Cold, dark, lonely. These are all words Gary Paulsen uses, in his book “Dogsong”,to describe the unforgiving wilderness of the arctic. Russell, the main character of this book, uses the frozen wasteland to his advantage and sees it as a getaway from all the troubles of the village. He meets with an elder named Oogruk that advises him in the ways of the past. I really enjoyed reading this book because it was very well written and was exciting throughout the entire book. This is probably one of the best novels I have ever read. It was always exciting with very few pages that didn't make you want to keep reading. The author was very good at keeping you involved with the book no matter which part you were reading. I really liked the way the author wrote this book. He had a very good way of making the story interesting to read as well as making it easy to understand. His word choice was impressive and he described things with such detail that when you read through it you knew exactly what he was talking about. It put a vision of the book in your head. …show more content…
The well thought out settings of this book combined with the author’s amazing word choice made you feel like you were with the character in the same place and at the same time. Some parts of the book were set within a village and other parts were set out in the wilderness. Both of these main settings were well described and you could always tell what part of the day the characters were in. The setting of the book was able to not only support, but improved the plot. If you noticed it was nighttime then you could tell that the plot was going to be different than what you originally thought it was. When the author wanted you to feel like time slowed down, he made things seem slower, when he wanted it faster, he made it seem faster. I couldn't find anything in the setting of this book that Gary Paulsen did
enjoyed the plot of the book. I also chose the book because it was the only book that seemed most interesting.
This book is a very good book. It is not one of my favorite books, but it is in, or somewhat close to, the top ten list. It has an intriguing story and has some humor in it to make sure that it isn’t all mellow.
I put this book on my long list of books to read but didn’t expect to get to it for a while. When the opportunity came up to read the book and have it count for a class, I made my decision right away.
Lastly, this story had a lot of good points in it, including the different points of view and storylines within the characters, which I really enjoyed getting to read. Personally, I would recommend this book if you like a mystery that ends with a sort of happy ending with something you wouldn’t
As the overall book, I actually kind of liked it because it was kind of hard to understand because they couldn’t use “I” and I like challenges. They had to use “We” instead of using “I” to explain they self or the story. The book was okay as a whole but still kind of hard to understand I got kind of irritated after a while, while I was reading the book because of the way it was written.
But, the way the author used symbolism, foreshadowing, and relatable quotes stood out to me the most. When I was reading and even after, I found myself making connections and thinking deeper into the books
Another thing that I liked about the book is that at the beginning, the wake/vigil/funeral was so accurately described. Funerals are awkward, tiring, and numbing. Meursault
I, personally, loved the author's writing, although I did not really understand why she structured the book like so. With each chapter changing different perspectives and stories, it was kind of hard to remember which chapter went with another considering the chapters where out of order. With each story, I was a little annoyed that they just suddenly ended at the end of the chapter. It made me want to read more and more trying to find the next chapter that went with that person's story. It was also kind of difficult to connect the stories. Other than that, she did a marvelous job grabbing my attention. I loved the analogies that she included in the stories. For example, on page 216- 217, one of the mothers told her daughter about a turtle that eats her tears and then creates birds that laugh
This was another novel that I had been wanting to read for a long time, and I was glad to have an excuse to buy and read it.
It was really a joy reading it and experiencing the tolls of the tragedies on the narrator as I read. However, it was a very sad and moving story that would have you crying at parts and laughing out loud at others. I would suggest this book to anyone, as long as they enjoy books that might make them a bit emotional. Overall, I thought this was one of the best books I have ever read, just the story line was truly fantastic.
I really liked the book. It was very enjoyable to read. I would recommend it to my friends, because I think they
I did actually really like this book. I was not sure if I was going to enjoy it when the project was first assigned, but after reading for a while, I became really interested
In The Snow Child, by Eowyn Ivey, an Alaskan setting in the 1920’s contributes to the atmosphere of isolation, harsh conditions, and quiet.
I really enjoyed the book because I love reading very interesting and right at the
The book had a lot of hard times in the middle of the trouble like when the dome first came down the family's that had lost love ones. Page 80. A man had lost his wife from the dome coming down on the middle of the garden and right on her fingers. She could not get help because all the doctors where busy with other people in the time she died because lose of blood. In the beginning of the book junior went and killed Angie out of rage. Page 42. The people in the car wreck in the dome where running from the cops. Page 33. In the middle the people started to turn and kill for the resources to safe there live page 200. The people started to trust the people that they have never know before like the two people that showed up right before the pink stars. Page 333. I like the book because of the faith that they had to have to get through the hard times in dome. When they started to trust big Jim witch was not trusted with the Important thing for the dome. I like when they had to choose sides if they go with the two girls or not in the book. Page 350. I like the fact that they got out of the dome after a lot time of suffering and little resources to use. Page
