I would be grateful to be considered for one of your twenty TD scholarships for community leadership. Kindly allow me to introduce myself. I am a dedicated, hard-working student who believes it is important to commit oneself to effectively take advantage of the opportunity in improving my own community's quality of life by doing volunteer work. I am currently in my last year at Ajax high school, and upon my successful completion of this chapter in my life, I will be receiving a post-secondary education. My goal is to pursue a career in the field of education, specializing in special needs. This has been my passions from my early teen years; a passion, I believe, has stemmed from by brother’s autism diagnosis.
My community service is very diverse,

For the past two years, I have volunteered in a special needs classroom at Ajax high school. This experience has gone unmatched because I received real hands-on experience, creating lesson plans in the field of work that I plan to pursue. I enjoyed working with the various types of students who have been diagnosed with a variety of mental disabilities, ranging from 15 to 21 years old. This opportunity leads me to volunteer to presently tutor a seventh-grade child who has severe Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, in Math, English, and French. I greatly enjoy the experience because knowing that I am making a positive impact in a child’s life is extremely rewarding for me. Since tutoring was going so well, I was asked BY WHO to volunteer to tutor three students who were struggling in French last year. I am proud to say that all of them have improved greatly. I appreciated this opportunity because I assisted D students to B level and above. I truly love assisting children to reach their full potential. Correspondingly, I volunteered to assist a 7th grade ESL Chinese student who recently moved to Canada. I was instructed to assist him with his English three times a week, and the progression that he made from the beginning of the year to the end was not astounding. This experience exposed me into situations where communication would be a barrier, however, I embraced the challenge. I brought …show more content…
At Ajax high school, I have volunteered in various departments. This involvement has equipped me with a tremendous amount of leadership skills. I am a member of the general council. I also volunteered in assisting the drama department in last year's musical. Through this job I painted sets and helped make props for the actors to use. I enjoyed helping this department presenting this play because I see first hand how even the smallest tasks can elevate a simple school play to a dramatic masterpiece. My contribution brought me great joy. Alongside with assisting the musical, I have volunteered, to helping my school tech crew. I was also involved in a kindergarten graduation. Although I do not consider myself “Techy”, I felt it was important to get involved in my school, so I made myself available and surprised myself into what a contributed. It was a great success. In addition, I have volunteered I my school's after school program and helping with events that are held, for example, Grade 9 day. This was the first day of high school for those coming from junior school. We meet the new freshmen and make myself available to them if they or their parent needed assistance.
As I progress throughout life I know I will always be involved in community service because of the rewarding experiences. Not just because I think it is important, but because it is something I enjoy doing and look forward to. I love bringing joy to others and
I have been a part of different activities for my community service. I have helped the TLC preschool afterschool with cleaning tables and toys once all the children have gone home. I have also been to the shelly baird school where they disabled kids go for schooling and helped out there with the students doing their work and played games .I am currently in “Dude Be Nice Club” and recently we participated in project night night where we would gather donated security blankets a book or stuffed animal and deliver them to children who have very little in homeless shelters. My community service in this case helped me realize that there are people out there who need some encouragement to help them get back on their feet and realize in life that
Throughout my life I always thought the little things that we do to help people in our community are the things that made the biggest difference. I learned in church one day on a Sunday about how to improve ourselves to get closer to God. The pastor said that we are so busy with our daily activities that sometimes we get distracted on things that matter the most. Sometimes even though we might be busy, we should just take a brief moment to help others in need. That is why I find community service important because you are not just building our career we are also building our character as a leader and as a citizen.
In the changing business environment, leaders of all organisations may face unprecedented uncertainty, especially the technology advancement and changes among the employees. To survive and succeed, leaders should have some necessary attributes. Meanwhile, some changes for leadership skills have to be made to confront the challenges.
I do quite a vast amount of community service because I enjoy it. Last year I did some community service for the school bond, but also did tons of work for the North West Washington Fair, building and putting together the Small Animal Experience. The Small Animal Experience is place for families to see a variety of animals in a clean safe environment. Our goal last year was to make a better entrance and to make it more enjoyable for the visitors.
Ever since I started school, I had always wanted to be involved in the community in some way whether it be at school, home, or in my town. To help the benefit of others and learn more about responsibility, I try to volunteer as much as I can. I volunteer throughout the year for The National Wild Turkey Federation (which I became a committee member of), and for Feed My Starving Children. Volunteering for the Archery Club and different volleyball clinics are also activities I enjoy. Volunteering is a passion of mine because it is a way that I can help others and give back to my community.
Service in the school and community is an insight to your character and work ethic. I have over 20 hours of community service from many different experiences. Last summer I worked for Camp Barakel, a summer camp, in the kitchen. I assisted in serving food and cleaning. I learned discipline and teamwork through this valuable experience. Not only this I’ve worked with the Elderly in Rehabilitation centers and the patience and nurturing qualities is something that will forever be valuable in my life. Last but not least working as Big Sister or Buddy to a 4th grade girl has given me the chance to positively impact and influence her life as simply as having a friend is immense. All of these service opportunities as added to my character and prepared me for the responsibilities of
Throughout the past four years of high school, I have done my best to try and stay actively involved in the community. I have been presented with some amazing volunteer opportunities such as Huron Safety Town, STAR Leadership Camp, American Red Cross, and Huron High School Girl’s Basketball Biddy Program. I spent over 24 hours at Huron Safety Town where I was able to help young students, mainly those going into Kindergarten, learn how to stay safe while on the road. I was also able to spend over 24 hours at STAR Leadership Camp where I was a councilor to those going into the sixth grade. I made sure that each student understood the importance of being a leader in today's society and how important they are to Huron’s community. Through National Honor Society I have been able to maintain in constant contact, approximately 10 hours, with the American Red Cross by volunteering in monthly blood drives. I have also dedicated 16 hours of my time to those young girls interested in someday being a varsity basketball player through the Biddy Basketball Program.
I have been active in my community from an early age and I plan on doing the same as an adult. Community service, outside of being a requirement for the IB Diploma program, has been an interest of mine since I volunteered in elementary school as a translator for parents taking computer classes. This experience inspired me from an early age to pursue a lifestyle in which I can help others. I have demonstrated leadership in the community service activities I have been a part of. I have built character as a result of these actions.
From being active in my community I have learned that after giving, you receive the best feeling. My freshman year, my friends and I dressed up like Disney princesses and sang at the Women’s and Children’s Hospital in Columbia, Missouri. I have gone back two more times because I am in love with cheering people up. Since this experience, I have made it a mission to always continue to participate in community service. From meals-on-wheels, to adopt-a-spot trash clean up I am always ready to help out the community.
While I may not have completed much community service, I act out of genuine passion and self-interest rather than anything else. I see little reason to volunteer for a group or cause I have no interest in. However, I do enjoy helping others in subjects I quite enjoy like computer science and programming. The Harrington Park School STEM Camp gave me an opportunity to teach elementary school children about programming, an opportunity I would take again and will take again this winter. Tutoring volunteer work under the
In the past four years of my life, voluteer work has left an indelible mark on my heart and mind. When I became a voluteer, I had a very vague notion of leadership. As my high school days come to an end, I am left with the feeling that I have finally come into my own shoes, discovering the things that are important to me and those that are not. I have found my personal leadership style, and I now pay attention to the leaders I come across each day. For this reason, voluteering has been both an enlightening and inspiring experience, for I am surrounded by peers, mentors, and the voluteer program director, all of whom are leaders with creative visions of their own.
Actively participating in the betterment of my community is a trait that my family has instilled in me. It not only makes the lives of others better but makes me feel satisfied in providing them that service, that being said I try to help whenever I can and wish to continue doing so for the rest of my life.
During my sophomore year, the community service focus was helping to serve a marginalized community, so I chose to volunteer at an organization called Hope Services. They provide jobs for differently abled adults and an after-school program for differently abled kids, mostly adolescents. Each Friday, I assisted the program directors in making the kids feel comfortable and happy and like they had a friend. Whether it was helping get snacks, play basketball outside, make art projects, or play Just Dance, there were always laughs involved and it just felt like I was hanging out with my friends. However, when I first started volunteering, it was not this relaxed and did not come very easily. Many of the kids either had autism or Down’s syndrome along with some other disorders. It would be difficult to try and understand what they were saying at times, or they would be very clingy and have no sense of personal space. I did not mind this, but it took some getting used to. I learned that the best way to just be their friend was to truly listen to them, because they had so many great stories and ideas to tell,
My goals are to attend college and to continue to support issues such as women empowerment, which I have been actively supporting the past 4 years. I desire to major in informatics because I would like to go into a field that not many women go into and I desire to minor (or perhaps double major if possible) in business because the female to male ratio of leaders in the business are depressingly low for females in America today, despite the fact that women are just as capable as men in the workplace. I believe that the KPMG Future Leaders Program’s goal for developing future generations of women leaders is personally, my perfect opportunity. The scholarship provided in this program would help me go to the best college of my choice to receive
At the time of writing, I am involved in Student Council, Office helpers, morning announcements, Eco Club and Senior Band at my school. Outside of school, I am a swimmer, and am in RCM level 7 for piano. In the school, I frequently help out. such as with the grade sevens in music, who were new to their instruments. I also helped out at our school’s parent-teacher interviews last week by guiding them around to where they needed to
