Right now in this society a college education is no longer an option but rather a necessity. The main reason why people go to college is not because they want to but because they have to. Most high school seniors are pressured by their guidance counselors and parents to go to college because it is "the right thing to do." This generation is practically raised to believe that one needs higher education in order to succeed in life. There is a saying that says "if you think education is expensive, try ignorance." Student loan debt often forces college graduates to live with their parents and delay marriage, financial independence, and other adult milestones. Being a college student is perhaps a more respectable role than being, for example, a janitor or a garbage man because of the negative connections those jobs receive but as technology is constantly advancing and computers are running almost anything, is a college education really necessary? It is also a gamble of not only the students money but the government 's money because if the student decides that the pressure is too much they might drop out. The stress that college puts on you to be as good as, or better than everyone else at that school. Suicide is the second highest cause of death from ages eighteen to twenty four. There are people who have never set foot in a college and are doing better than people who have their master 's degree. College is not a “get of jail free card” in other words it is not an automatic
