Practitioners always want to search for the best possible therapy to achieve the best care to patients. Also, therapists want to ensure possible way of treatment to achieve the most effective to patient care. One of the best approaches is an integrative medicine. The integrative medicine is a term that is used to explain a different method of treatment and care in the medical field. Everyone needs to understand that there is a different prospective between the alternative medicine, western medicine and integrative medicine. In my opinion, the integrative medicine is a combination therapy that consists of alternative medicine and Western medicine. The alternative medicine is the term of medical treatment that is used a different part of treatment than the standard care. In other hand, complementary medicine is the term of medical treatment that can use alongside with the alternative medicine. However, complementary medicine and alternative medicine is called CAM. According to Osher “Complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) is the name chosen by the National Institutes of Health. CAM is defined as the “broad range of healing philosophies, approaches, and therapies that mainstream Western (conventional) medicine does not commonly use, accept, study, understand, or make available.” CAM therapies may be used alone, as an alternative to conventional therapies, or in addition to conventional, mainstream medicine to treat conditions and promote well-being.” (Osher, 2012) The complementary medicine is a part of alternative medicine and the alternative medicine is a part of complementary medicine.
