On April 20, 1999, the unimaginable occurred at Columbine High School in the small town of Littleton, Colorado. On Tuesday, April 20 1999, Columbine High School located in Columbine Colorado an unfortunate massacre happened and many teens lost their lives. The two students responsible for this incident were Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold. These two senior students were responsible for killing twelve students and one teacher; they were also responsible for injuring an additional twenty one students on their rampage. A few other students were injured while trying to escape the school. Columbine is considered the fourth deadliest school massacre in history. It was said to be that there was not one target but everyone was a target on Eric and Dylan’s rampage through the high school

The psychological approach is made up of many theories. The social learning theory, the social control theory, and the social identity theory. They all apply to The Columbine Shooting. According to Ronald L. Akers and Robert L. Burgess’s Social learning theory differential association is learned criminal behavior. Criminal behavior is often learned from interacting with certain social groups in person or via the internet. Criminal behavior is easily learned by individuals being introduced to techniques of committing the crime and specific direction of motives, drives, rationalizations, and attitudes. Dave Cullen’s purpose in writing Columbine is to expose the truth about the killers. Dave Cullen exposes Dylan Klebold and Eric Harris the Columbine shooters; everything from their extensive planning, their motives, and the harrowing results of the massacre are revealed throughout Columbine.

April 20, 1999, is a day of remembrance for many people. The Columbine massacre had an effect not only on the Littleton, Colorado community but also on the entire country. In the book Columbine by Dave Cullen, the author tells the story of the tragedy that started with Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold. The book begins with an introduction into both Eric and Dylan's thoughts, actions, and reasoning behind their plan to attack their high school. Throughout the book the author points out how the media gave a different view for the motives of the attack which caused false accusations towards the killers. This book tells the truth told from survivors and evidence, but the honest truth behind the attack went to the grave with Eric and

Through the narration of the encounter between Patti Nielson and the shooters during the beginning moments of the Columbine shooting in chapter 11 of Columbine, a memoir, Dave Cullen adopts an informative tone in order to focus young adults’ attention to the ruthlessness of the Columbine shooting.

Parents of the kids who were killed in the shooting were upset and fuming at the same time. When parents of the passed were allowed to pay respects to their children, Brian Rohrbough was almost censored when he called Columbine School District “godless” and ended with a bible verse, Isaiah 48:22, saying “There is no peace for the wicked”. This book shows the plan, execution and aftermath of the Columbine School Shooting, and shows the lasting effects, both physical and emotional, an event such as this can have on a group of human beings.

Will there ever be an end to gun violence? Bowling for Columbine is a documentary by Michael Moore that demonstrates how gun violence is transforming America into a dangerous country. Michael Moore plays with the emotions of the American public by centering his documentary on the tragedy of Columbine. He explores the reasons as to why gun violence is at an all time high in America by listing his ideas in a personal way rather than being professional like in most documentaries. However, the way that he directs his film captured my attention and made me question as to why there is so much gun violence in America.

While both Michael Moore as well as John Stossel made compelling arguments, both were filled with flaws, however, I believe Michael Moore made the more compelling argument. Michael Moore in his film Bowling for Columbine was analyzing why the gun crime rate in the United States is much higher than other industrialized countries and he primarily focuses on Canada. Before establishing this relationship between the US and Canada he does this by addressing some common misconceptions that people believe lead to an increased amount of gun violence. These include access to violent video games, a history of violence as well as heavy metal music such as Marylyn Manson. Most people would shrug these off as not having to deal with gun violence but Michael

School violence, is an issue that is hard to deal with. There are things that may be done to decrease it but it does not seem like it will ever go away. Parents send their children to school to learn, to have fun, to pass notes, and to meet new people, not to be shot at and never have the chance to come home ever again. They should not have to think or be afraid of sending their child to school and never seeing them. Last year one of the worst school shootings took place at Columbine High School. Not only did it effect the famlies of the victims and of the killers, pretty much the whole nation was involved and many people were brought in to figure out what had happened, and why it happened. The subject of student rights has caused a lot of confusion and anger for decades now. There are two different sides that everyone seems to fall into. Some people want the constitutional rights of students to be fully protected within the school. The other side believes that, as a public institution, schools should regulate what is said or done by students to protect everyone involved. This is where it gets confusing, because it is hard to draw the line between what is allowed or not. The three most interesting topics that I chose to cover are a student’s right to free speech, religion within the school and student privacy.

Within the movie Bowling for Columbine, creator Michael Moore expands your thoughts and fears of violence. He presents the fear of the United States as being a violent country that is full of citizens idolizing incompetent idols. While watching the film, it is evident that he introduces many themes and characters to prove the aggression and terror. When is a child too young to understand the meaning and consequences of death? Moore shows reports of people saying the details including why they think the acts where committed with many circumstances.
