 billion television agreement, so they could find a way to help provide for the student athletes.
To bring it to a wrap, I believe that student athletes should be paid. They provide their fans entertainment and only get scholarships to provide for the basic subjects. They spend almost all their time involved in their sport they have little to no time to work, unless they do not mid being exhausted. The NCAA pays executives and coaches plenty and still have plenty to help provide for the college athletes. Student athletes have earned their positions to where they are and deserve to be taken well care
College athletes should not be paid to play the given sport they participate in. And as of right now, this statement stands true for the most part but is starting to become blurred and pushed extremely hard for. Over the years the NCAA and other organizations have had many conventions and uproars over the subject of whether or not college athletes should or should not be paid. The main two sports that this debate come up in are men's college basketball and college football, especially during march madness and the college football national championship. Now, I respect anyone who puts in the time, work, and excitement college athletics bring to the world or sports, but they should not be paid.
Many believe that college athletes should not be paid. The main debate against compensating college athletes is that they are at the university for educational purposes and playing sports is a benefit. The NCAA states, “Student-athletes are students first and athletes second. They are not university employees who are paid for their labor” (McCauley 10). Universities get all the financial benefits of the money earned from sports played from things such as team jerseys, sports passes and tickets, etc. Many argue that it is only fair to give a portion of the profit to the players that earned the money. It is very important when arguing for or against paying college athletes to not take into fairness, but to hold
I think that college athletes should get paid. They should get paid because they help their school make money from winning championships. They also help bring in more athletes to the school. The schools get money from people buying tickets to go to the games.
College Athletes should not be paid to play because the scholarship they are receiving is enough. (Dayton Daily News) College Athletes are not professional this is not their career .(Dayton Daily News) The statements are all very true but the college athletes are practicing the same amount of time as the professionals but they aren't getting paid anything for their hard work and dedication. College Athletes are the main ones that are on a trip out of town for tournaments, ect. So that means that they need traveling, eating, and extra expenses for their journey
I believe college athletes should be paid. College athletes need money for necessities such as food, clothing, and toiletry. The NCAA admits a “full scholarship” does not cover the basic necessities for a student-athlete therefore the student athlete would need money for other things. Student athletes need money because some students parents can’t afford to send their daughter/son money. “The national collegiate athletic association acknowledges that the amount provided in an athletic scholarship is not enough to provide for many things a typical college student needs.”(2, Geoff Griffon).
Should college athletes be paid? One side may disagree because college athletes receive scholarships that pay for most of their expenses. Student athletes would no longer be considered students but employees to their school (Williams). The universities would have to make major changes financially and possibly cut other sports teams. They also want to keep the players at an amateur status and not wanting all the money to go to their head (Mitchell).
In the past years college athletes have not been paid but college athletes should be paid considering they put so much of their time on sports, almost all students are in debt, and the everyday necessities that people need you can guarantee that most aren’t free. One reason that college students should be paid is because of all that money going into debt for college
Paying college athletes is a hot topic between members of the NCAA. With all the money that college sports brings in, some people say that these athletes should get a portion of the money. I do not believe that college athletes should be paid. They already have scholarships that pay for their schooling, and giving these athletes money would only cause them to get into more problems away from their sport.
Top collegiate athletes should be able to get paid. Schools are making millions in ticket sales, selling jerseys and other venues that help out of school. However, college athletes make all the money for the college. College athletes should deserve to to get paid. “The college sports industry generates $11 Billion in annual revenues.”(Text 1, line 1) the college sports industry generates so much money, that they need to share the money and that it's selfish. Scholarship athletes should be getting paid.
Paying college athletes would at least help the athletes leave college with a little bit of money to find them to find them a new
I strongly believe that college athletes shouldn’t get paid because a scholarship to a college to play for their team and a free education is enough payment. Student-athletes with full-ride scholarships don’t have to worry about student loans or any other debts they would have to pay back for attending that college.
College athletes should be paid because of the hard work, dedication and effort they put into their respective sports. These athletes are a major source of income for their schools and they are not receiving a penny for it. These college athletes deserved to be paid, colleges are using these athletes to get money and they are never given anything but a pat on the back and a good job. College athletes work and train extremely hard to perform at the highest level possible. In most cases, they spend more time training and preparing for their sport than they actually do learning and studying. They put so much on the line to play and they get nothing in return. These college athletes literally make their schools millions of dollars every
(Attention Getter) What if I told you that for decades, students have worked over 40 hours a week and received absolutely no pay. College athletes are expected to balance the immense workload of school work and represent their school well in athletics.
Many others believe that college students should be paid. Athletes bring their schools money (Nocera et al.1). Therefore, many believe that the students should get some of the money that they help bring in. Players are part of the labor source and get nothing. There is no other industry where labor gets nothing. (Nocera et al.1). It is only fair if athletes get paid too. Athletes work hard to do what they do but do not get
College athletes are finally getting attention on the fact that they are not paid. I believe that whether or not it is college or pro sports they deserve a salary. These players put their heart and soul on the field and get nothing in return. In the articles “Athletes New Day” by Paul Marx and “College Athletes Should Not Be Paid” by Warren Hartenstine, the reasons for college athletes to be paid are very evident. No matter the case, if the students move on to pro sports or not after college, they should be entitled to some pay for their contributions. College athletes deserve to be compensated for their playtime in these sports, sales of products with their name on it, and even compensation for their injuries.
