Long Island is one of the most diverse places to live in the United States. From Nassau to Suffolk County, you can see the different races of people populated in each town. Racially, the people who live in more white populated areas tend to have more opportunities than others in Hispanic or black populated areas. Sports are varied in each town. There are several conferences and divisions on Long Island based upon population and location. However, the higher conferences and divisions tend to include the towns of very high income and the white population. People from towns such as Huntington and Smithtown can give their children more opportunities. They are able to pay for AAU teams or 18U teams depending on the type of sport. It is harder for
Plus, some colleges offer easier courses to athletes, meaning their education
City Heights East is divided by many different ethnicities. There is 54.3% Hispanic, 20.9% Asian, 15% Black, 7.3% White, 2.2% mixed, and 0.3% other. With this data we can see that there is is range of different ethnicities and not one fully overrides other. This is a diverse community with some great cultures throughout. With this comes crime. With a total of about 30 assaults in the past year, there needs to be a sense of community rather than a sense of territory. Within this sections it will review the cost of living, the employment rates, the school’s, and the community organization. These are all important when looking at a specific crime and how to improve it within the community.
There are many differences between interscholastic and recreational sports programs. The first big difference is the affect that school work and grades affect your participation. In a recreational sports program, they are not looking at your grades to see if you are doing well enough to continue to play. Whereas with interscholastic sports you must maintain a certain GPA, you are required to attended class, along with other stipulations that they may have from a program. An athletic director is responsible for making sure that students that are participating in the interscholastic events are maintaining the requirements that they must meet. With the recreational sports program the athletic director most likely hires someone to organize the events and that’s about all the athletic does with recreational sports. Another difference between interscholastic and recreational is that some people who are participating in interscholastic sports are getting scholarships towards their education. Making sure that the students are following those specific guidelines to keep their scholarship is something that and athletic director must keep track of. With recreational sports an athletic director doesn’t have to worry at all about it. Overall an athletic director doesn’t have

Nutley, New Jersey is also a geographical community, where individuals share the common variable of location (Kirst-Ashman, 2011). The foundation of any food system includes natural resources and the knowledge and skill to manipulate them with technology and labor. The economic ability to apply each of these is also paramount to the functionality of that system. “Long Island’s unique ecological and socio-economic environments are the result of our region’s mix of topography, climate, land use, history, traditions, government policies, and economic practices.”(“LI Food System Report Card” 2014) Researching the deep history of this bioregion confirmed my suspicions that human impact poses the greatest strain on this food system.
No sports means they do not get the chance to get a full ride to collage. Some students depend on scholarships to get through collage because they do not have enough money to pay for it all. If the really smart kids cannot afford it then they cannot go and is a waste of good knowledge when they can play sports get it paid for and have a good life not working a Subway there whole entire life just trying to get by. If the young people of our town played sports they could get full rides from really good scholarships which can help them get very good jobs because they don’t have to pay for their
According to David Horton, Jr., a former student athlete, and now current assistant professor of Counseling and Higher Education, “Faculty to be actively involved in the athletic program and in the lives of the student athletes as tutors, advocates, and faculty representatives to the athletic department.” This basically states how schools encourage their faculty to be involved in the students’ lives and to help them be eligible to play their season. Also, department chairs have offered to change the timing of certain classes just to make sure the students could participate in both school and sport practices or games (Schneider 5). Schools are holding sports higher than they do academics by giving student athletes more of a lenient academic schedule just to help them perform better. They care more about the athletic part of them than the academic. With the school encouraging the faculty member to be involved in their lives, they start to show favoritism towards the student athletes. Stated by Ray G. Schneider, an associate Professor at Bowling Green State University, “Athlete favoritism amongst faculty is a concern that may compromise academic integrity.” They are favored for how much fame they bring to their school. If more people knew their name, they’d know the school.
Long Island’s rental housing market share remains around 20%, whereas the average share of rental housing in neighboring regions sit at around 33%. There is only a 4.3% rental vacancy rate due to the rental housing shortage. As a result of this weak rental housing market, Long Island, more than any other New York Region, has lost a greater share of its younger residents (18-34) at a deficit of 16% over the last 25 years. Many of the younger residents cannot afford to make a down payment on a home in this region. This is not to say that they are the only age group that rents, as nearly half of total renters in Long Island are over the age of 35. A quick ethnic breakdown of those who rent: 47% White, 30% Hispanic, 16% Black and 6% Asian. Rentals
Many problems going around about college sports and colleges athletes. Most colleges all over the nation allow the college to have sports but then there are some that don't. Being in a sport in college is just like basically having a job. You would need to be dedicated to this and not have much time for anything else. Practices can last anywhere from 4 to 6 hours a day just for one thing. Kind of crazy to think about something like this. Many people just simply don't have the time to do sports in college because they have a real job outside of school. This is different compared to high school because you would have time then and now you don't have much time for anything else at all. There are college athletes basically everywhere you go. Whether they play for universities or juts community colleges, it's all the same thing. The only big difference about this is the price differences. Universities are much more expensive then when playing for a community college so that's why people get scholarships.
The community that my group and I chose to assess was Fishtown. It is a small neighborhood compared to some of the others in Philadelphia but it comes with a lot to offer. On the outskirts of the neighborhood, specifically, along Girard Ave and Frankford Ave, there are a variety of businesses. The vast majority of the businesses in Fishtown are coffee shops, small restaurants, and bars. It also has butchers, boutiques and small thrift and antique store. As you go deeper into the neighborhood, you will find many families. Fishtown was always described as a working class neighborhood but the businesses in the earlier years where different.
In high school the athletes get special treatment. All the athletes that parents work at their school they get anything they want or let them do anything. The athletes get to leave class when they want and not get in trouble. They do not have to do homework and still make a higher grade than the other students that do not play sports. If they want to go practice during school some of the teachers let them go to the gym or outside to practice their sport. High school it trying
Growing up in Long Beach, CA 90804, there would be various ethnicities that were my neighbors. According to 2010 Census, Long Beach population consists of 40,311 people. Long Beach contains 38.6% of whites, 16.9% of blacks, 14.8% of Asians, and 37.8% of Hispanics, as we can see in Long Beach, Hispanics and whites make up a great percentage in the population and I think this is true. For example, in high school half the school consisted of whites and the rest were Hispanics, Asian, black, and others. Long Beach is a diverse city, but it can also depend exactly what part of Long Beach people live.
I will live in a place where "home" exists. Where my close family stay. A place where I can travel to rivers, mountains, oceans and the hustling city all that are within a short drive. Sports are universal and make up a good majority of kids’ extra-curricular involvement these days. As a person who has played sports for most of my life, I can definitely say that I enjoyed being a part of travel sports teams in the offseason. Whenever a person is passionate about something, they tend to work a little harder, succeed more often and reach the goals they set for themselves; travel sports allow for this. They allow you to work on your skills and athletics outside of your regular season, but also allow you to have fun while doing it. Sports were made for two types of people: the people that enjoy sports just for the exercise, social aspect and having fun, and the people who are competitive, have a driven passion and want to continue with their sport into the future. After reading the article, “Michelle Obama: All kids should play sports, not just
For starters, the funding for high school sports is not distributed evenly. The football team gets several jerseys while other sports cannot even fund for one, instead being forced to reuse old ones, well past
