In 1926 the game of softball began in Chicago; therefore, the game has been wildly popular with women for a long time. Softball consists of two teams made of nine players working together to score runs. When your player is batting, you use the other teams errors to score points for your own team. Meanwhile, the other team is on the field avoiding errors, trying to get you out so that it can be their turn to score runs. I have been playing softball since I was in kindergarten and my father is the one who taught me how to be an asset to the team. Being` part of a winning softball team takes joint effort from everyone. To be successful at softball individually, players must first be able to swing a bat, stop a ground ball, and know how to throw …show more content…
You must first pick up the bat on the side with the grip and put their left hand over the right hand slightly touching the other with your knuckles almost lining up. After this step, you will raise the bat over their right shoulder with your elbows bent in acute angles. Your bat should be almost parallel to your body. The strike zone is the area you want to swing in, that area is below your nipple level and above your knees. If the pitcher throws what is going to be a strike you first want to take your left foot and slightly pick it up creating more momentum. As you are doing this you need to begin to swing the bat perpendicularly from your body, your right arm should be in a ‘L’ shape. As you are doing this take your right foot and bring it around as the rest of your body is coming around. Keep your toes planted in the dirt almost as if you are squishing a bug with your toe. Doing this will give your hit more power, just make sure you back shoulder does not dip lower than your front one does. When you make connection with the ball you break your wrists giving it an extra push of momentum. After you make connection with the ball you want to follow through, hitting your shoulder with the bat. If you are left handed you will want to do the opposite of these steps. Even though hitting is pivotal being a good player, one must also be able to stop a ground
Softball has always been my favorite sport. It’s the fast pace of my heart as I’m rounding the bases, fast as lightning, making contact with the corner of the grungy white bases with a heavy coat of red dirt layering the edges, prepared to dive into home base, the sound of the bat making solid compact with the bright, attention grabbing yellow ball, the smell of the dew delicately resting on the fields of green grass, giving everyone a relaxed feeling of being in nature.
The hands continue down towards the batter and the wrist flicks to ensure the proper rotation on the
Then you need to put 60-70% of your weight on your back foot. After you get your stance down, you need to actually swing. You need to take a small step with your lead foot, and make sure not to step too far. Now you need to swing your arms and make sure that your bottom arm is straight.
The object of softball is to score runs by hitting the ball and touching all the bases without being tagged or thrown out. Softball games last for seven innings. The pitcher will pitch to a batter until one of four things happens: The batter gets three strikes against him/her. A strike occurs when the batter swings at a pitch but misses it or hits it foul with less than two strikes against him/her, or when the pitch passes through the strike zone but the batter does not swing at it. The pitcher throws four "balls," which are pitches that fail to pass through the strike zone and which are not swung at by the batter. In this case the batter "walks," meaning he or she is awarded first base. The pitcher hits the batter with a pitch. In this case,
These four stages of hitting and these basic fundamentals will help you to have the perfect swing, but if you don’t want the perfect swing maybe one day you can teach them how to set a trigger, keep your laces to the ground, pull your shoulders and hands through, and finish strong. These stages are key to helping you teach or have the perfect hitting techniques. With these you will be able to have a perfect swing, but you also need to see the ball and know when to swing. I think that is a lesson for next
Also making sure you have a good grip on the baseball and placing your fingers on the “horseshoe” with both index fingers being perpendicular to one another
A baseball umpire, a former city manager, a sponsor of sports teams for all ages and a youth baseball coach have been inducted into the Rittman Recreation Center’s Sports & Leisure Hall of Fame.
But it is friendly competition that pushes each person to get better and be the best they can be as an individual player. Then the coach takes each players good qualities and puts them towards making the team better as a whole. That is their job as a coach. One coach that is currently my coach has a quote that he lives by, “the four most important things in softball are eyes, focus, confidence, and 110% till the end.” I am thankful for the coaches that I have had during this process.
Softball is a sport that is known throughout the United States and the world. Softball originated on Thanksgiving Day in Chicago in 1887. The game was actually said to have begun as an indoor game. Softball was started by a group of men who had gathered at a club to watch the Harvard vs. Yale football game. When the news came that Yale had defeated Harvard, 17-8, one Yale supporter, overcome with enthusiasm, picked up an old boxing glove and threw it at a nearby Harvard alumni, who promptly tried to hit it back with a stick. This gave George Hancock, a reporter for the Chicago Board of Trade, an idea. He suggested a game of indoor baseball. Naturally, Hancock's friends thought he was talking about playing a game outdoors, not indoors.
From your backswing, , rotate your torso and swing your arms toward the ball to make contact with the ball.
The day of my last softball game was the most terrifying day of my life. I have been playing softball for my whole life, Usually your last game is bittersweet and sad, mine was the complete opposite. One reason why the day of last softball game was absolutely horrid, was because it was the championship game and the whole game the score was back and forth, neither team could keep the lead.Another reason the day of my last softball game was extremly scary is because my dad who is the coach, randomly disappeared as well as my mother. The assistant coach came up in between innings and told the team that he would be taking over because my dad did not feel well. Next thing i noticed both my parents were gone, and i heard the fire truck and ambulance
As I started to grow as a player, I wanted to take my level of play to the next level. Making the transition from recreational ball, to highly competitive select softball came natural for me to compete against. I became more confident with the level of ball I was playing when I wanted to start doing something that many people couldn’t do. Something was different that I noticed was some players ran through the left side of the box while batting. That’s something that would make me unique, and I knew that this is something that I wanted to learn how to do. I asked my coach if I could learn how to slap and if it was the best thing for me to learn at the time. He explained how to bat like that to me, and gave me the confidence that I could do it. Learning something that is not normal and natural for you can be very challenging. I would look up videos on how to slap from how to do the footwork along with how to hit correctly. For many years, I would go to a private hitting instructor every week to work on my slapping. Gradually, I would improve my hitting stills from the practice I was putting in. Every game I had was an improvement, yet there were some bad days along with, whether it be I didn’t get a hit or striking out. Every game I would try to work on my placement on where I wanted to hit the
Softball for many people is the way of life, we eat, sleep, and play softball. Softball is a great sport for a lot of girls that want to be active and even stay out of trouble. Softball can be great for starting conversation because on the field you always have to talk, so your teammates now what is going on and where everyone is on the field. But when you play softball you always have a rush of enjoyment, and nerves.
A softball infield, being substantially smaller than a baseball infield, is 7,200 ft2 (Trifoso). This is a huge difficulty because the infielder has less time to react to the ball and get the batter out at first. An infielder in softball must get it to first base in 3.2 seconds, which is more than a second faster than a baseball infielder would (Trifoso). That is super strenuous to do because if you have one make one little mistake, the batter is safe at first.
Playing softball, you get fit. Being fit, makes people like their bodies, which makes people happier in general. When throwing the ball, you have to throw it harder than you would a baseball, which means you’re using more of your muscles than you would when throwing a baseball. As a result, your arms and body get toned, and running to catch the ball gets your legs worked out as well. When hitting the ball, you have
