The term "colonia," in Spanish means a community or neighborhood. In Texas the Office of the Secretary of State defines a "colonia" as a residential area along the Texas-Mexico border that may not have some or most of the basic living necessities. With that in mind, a colonia means that the citizens may not have things such as potable water and sewer systems, electricity, paved roads, and safe and sanitary housing. Today in Texas, over 1500 colonias in the counties along the Mexican border are home to about 400,000 people. Again, they are often lacking basic services, such as the electricity, water and sewerage, fire protection, policing, schools, and health care, these unstable areas offer the only low-cost housing available to usually and …show more content…
I believe that if the city is able to go in and reconstruct piping for the colonia community then that could and can fix the sewer and water problem. I understand that it takes money for things to take place and it would take an extensive amount of money to fix the colonia’s problems but if this is a must for the sake of the communities then I feel like there should not be any arguments as to why they should not help out. When it comes to the housing as well, I personally think that the people who live in the colonia communities feel like the more upscale citizens do not care about them. In some cases that may be true but not all people are mean and cruel and I feel like the counties should set up communities dates so that way we can volunteer to help out with reconstructing and making their homes and surrounding environments a better place for them. The colonias are unfortunately dirty, and dysfunctional areas to live in and a lot of action needs to be taken into consideration if things are going to change in those areas and I feel like the state should step up a bit more and try to do a bit more for the people who live
To fix this issue, I feel the City of Tampa should be more honest, understanding and be more benevolent of its people. The people built this city and they do not have a say in what the government plan to do. The people should have more rights to have control over our communities. The people should matter the most, not making money. The Citizens should be happy, not the city of Tampa's pockets. Traditions and culture of the people should be more important to the City than expanding and increasing cash. The City supposed to cherish Tradition and culture of the people, because it's what make us Americans. The citizens of Tampa, should take to the city of Tampa and community's

Colonias in Texas has always been a problem that isn’t brought up or resolved over the years. Much like anything having to do with poverty stricken neighborhoods and the government it is ignored and moved to the bottom of the priority list. It is important to understand the meaning of a Colonia. A colonia is a Spanish term used to describe a neighborhood or community, but to the Office of the Secretary of State a "colonia" is a residential area along the Texas-Mexico border that may lack some of the most basic living necessities, such as potable water and sewer systems, electricity, paved roads, and safe and sanitary housing.
Mi Ranchito is a cocina and cantina serving up Mexicana cuisine with more than a decade of loyal clientele. With a passion for freshness, each dish goes from the kitchen to the table immediately. The appetizers are all made from scratch and include such popular favorites as espinaca cheese dip, carne asada quesadilla, fresh guacamole, stuffed fried avocado and Cancun chicken. The burritos are a popular menu item at Mi Ranchito as they are made with fresh made flour tortillas and plenty of filling options to choose from.
Bean historically have been, and still are in many parts of the world, an important part of the human diet (Levetin & McMahon, 2012). This is because of the high protein content, which is a supplement to many diets around the world, especially in places where meat is too expensive to consume regularly. A culture where this has been true throughout history, and is still true today, is in Costa Rica. In Costa Rica, one of the most widely consumed dished Gallo Pinto (Nalley, 2011). This dish is a mixture of rice and beans, and has been a staple in the Costa Rican diet.

This article was a little depressing to read because it showed that the African American community is being torn left to right for the BART transportation system, or that they are being moved from one development place to another. The role of the government did not help their case either because the government spends so much rebuilding the homes or as a result the middle class and not the lower class could only afford the homes they build like they intended. To support her claims the authors use numbers and statistics that are available through some of the government programs. There were discriminations towards the African American because of their income status/skin color and a result their opinion did not matter. Then I started questioning the government and the planner roles in the city. The only people who are going to know what is best for their community is the people that live there. The government and the city planners think that they know what is going but in reality they don’t because they are not experienced in the community. So then is it not better to let the people voice their opinion on what they need and the government and city planners work around
The Capraras were an Italian family, friends of the Marks’s. Mr. and Mrs. Caprara had each lost a brother in World War II and like so many others, they were particularly sensitive about the war. The American people did not really understand why their sons were forced to fight in a war which was not their own and which they were not winning conclusively, to “fight against Communism”, when it was obvious that in the end they would have to withdraw, which in fact occurred years later, during the government of President Nixon. Even though the war acted as a bond between generations—as I was told by Mr. Caprara, who had been the driver of a general in wartime, and when peace came had given the general a job in his thriving business—American society
Anacaona was a queen, an Arawak Indian, but all of this was taken away from her when the Spaniards arrived looking for gold. Anacaona was one of the Spaniards first victims, “she was raped and killed and her village pillaged” (Danticat, 23). Anacaona represents all the grandmothers, mothers, and granddaughters of Haiti who have been victimized, abused, raped, and murdered.
– Talavera is not necessarily a physical object, it is more of a unique artwork that can vary by each family. Talavera is very complex artwork that takes a lot of dedication and time to make and paint. It all begins with recollecting clay that is found in this area which limits where talavera can be produced, and because talavera is not an actual physical object you are not limited on what you can create. Typically, most objects that are produced and then decorated are mugs and plates. But if you were to travel and see the city of Puebla you can see building that are decorated in talavera artwork, which gives it a unique implementation that cannot be seen anywhere else. This art is not only unique, it also give the artist a form of identification
Pets, most of America has a lovely animal they like to call their own. In my case, I have a wonderful chihuahua named Pinto. Though he can be a pain in my butt most of the time, he’s still my little boy. The nice thing about Pinto is that he’s very cuddly. If you’re just chilling on the couch he’ll come up to you and snuggle right up next to you. It can be a pain sometimes if you’re trying to sleep and he just gets all up in your personal space and steps all over you. Pinto also likes to bark, a lot. He doesn’t need a reason he just does it.
This is what tax dollars should be used for, improvements for the city and all the people of the city, not just
I think that the Incas were the best civilization because they invented many useful things, they were very clever, and they had many achievements. The Incas were talented in many skills and paved the way into the future. They created things that started us into what we are today, the others, not so much. First, the Aztecs. They were more of a warrior civilization.
families are home less until they get their home fixed other people don't even help them they ignore them I think that is rude because if it was a nice person they would help and give them at least a dollar for some food. Others moved and let the workers do the hard work. In my opinion I think they should at least help them and do some work too. Most of the community help pick up the trash so they can finish faster and the state is not so polluted. I started to understand that it's hard for families with their children because their children can get sick or die because all bacteria on the floor and in the air. It is sad when earthquakes happen because 10,000 usually
