It would be an understatement to say that I have been blessed to grow up in a neighborhood where I knew nothing bad would happen to me. It would be an understatement to say that I can go to bed knowing all the doors in the house are locked and my house is secure. It would be not be false to say that these things are given to me each day, but it would be an understatement to say I am thankful for each thing. An error is falling down your stairs because you did not turn a light on, but a mistake would be taking any of this security for granted. I know these things not because of what I have achieved in my life, but a result of my fathers job. He stands as the fire captain in Davenport, Iowa. Listening to some of the horror stories from his job, has widened my perspective on not only life, but in the small minor details surrounding everything. I can say I am more grateful for being able to have the understanding of safety, that if ever in a bad situation, I would step in to take risks and protect those around me. In today's society, crime is such a common thing and often occurs within small communities. I remember reading and learning about history and how communities would always be there to help one another. But today, community is such an overused word, and does not describe what one is at all. The foundation of a community revolves around the people who risk their lives day in and day out, to be there to protect us and get us out of harm's way.
The hardest times in life,
Civics is a Grade 10 course where students learn about our political system, how public decisions are made, and the entitled rights and responsibility for a citizen who legally belongs to a country. In a course like civics, students critically investigate local, national, and worldwide issues with a political perspective. One aspect of the curriculum is personal action on civic issues, by which means students are to analyze a civic issue and develop an action plan to address it. Through this, our class worked with an organization named DILA (A Day of Information for a Lifetime of Action), an organization that aims towards engaging youth in Ottawa by encouraging hands-on engagement in their communities, addressing civic issues that individuals are passionate towards, and to increase the importance of the democratic decision-making process. A DILA project main objective is to simply empower the young millennials, by giving them a chance to let their ideas, imagination, and voice shine.
Communities play an essential role in the development of the self and learning about the stranger. Through communities, individuals are able to socialize and gain a greater understanding of each other. A community can be defined in many different ways based on every individual’s experience with it. Developing a strong community takes time. Some people, like Jeannette Walls, do not have the opportunity to develop strong communities throughout their childhood.
A community is a place where people around supposed to be able to live and thrive together. When one thinks of a community, the image that most likely is visualized is one of a place where each person lives harmoniously with all the other members of that community. While this may be the typical image of a community, it is not the realistic view. In reality communities can share both good and bad aspects. In Place Matters: Metropolitics for the Twenty-First Century Peter Dreier, John Mollenkopf, and Todd Swanstrom make the argument that the place a person lives ultimately matters over all else; the place which a person lives effects the choices that that he/she makes and determines his/her ability to obtain a
First, community is our “home.” We have been living in a community ever since we were just little babies and it has always influenced us. Communities have played a big part in who we are today. We start off in school not knowing anyone or anything and as you get older you begin to think about the
Let me start off with an incident that happened a couple of years ago. A man attempted to break into our house by shattering our windows and doors. The man got caught but left a huge mess. Luckily, we had a good relationship with our neighbors; so, they repaired our damages and helped install a security system for us. After the incident, I realized how important it is to build strong communities. Communities take part in a vital role in every detail of our lives. A community can be massive or small, and we have communities through our neighborhoods, family, friends, and in many other places. Getting along with those nearby can be beneficial for everyone in the community. Building a strong community can create a more secure environment and together can create a stronger impact.
Reflect critically and individually on the experience of producing your presentation as a shared piece of work, and discuss the implications for collaborative working as an underpinning principle of health and social care policy. At its simplest concept, collaboration infers that people from different professional and academic backgrounds form a working relationship for the purpose of enhanced service provision. (Audrey, L. 2003). The SCIE (2013) suggest that because issues within health and social care can often be complicated and service users may have a multitude of needs, collaboration is extremely important in health and social care as it allows practitioners to share ideas and develop their knowledge.
The two units that I felt I could connect the most to were the mental health and the factors affecting wellbeing unit. I think I was able to connect the most to these units because some of the things that are talked about in the units applied to my life. In mental health and factors affecting wellbeing, we discussed the different factors that can affect our mental health. One example that we talked about was stress, and this is one reason why I was able to relate to the unit. I often have felt stressed therefore, I know the effects it has on our mental health. Another thing that we talked about was how our mental health is affected every day by little things, and, I agree with this statement because I too have experienced
There are all kind of feeling that are transpiring throughout my mind when think of the term cultural analysis. In executing the communication concepts of African American cultural, I found that the Chinese and African American cultural are strongly tied to their beliefs and family concepts. I define myself through my culture as being an African American male, thought out religions, education, and family is very essential in my culture. Also, being limited to making lifestyle changes, and the different ways we communicated with each other are how I define myself through my culture. Being African American my perception of my culture is that we as a community are high in health, crime, education, and public housing, which implies welfare, government assists, black on black crime, and drug abuse. Being an African American, other cultures have a better chance at getting better jobs, education, and opportunities in life.
In the US and in most countries, communities are more than just houses, departments, grocery stores and shops. Communities are formed by its civilians to facilitate their way of life and to also be a team instead of just single individuals. These communities are formed by the people living in that area and the values they share. Kekes (1993) defines values as ‘humanly caused benefits that human beings provide to others…’. Kekes and kane also states that they espouse values such as empowerment and caring , not just because they lead towards good or better society but also because they have merit on their own (kane, 1994: Kekes, 1993) CP, p54.
It is quite unfortunate that there is still a misconception that police alone can maintain and create safe communities. However, this is not true as police rely heavily on the information they get from the local community. Despite the formation of community policing and other numerous programs promoted by different police administration, there are still security challenges in the many communities around the United States (Ariel, Weinborn, & Sherman, 2016).
After discharging from the Navy I have worked in various areas but mostly in Community Work supporting those with youth and young adults who have mental health issues directly and various administration duties . I would like to proof read articles connected to The Young Diggers In the past I have performed similar role when I assisted in proof reading and copy editing while working in community organisations . The areas I focused on were ensuring that there was no punctuation or grammatical errors i.e. typos , the correct use of terminology or if there was missing phrases. I also assisted in checking the writing style and most importantly the overall readability of the articles . Interested in assisting in other areas if there is any need
I contacted the Pension Board, I was told that they needed a notification from HR before they could give me information about my annuity options. Therefore,
Communities have to ensure that their law and order systems are rightly in check and that victimization of crimes are immediately reported and communities participate in safety programs. In order to ensure safety in the community, the community members share the responsibility of law and order.
So far, I have nearly completed my first sub question and am writing the references and bibliography of it. Moreover, I have finished my source evaluation template for my question, which has helped me to know how effective my research sources are and how they had helped me to know more about my question. As my first sub question requires a lot of depth I think I will require more time on answering it. For now, to be honest, my management plan is not as effective as I thought as I am still stuck in my first sub question, which I was supposed to do 1 week earlier according to my management plan. I think I am using my time wisely as I continue to do research on my topic whenever I get time. But to complete my work in time, I will have to utilize
I was visiting the local church for a community event when I met potential participant I wanted to include in a focus group. The Del City Church of Christ host a weekly initiative called the Community Cup, which takes place every Tuesday morning from 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. The church provides free donuts, coffee, juice, and milk for the community as we harvest free fresh fruits and vegetable. I arrived at 7:30 a.m. on June 13th to have donuts with my grandchildren, after sitting for a while and observing the different individuals and families that came in and out I started walking around and greeting everyone. I introduced myself as a student at UCO, enrolled in a summer class called Linking Families and the Community. Of course, they commended me for sticking with it and I explained my assignment to them and asked if anyone would be interested in being a part of a focus group. Six of the guest agreed to meet with me the following week at 8:00 a.m. at Del City Church of Christ in a designated area; 2 of the 6 canceled when I called to confirm our appointment. On June 20th, I met Mandy White; age 18, Maribeth Snap; age 63, Mike Brown; age 43, and Juanita (no last name) approximately age 56.
