There are no two diets that are the exact same and nor are there any two diets that work the same way for every person. There are a few common diets that people tend to consider and they are the USDA food patterns, DASH eating plan and the Mediterranean style eating pattern. While they are all a type of diet or lifestyle change they do share some common factors but on the other hand they do all have some differences. The end result for them all though is to help people live a healthier lifestyle. For example the USDA food patterns wants you to eat certain kinds of vegetables and grains whereas the DASH eating plan and the Mediterranean eating plan just wants you eating them. Another example is the USDA food pattern and the Mediterranean eating pattern are suggesting you have some oils in your diet where the DASH eating plan does not specifically suggest that. The USDA food pattern suggests meat, the Mediterranean eating pattern suggests consuming it less often and the DASH eating plan does not suggest it but the DASH eating plans focus is on potassium, calcium, magnesium and fiber influenced foods. First thing to consider is your own common sense. If you are hearing about a product and it sounds like it is to good to be true it most likely is. The headlines on a magazine are to grab your instant attention and make you want to buy the magazine and then read the article. Think about it though if you are reading something that says you can lose so much weight in a short period of time do you really think it will work? Is it safe for your body to lose weight to fast? The many truths behind “Low Fat Lies” had me looking at every miracle diet and their claims that were not based in fact. After reading this book I began to wonder if other people have had the same failures, and what contributed to these failures. Low-fat lies gave consistent information on fats and nutrients that are important to becoming healthy, as well as a give the reader a chance to get a second opinion.
Most people are aware of Nutrisystem from seeing it advertised on television commercials and in magazines. This diet advertises that the dieter can eat whatever they want and not only lose weight but be able to keep it off by eating a selection of their healthy, filling, and delicious food. How do we know these claims are true simply from seeing an ad? This is the question I intend to answer by evaluating the entire Nutrisystem program and all they have to offer.
