Communication is very important within health and social settings as it allows information to be understood clearing, reducing misinterpretations. This therefore can lead to the growth and development of the practice within health and social care. Communication within health and social care settings can be applied to the four theories of communication: humanistic, cognitive, behaviorists and psychoanalytical.
The humanistic communication theory states how the meaning of behaviour is only understood through an individual’s perceptions and experiences. For instance, an individual’s judgements on what is normal is based on their own perceptions. This theory is thus person centered. This can be applied to health and social care settings as it can allow the service user or patient to understand their own personal views.
