College Helps Students Dream Of More Than A Salary Summary

Many people believe that a college education is a worthy investment. The ability to become a college graduate will result in making more money. There are more jobs in today’s society that require college degrees. College graduates develop more and better employment opportunities within earning a degree. Self-discipline is a major element in becoming a successful graduate. Also, college graduates are healthier and live longer. Adults-young and old, male and female-who have a bachelor’s degree or higher have twice the annual median income than someone with only a high school degree ("Do college graduates," 2014).

The past has shown time and again that one who has been well educated succeeds in life. If a person attends college limitless doors will open for him or her because one has multiple possibilities in the career field. Since one has the qualifications, particular career options will continue to provide themselves. One will most likely be paid more money because one has a large wealth of knowledge, and have been professionally trained in certain areas of expertise. Financial success, excessive knowledge, and endless career possibilities are a few basic effects of a college education. If one has been trained correctly, life will provide a great deal of optimism, and one will most likely live an additionally comfortable monetarily savvy life.

In today's society a college degree will open the door to many job opportunities. The possibilities are endless compared to those presented with a high school diploma. College gives you a chance to show the world the best version of yourself. They give you the chance to get earn money for doing the thing you love. College degrees are the difference between living comfortably, or struggling paycheck to paycheck. I don't want to struggle, so this is why high school is just the beginning of my education. College also gives you the chance to meet new people from around the country. A lot can happen in fours years. Meeting and interacting with new people could open the door for new ways and passions for learning. The more I learn, the more I enrich my future

It carries on to things that will happen later in life and even after retirement. College allows students to be creative when making decisions in stressful situations. College graduates seem to be more sound in their work and they focus more on “intellectual growth...not all college students [focus] on career preparation” (Is College Worth it?). It is said that students will “grow personally and intellectually”(Is College Worth it?) throughout college. Critical thinking is gained and students learn great resources for more learning and for making choices in life or work. Students who are able to rely on education in their life rather than being ready for their career on “day one” proves to be more effective (Roth).College education not only makes career possible, it helps students find what they love and gives them the ability to keep learning and growing(Roth). Textbook knowledge is just a little piece of college, there is so much more to be learned from the experience then what people think. Most believe it is just textbook learning , hours of work , and struggle to pay tuition and books.College is not easy and is a struggle for many , but for those who are willing to push through it are grateful as well as successful. What do colleges provide for their students other than an increased education? Matthew Crawford, in an article written for New York Times Magazine, elaborates on what is the point of college: “If the goal is to earn a living, then, maybe it isn’t really true that 18-year-olds need to be imparted with a sense of panic about getting into college.” (Source A). This indicates that college does not help one find a career but rather does potentially only increase their education. Matthew also touches on the fact that we go through school, then to college, then rushed into a job. When does one get to go out in the real world and receive knowledge from experience? A survey of people who are eighteen years and older in source F provides us with the quantitative fact that: “For a young person to succeed in the world, 61% say a good work ethic is extremely important and 57% say the same about knowing how to get along with people. Just 42% say the same about a college education.” This knowledge is presented from people who have lived and have gone through real life experiences. It touches on the fact that a college education can’t teach us everything we need to learn in life, but that we have to live and learn ourselves.

College graduates tend to make more money than high school graduates. According to the Economic Policy Institute, “College graduates, on average, earned 56% more than high school grads in 2015” (Pay Gap Between…). Although, this stat might not be for everyone it is for the majority of people. Jobs tend to pay higher if the person has a college degree than if one did not. To be successful people might have to spend money to make money. If someone spends thousands for college for 4 plus years, but in return they are making 56% more money than a high school graduate in the long run it will be worth it. They will have a lot of debt and student loans to pay, but once they pay it off they will start catching up to high school graduate in profit quickly. Many jobs would rather have someone with a college degree than one with just a high school diploma. The stats prove that people tend to make more later on than someone who goes straight into the workforce.

The difference in pay per year between a person with just a high school degree and a person with a college degree is $17,500. You could buy some new cars for that much money! Not only would you be wealthier, you would also be much more likely to be wiser as well. Earning a degree provides one with new knowledge and information, it teaches them how to critically think and how to solve problems. A college degree also provides a sense of well-being and importance to the world. It also helps out with communicating at your job; with both your writing and your verbal. Firstly, some graduates go on to college with the expectation of endless parties and finally leaving their parents. In reality by the time those students head off, they get to experience real world issues and come out as mature young adults. This idea can be seen in Pew Social and Demographic Trends’ article Is College Worth It, it states that “College graduates place more emphasis on the intellectual growth; those who are not college graduates place more emphasis on career preparation” (Pew). College not only expands the manner of thinking in a classroom environment but also in the way an adult thinks in real life situations.

When 35 percent of high school graduates are not going to college they are missing out on a big chance. College graduates are thought of to have a much better life than those who just got a job straight out of high school. Now more than ever more and more jobs are requiring college degrees. College graduates have a better lifestyle in form of wealth. College graduates also live a healthier life and live longer. Collegeeducation.com States that college graduates will live on average about 5 or 6 years longer than just high school graduates.

“Their is no elevator to success.You have to take the stairs”- Anonymous. This quote means that you have to work hard to be successful in life it doesn't come easy to anyone. College is an important aspect to my life because i want to succeed and with the help of your parents and their support you can and will achieve that. College gives everyone something to look forward to after high school instead of having to work minimum wage jobs. Also you can earn more money getting a college diploma rather than just having your high school diploma. A college education ensures a higher chance of being employed.

As the chapter’s name is the rewards of college, while reading the chapter, I thought about why I came college and what can I earn from college. I came to college to have more opportunities in my life. As book showing, people who attended college has higher employment rates and higher incomes. This data shows employers are seeking higher people who have higher education. It means people who attended in college have more options and better rights of choice for their future. As of recently, the validity of college has been questioned, is it really necessary to have a college education to be successful? In the past, education was the key to a successful life with a career. However, as of recently, some people don’t even have to earn the much coveted bachelor’s degree to make as much money as a person that went to school to earn such degree.
