Failure plays a vital role in developing a plan for success. There are many times in life where one must consider the reason behind a failure to prepare for a similar problem in the future. In my life, our high school football team has been well below par, winning only three games in two seasons. During my junior year, I, along with other upcoming seniors, pinpointed major areas for improvement within our program. This year, we have been fairly successful, and the team, the school, and most importantly, the community, have come together to bring "Lion Pride" back. Failure may feel like the end of the world, but learning from it can be a slingshot to success.
Having such a poor record my junior year, resulted in players feeling unable to win. Not achieving a goal can deflate a person, and deflated is certainly how we felt at the end of the season. Shortly after the season came to a close, our coach was fired from his position, which lead to more discomfort in our minds. We had no direction and felt belittled even further. A new coach had been hired, the school was getting a new practice facility for all sports, and things seemed to be going in the right direction. The seniors called a player meeting to identify problems within the program, to set goals for the upcoming season, and to formulate a plan to reach those goals. We learned from the previous years that poor workout attendance, failure to hold others accountable, and animosity between players were the main causes of failure. Consequently, we began to encourage all players to show up to practice and make sure their teammates were there, too.
