Coming Of Age In The Odyssey

Homers “The Odyssey” opens with Odysseus lost at sea after the Trojan War. The goddess Athena goes to Odysseus’ home, which is plagued with suitors, to tell his son, Telemachus, Odysseus isn’t dead. She tells Telemachus to kick the suits out, and sends him on a quest. Kicking the suitors out proves to be a hard task for Telemachus, but he is now the man of the house and needs to take care of it. Telemachus grew up without his father so he is not as mature as he should be. He even has doubts about whether or not he is truly the son of Odysseus. Then she convinces him to go off to sea to find and talk to people who might know about his father, which he felt shy about because of his age. I believe these first 6 books seem to have a coming of age
