My most defining community service activity is my volunteer work at Kaiser Permanente. One time when I was escorting a disabled patient to the pharmacy, I chose to stay past my shift and take a detour to the cafeteria to help her purchase lunch as she did not have spare time throughout the day to eat. Being the only two people in the cafeteria, I wheeled her around, assisting her in ordering her food and carrying her meal. As she graciously thanked me for being patient with her, the expression on her face showed genuine appreciation for my action which filled me with satisfaction from my selfless deeds.

For my community service, I have been going to Lyndon B. Johnson Head Start Program, or LBJ. At LBJ, it is my responsibility to look after children and clean up after them. The teachers there set up many activities for the kids to work on, most of the time they finger paint. The teachers also set up small field trips. For example, we once went on a field trip to a house that had set up a pumpkin patch and many other activities for the kids. The house we went to wasn’t very far from LBJ. The children had so much fun choosing a pumpkin and playing different games, and I had fun helping them and taking care of them.

While volunteering at Discovery Challenger I have exclusively worked with a blind man named Geno. My service to the Discovery Challenger Program has positively affected the community in that the athletes that required a helper were able to have me as one despite the limited number of volunteers who helped the athletes. Another community service I committed myself to while in high school was the club Life is Delicious. Life is Delicious is a club that between two and three times Year members of the club cook a warm meal at the high school, and then some go to the St. Vincent DePaul Homeless Shelter in Waterbury. At the end of my sophomore year I was named Co-President of the club. As a member of the club I went to all of the cooking and serving activities and was able to help the homeless of Waterbury by giving them a warm meal. The most impactful service I performed in my opinion was during my junior year when I was the organizer for the Penguin Plunge. During my junior year I thought that it would be a good idea for the basketball team to do the Penguin Plunge in order to raise money for Special Olympics Connecticut as I had done so in the previous two years. Most notably I constructed my Eagle Scout project for the Parks and Rec., which is a library box that provides sustainable access of books for the finically challenged areas around one of their parks. I have done other miscellaneous volunteer work such as tutoring my football teammates, helped raise money at my church, and registered bikers for the assault on Mt. Mitchell charity race. All of the volunteer work gave me a higher physical and spiritual state of mind because I knew that what I did has positively impacted someone else’s life. While I may not have completed much community service, I act out of genuine passion and self-interest rather than anything else. I see little reason to volunteer for a group or cause I have no interest in. However, I do enjoy helping others in subjects I quite enjoy like computer science and programming. The Harrington Park School STEM Camp gave me an opportunity to teach elementary school children about programming, an opportunity I would take again and will take again this winter. I am a member of National Honor Society. We volunteer and help people in anyway we can. So far I have about 20 hrs of community service. I helped my teacher moved everything in his class during the summer. I helped an old woman raked leaves in her backyard. I volunteered to assist my high school's registration. I lend a hand to elementary school children and basically played and watched them. I assisted a youth wrestling tournament. There are many more services in which I hoped to help out.

Because of this I am often given the opportunity to give back and to serve others. One of my favorite parts of serving others is spending time with people and forming unique relationships. I have served in many ways through my school such as through key club, through the softball mentoring program, through the J-Term community service, through being a writing tutor for the English department, and through helping at the middle school track meet. I am fortunate to belong to a church that emphasizes serving others. I have been involved in many service projects through our youth program.

Service in the school and community is an insight to your character and work ethic. I have over 20 hours of community service from many different experiences. Last summer I worked for Camp Barakel, a summer camp, in the kitchen. I assisted in serving food and cleaning. I learned discipline and teamwork through this valuable experience. Not only this I’ve worked with the Elderly in Rehabilitation centers and the patience and nurturing qualities is something that will forever be valuable in my life. Last but not least working as Big Sister or Buddy to a 4th grade girl has given me the chance to positively impact and influence her life as simply as having a friend is immense. Cults can be religious, spiritual, or based on common interests. American cults have driven themselves into American culture; tearing apart families, towns, and driving people mad. The Mason Family cult, Heaven’s Gate, and The Peoples Temple are just a few of the horrific cults that have been stained this country over the past 50 years.

I mainly did these volunteer service hours during my time in high school and some others in grade school that I can’t quite remember. For my first three years in high school each student had to get a certain amount of service hours. For all three years I chose Merrimac Park for the location I would choose. It was close to me and I went there often. My first year I simply walked around the park and picked up all the trash I spotted. The second year I did this but then I also asked if they would let me help in the park house as well. They said yes so whenever I came I would sweep the floors of both the hallways and the gym. The third year I was once again looking to do a little more so I offered my services as a score board operator for the youth flag football league I had once been a part of at the park. I knew the person in charge of the athletic programs at the park so he agreed. I was even allowed to ref a few games because I know the basic rules having been in the league and also playing football myself in high school. I think that year was my favorite out of the three. I loved cleaning the park but adding on the role to help out the flag football league was a blast. It was something that at the time I was passionate about and had a close tie with. I volunteered at the Gonzales City volleyball clinic where I assisted the head coach by helping the young volleyball players learn how to set, serve, hit, and bump. I did this three times a week for three hours each day. The clinic consisted of children from ages 7-14 and each age group went in at different times. Also, I did community service at my local St. Theodore Church by helping in the jumping house at the church carnival. For the past four seasons I helped fundraise at the high school football games by selling food at the stadium snack bar. In every home football game I would stay for more than half of the game in the snack

I have been a part of different activities for my community service. I have helped the TLC preschool afterschool with cleaning tables and toys once all the children have gone home. I have also been to the shelly baird school where they disabled kids go for schooling and helped out there with the students doing their work and played games .I am currently in “Dude Be Nice Club” and recently we participated in project night night where we would gather donated security blankets a book or stuffed animal and deliver them to children who have very little in homeless shelters. I knew what helping the community looked like especially since I had to do community service to graduate high school. Most of my community service house came from going on a mission trip with my church to a different state. When on this trip we would build a church for a week, but the people that went on this trip were all people that I knew. The only people I didn’t know were the people that we would stay with.
