Communism is a philosophy and form of government that has been used all over the world. It was created by Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels. For the most part it has failed to build stable and prosperous nations. What factors caused communism to fail? Can we identify those factors and avoid it entirely? We must try to, and preserve our successful form of government.
The creators of communism are Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels. Karl Marx was born on May 5, 1818 into a well off German family. He eventually attended university and this is when his interest and critique of religion and government began. The Communist Manifesto says that society is split into two rival camps Bourgeoisie and Proletariat. The Bourgeoisie were the ruling and powerful class that had apparently gained that power through several revolutions. The Bourgeoisie had apparently put a system in place which only valued self-interest and greed over its number of revolutions, "because the Bourgeoisie needs a constantly expanding market, it establishes connections all over the globe...it 'creates a world in its own image' " (The Communist Manifesto, n.d). The book ends its first chapter by stating that production and exchange are the basis of the Bourgeoisie's society and because of over-production it will turn on itself. The other half of society were the Proletarians, which the communist said they were. The communist's goal is the "formation of the proletariat into a class, overthrow of the bourgeoisie, conquest of political power by the proletariat." (Marx, 1884). One of the most important goals of the Communist League was to abolish the right to private property, it also points out that the workers do not get anything out of working, and what they do get is the Bourgeoisie's not theirs, in communist society labor will be done for the sake of the laborer (The Communist Manifesto, n.d).
