The mission statement is: “Improving the quality of life in Michigan by providing services to vulnerable children and adults that will strengthen the community and enable families and individuals to move toward independence.” (Michigan.gov) DHS provides an array of services to individuals and families, these include: food assistance, cash assistance, health care assistance, children services, adult services, and many more.

South Metro Human Services is a community center is a non profit organization in Saint Paul Minnesota that has been established since 1987 but was founded a year earlier. (South Metro Human Services, 2015). This agency assists with treatment centers, job readiness, mental health counseling for children and adults, DBT(Dialectical Behavioral Therapy), CADI waiver program for adults and children. All these services assist the individuals that come to this community center with the tools to be effective in their community as well in their personal lives.

Interventions are widely used in all areas of Human Services to assist those in need meet their goals of self sufficiency. Some common interventions include reframing, the process of helping someone see a situation in another perspective, and Task-Centered Approach, the process of breaking down the problem into smaller and more manageable goals, that eventually lead to solving the original problem. Determining which intervention to use widely depends upon multiple variables such as; the problem the client is currently facing, their current emotional status, whether they have a support network or not, and their current use of coping skills. If some of the above variables are missing, it has been common practice to address these issues prior to using interventions to address the problem.

The field of Human Services is strictly abroad. Human services approaches the objective of meeting human needs through an interdisciplinary knowledge base, focusing on prevention as well as remediation of problems. The Human Services profession provides many different types of helps; it could either be educational, psychiatric, and even financial if needed. There are many different fields when it comes to this profession. From education to a community planner, all these have to do with human services and helping people in need. Human services are mostly needed in low income areas do to people in need. Poverty calls for this types of services, do to people needing psychological treatment, education, community and many more. In this field it is very important that workers know how to handle their workers. As a professional in this job it is very common seeing outbreaks and different aggressive reactions towards workers and people around them. Workers required training in a new framework of skill that incorporates the profound changes shaping the field.

The Mississippi Department of Human Services (MDHS)- Division of Family and Children’s Service (DFCS) is an agency that serves and protect children and families from neglect, abuse, exploitation, and many more services. If clients desire Food Stamps and Families First they must apply for those services through Human Services. Like most government agencies the Department of Human Services structure is bureaucratic. The vertical structure is full of policies and procedures. When there is an issue that needs clarification there are manuals and bulletins to examine for a solution. Decisions are centralized to upper management positions. Lower level employees are not able to make decisions regarding the department without consent. Request must be sent up the chain of command before final decisions, such as procedures

The primary role of any functioning society It's to ensure its citizens have access to all the necessary tools to survive, strive, and make the community better as a whole, this concept should include but, not limited to the following : food, shelter, rights, duties, functioning justice system, access to education, jobs and, access to health care among many other primordial components to ensure a safe and healthy community and stronger society. In The United States of America citizens enjoy a system designed to care and protect the less privileged and the most vulnerable, and the dedicated people who are in charge of delivering this important life changing task are called Human Service Professionals.

The Human Services Organization I analyzed is New Beginnings. New Beginnings is an agency that provides sexual assault support services in Daviess, Hancock, Henderson, McLean, Ohio, Union, and Webster counties. The clients of this organization have all been affected by sexual assault or child sexual abuse. Issues within clients are best described as acute trauma responses or chronic trauma, such as sexual difficulties or loss of trust. In order to analyze this agency as efficiently as possible, I interviewed Terri Crowe, the Advocacy Coordinator, from New Beginnings.
